i saw that movie when i was 12. i am now 44. i still vividly remember the part where the guy is hiding under the table and the syrup is dripping off the side of the table and he has a flashback. do not recommend.
Quato815@reddit
His actual story of events was way more interesting than the film. After the aliens, he saw people on the craft too.

And possibly accidentally navigated the ship to another system.

Stephen Miller?

This movie messed me up. I had a serious fear of being abducted by aliens after seeing this. We lived in the country on a remote farm and you could see every star in the night sky. I was convinced they would take me from my bedroom window.
SizeableBlast666@reddit
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one. Great movie!
JaketheSnake319@reddit
Same! I especially was scared of getting abducted when I would visit my grandparents that lived in a creepy forest in New England.
Hntrbdnshog@reddit
We lived in ruralish suburbs in the 90s and I was still freaked out by aliens as a kid. This movie and Critters were shown to me too young.
abarthvader@reddit
Same, but near the woods. Add in a healthy dose of chronic sleep paralysis and some nights, I would stay up all night.
Phreequencee@reddit
I always thought it was an episode of Unsolved Mysteries, about Roswell that made me have the same experience as you. I just remember greys with big eyes, and I'd be up in the middle of the night thinking about it and freaking out.
VincentMac1984@reddit
I’m from Arizona, this movie was terrifying for me as a kid.
S_A_R_K@reddit
Same
princesscorncob@reddit
I had a fear of aliens before I saw this movie. Watching this movie made it so much worse.
I'm happy to know it was all bullshit but damn, this did a number on me.
Status-Speed-5956@reddit
Communion was scarier to me. And the art on the book.
khumprp@reddit
A sub teacher showed this to us in 7th grade, I was wrecked after.
The-Great-Mullein@reddit
I still occasionally think about this scene
grousewood-games@reddit
This, and the miniseries Intruders (1992). Lotta stressed out times trying to fall asleep.
Falchon@reddit
This and Jacob's Ladder are responsible for half of my nightmares
CherryCherry5@reddit
Me too. Lol I was terrified
OtherlandGirl@reddit
One of the few movies that freaked me out so badly I will never watch it again.
_6siXty6_@reddit
This is by far the scariest movie of all time.
skrivetiblod@reddit
I think you’re right. Over the years I’ve watched a lot of horror movies with insane creature effects and plenty of gore. But really nothing has left me feeling so helpless and nauseous as this movie, especially this scene. It almost acts as an analogy for other, more relatable traumas. Y’know, besides alien abduction of course. I wonder if that was the intent sometimes. I was wholly unprepared for the last 30 minutes of this movie when I saw it as a 14 yr old.
Specialist-Leek8645@reddit
Yeah I've seen a lot of horror movies too. The closest has been Longlegs. I cannot believe Nick Cage did that.
Specialist-Leek8645@reddit
I still think of these guys all the time. I don't think I've ever seen aliens or monsters in any movie that have been as unsettling and terrifying as they were. Pure horror through body language. More butcher than animal doctor.
tes_chaussettes@reddit
One of the only scary movies to ever genuinely traumatize me.
echochilde@reddit
I love that movie, but I still turn away at the needle scene.
Educational-Tie00@reddit
I ain’t watching this
AbbreviationsGlad833@reddit
Everyone mentions the telescopic eye needle probe but the earlier part where they show kids shoes and adult eye glasses all littered on the floor as they take him down the corridor of the space ship is also extremely unnerving.
johnvalley86@reddit
Screw you just for the thumbnail
PWBuffalo@reddit
I saw this at the dollar theater in my hometown when I was 12 and then had to ride my bike home alone in the dark.

For DECADES
Mogwai02@reddit
This scene wrecked me!
steveweber314@reddit
i dont remember being scared. i thought aliens were so cool it would be worth it. but the main thing i took away was it was "based on a true story" and obviously they couldn't say that if it wasn't true.
bgva@reddit
That trailer absolutely gave me the creeps. Had me scared to go out at night for a minute.
accountforcatsonly@reddit
This is straight up assault.
Buddyblue21@reddit
I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like to have watched this in theatre
Imaginary_Ad_9682@reddit
Oh yeah I saw this way too young on HBO
dewihafta@reddit
I was obsessed with this movie for awhile. When it came out, i was going through my “everything supernatural” phase. I even did a term paper in school about ghosts—it might have been the same year.
dunnkw@reddit
Anyone who wants to know what it’s like to receive LASIK Surgery, watch this.
ElectricPenguin6712@reddit
I was big into aliens when this came out so naturally, we rented it. Wowee. That goop they jammed in his mouth and plastic covering instantly made me gasp for air. I still haven't watched it again. It was as good movie but dang.
zenviking83@reddit
Had a fear of abduction before this movie and it definitely played on the horror angle. Shows on the subject matter like Sightings and Unsolved Mysteries did nothing but fuel my interest in aliens and UFOs though. Also, Travis Walton’s real story is way more fascinating than the movie.
Kumba42@reddit
I would not last long in a scene like this, because eventually, the aliens would get fed up with my constant stream of questions and just dump me off on some random back country road with all of my stuff.
Sarzek@reddit
Ditto.
DomFunf@reddit
Butt clenching fear as a kid. Big ol window next to the bed. Scared to look out of it at night. This and Signs put the fear of aliens in me for good
throwawayhbgtop81@reddit
I look the other way at this scene. This movie was terrifying
Robofetus-5000@reddit
this movie terrified me as a kid so bad
theBillions@reddit
I will never watch this scene again. Once was one too many times.
absentlyric@reddit
A friend had a birthday party for his 13th birthday and we all went to go see this movie as part of it, we were pretty quiet walking out, I think it's the only time I watched this movie.
AmbassadorCheap3956@reddit
Man I’m so glad Groot is the last of his species. Those guys suck.
Temporary_Cow_8486@reddit
Eew. Me too. Still remember it.
