Clutch Issue

Long story short… I apparently burnt through a new clutch in 6 months. I am self taught “off YouTube”and personally I really don’t grind the gears too much. Maybe here and there but not too much. I am still double clutching even though I don’t need to because I have already passed the test. What am I doing wrong? I have no one to ask because I am the only one with a CDL at my job.

How much clutch are you using when going very slow? Do you tend to keep a little clutch engaged while trying to back up slowly or creep? Also if you do this and take many tries to back up grinding it while it’s hot.

You’d be hearing it. If nobody had ever told you the stick should be smooth no vibration no sound.
Were I to guess, you need to slow down a tic and do things by the numbers

You shouldn't be giving it gas until just before its engaging or disengaging actually, wherever ya feel the gear start to grab, the friction point. If youre gasing it before then unless the pedals completely depressed, youre going to burn the clutch. As your clutch foot is just about up your gas foot starts down and when your gas foot is just about up your clutch foot is starting down.

Use the clutch only for moving from a stop and coming to a stop. Double clutching will prematurely wear out the clutch.

FWIW, see if it needs an adjustment. Guy I know had his clutch replaced, then six months later he thought it was going out again.
The mechanic acted like it was common knowledge that they need to be adjusted a few months after replacing, but we'd never heard of that.
Long story short, have it checked for adjustment first.

Float your gears. The trick is to push on the shifter while you're still giving it gas. It won't shift until you let off of the gas. Your knees will thank you.

I mean, so long as you aren't forcing the gears into place, that shouldn't happen. Learn your ratios for every gear and speed, throw a post it up with each of the.

Most likely slipping the clutch while you're stopped and taking off
Hkerekes@reddit
use the clutch to get going and use low gear
do not use the throttle until you are off the clutch and moving
dont use the clutch to shift
dont rest your foot on the clutch ever

Float gears dude. Only push the clutch in to get moving from a stop.
