I hope global push to talk is still a thing in 6.7.
_Sauer_@reddit
This is already supported in KDE via the global shortcuts portal. Apps need to implement it by registering configurable shortcuts via the portal's dbus interface. Its quite easy to do.
Discord hasn't of course. I still have to launch Discord as an X application and set KDE to allow apps running under XWayland to listen to any keypress so I can use PTT with a mouse button.

they coud so easily expose the same functionality on wayland where you manually register binds to pass through to specific applications too they just aren't chill like that
repulsive-kat@reddit
It's probably because that's an awful user experience and theres already a solution that app developers can use.
dnu-pdjdjdidndjs@reddit
how is it an awful user experience for something to work as opposed to not working
the_abortionat0r@reddit
Imagine telling little Billy to do all that shit instead of having devs use what's available.
dnu-pdjdjdidndjs@reddit
Yeah bro the average Linux user can't fucking Manually register a keybind But we got five million posts in here every day about how the Discord keybind doesn't work Can we be serious even just a little bit
repulsive-kat@reddit
Discord has the ability to implement this feature. They choose not to.
If this feature is really something you want and is as simple to implement as you think you could always do it.
dnu-pdjdjdidndjs@reddit
I have implemented it

In case it's helpful: I made a systemwide push-to-talk program that can work with Discord or any other program; it does need xremap to correctly detect both press & release of the chosen hotkey: https://github.com/mwolson/pttman
Ripdog@reddit
That doesn't look like PTT, but rather mic mute/unmute. For that, KDE has it built in, in the system key shortcut control panel. You just need to assign it a key combo, and it even shows a nice little OSD when you press it.
That's what I use, but both systems are useless if you need true PTT.
mike_olson@reddit
Thanks for the feedback. I decided to change the behavior of pttman so that it feels a bit more like first-class PTT: press/release aliases for mute-while-pressed, mute by default on start (and device connect/reconnect), and resists muting from other sources unless they go through the daemon with mute/unmute commands.
If you have some other mechanism that can trigger on key release (instead of just press - or are binding a modifier which KDE seems to allow key-release actions for), that could certainly be integrated with pttman in place of using xremap if the other benefits above are ever wanted.

What's push to talk in this context?
loewenheim@reddit
Your microphone only being active while you're pushing a button in a VOIP app like discord. People want that to work regardless of whether discord is the active app or not.

Thanks!

Bet their session management will include user's age verification.
the_abortionat0r@reddit
That's a thing that you think?
Fuck dude you need help.

Seeing the KDE team constantly cooking like an iron-chef with each release makes me feel a lot more resolved & in peace with each donation >.<

Wayland lacking a session management protocol was honestly one of the reasons I ended up ditching it.
Wasting time on opening all windows into the correct sizes, and virtual desktops, really just made it obvious why so many people like window managers.
haakon@reddit
The title is a bit ambiguous as Plasma 6.7 isn't "ready" quite yet. It's scheduled for release on 2026-06-16.
ilep@reddit
"a bit" - that is the usual stuff for phoronix..
Infinity-of-Thoughts@reddit
No, a lot of Linux users are apparently just illiterate.
The title says that Plasma 6.7 is ready with session management, not that Plasma 6.7 is about to release.
BujuArena@reddit
It is "ready with Wayland session management" though. That's what the title is saying.

marxist_redneck@reddit
So does Wayland session management mean that when I start the session the windows will remember their places?
klyith@reddit
yes if the application supports the session protocol as well
marxist_redneck@reddit
Awesome, thanks
