If you pre-game (or at least did in yout twenties) what was the usual amount of alcohol you and your buddies would drink during that?

Designated drivers please don't talk about yourselves
PsychoFaerie@reddit
That depends on what I have on hand/do we wanna pick up something to pregame with? or do we just wanna go hard at the bar?
I've pregamed with shots of whiskey... beers.. glasses of mead.. mixed cocktails.. and shots. the amount varies as well
Wolfie_Ecstasy@reddit
I'm in my early 30s and I'll still pregame about 6 shots. I don't drink nearly as often but I have a decent tolerance still.
I've noticed my friends do 2-4 usually
Foconomo@reddit
Two words: power hour
5hellback@reddit
At least three beers
GandalfTheShmexy@reddit
depends how early I'm leaving the house. If I'm getting dinner out then I might have 1 drink if any. If I leave I'd max out at 3 or 4 otherwise I'd get too sleepy to want to leave the house lol
AngleRelative4683@reddit
Each person gets a fifth of vodka which lasts the night
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
Fifth of a vodka bottle? What would be the volume of that?
sholt1142@reddit
Fifth of a gallon, about 750 ml. A pint is half that. Though hard liquor is rarely sold that way anymore, the slang stayed in many places.
meewwooww@reddit
5ths are incredibly common in the US. At least where I'm from. You either buy a 5th or half gallon (aka a "handle"). You can also buy pints of liquor in most places. The most common place to buy a pint would be a gas station though.
Pints would usually be bought by degenerates who are buying with the full intention of finishing it that day/night. At least, that's the only reason why I would ever buy a pint.
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
Here it usually comes in 700ml bottles. So quite comparable. Thanks for clearing that up.
Foreskin-Aficionado@reddit
Wait in Germany is it normal for a non-alcoholic to go through 700ml of vodka in one night?
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
Well it is not unheard of. Even though rarely people would drink an entire bottle of liquor and especially vodka through the night.
My Polish ass on the other does exactly that.
dontdoxmebro@reddit
It’s also an older term for 1/5th of a US gallon, but liquor has been on the metric system for a long time. Now it refers to a 750ml bottle. Liquor is typically sold in 750ml and 1.75L bottles. 1L bottles maybe available, but in some states those are only for bars and restaurants. Smaller bottles, like a 250ml flask or airline size 50ml bottles, are usually also available for popular brands, but are kept behind the counter to prevent shoplifting.
captainstormy@reddit
A fifth is the name of the size of the bottle. 750ml.
sholt1142@reddit
Actually, not true. A fifth bottle is actually 757ml, and was standard in the US until 1980, when we switched to ml and liters for distilled drinks.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_(unit)
captainstormy@reddit
Sure, but everyone including the liquor industry calls the 750ml bottle a fifth.
Foreskin-Aficionado@reddit
How are you alive
kartoffel_engr@reddit
Couple beers or some mixed drinks.
Our pre-games in college were usually grilling/smoking up some meats, having dinner and drinks, then hitting the bars.
AfterAllBeesYears@reddit
5-10 shots of 40% abv vodka (usually svedka) chased by redbull or monster energy drinks. The hangovers were awful
Beyonce-sBurnerAcct@reddit
A much I we could before we left
Frosty_Employment171@reddit
Four (4) cans or bottles of beer has always been my limit.
ucbiker@reddit
Idk maybe somewhere between 5-10 standard drinks? A friend and I used to polish off a bottle of whiskey every week.
Frosty_Employment171@reddit
Yikes. And today?
Appropriate-Food1757@reddit
Shit tons
poopybutt72@reddit
5-10
rdubmu@reddit
We call it pre-funk in Seattle
IHSV1855@reddit
We would usually do power hours or century clubs, so either 60 or 100 gulps of beer.
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
I am sorry, I didn't get the slang.
Traditional_Trust418@reddit
I used to like to pregame my alcohol with a little Mary Jane. But mixing the two started leading to being sick 100% of the time so now I just do one or the other
V-Right_In_2-V@reddit
A couple rounds of beer pong. Probably like 3-5 beers
Traditional_Entry183@reddit
I would get drunk while they pregamed then id go home sometimes. People went out too late.
overcatastrophe@reddit
Forget the pregame, our DD was often the drunkest person in the group! In hindsight those were not fun nights.
SonnySmilez@reddit
When I was in to such things I would typically get hammered as possible before going out to avoid spending money at the bar. But then I’m at the bar and drunk me is making decisions… money is meaningless…. And I’m questioning my life choices next day.
andmewithoutmytowel@reddit
Oh man. To pre-game was 2-6 drinks. Depended on where we were going, how expensive the drinks were there, and how sober we needed to be to navigate there.
_pamelab@reddit
Back in the day, we'd all share a bottle of something before going out. Didn't really matter what, but you'd drink however much you want before passing the bottle.
nowhereman136@reddit
Enough to get a buzz but not enough that we were noticeably drunk trying to get into a bar. This is different depending on the person, what they drink, what they ate, how much they plan to drink.
I would say usually around 2 or 3 beers was the safe number.
AdmiralMoonshine@reddit
4-6 beers, a bottle of wine, or like 3-4 shots back in my twenties. Now a beer while getting ready and a preemptive ibuprofen chased with a liquid IV.
kludge6730@reddit
Never “pre-gamed”. Also didn’t wait to head out til some ridiculous time like 9 or 10pm. Get off work, change, head out. Be imbibing by 7pm at latest. Stay out til bar closed. Hit Denny’s or IHOP. Then I guess “post-game” til medically impossible to stay awake any longer. Wake up. Go to work.
cool_weed_dad@reddit
As much as possible
Elixabef@reddit
One or two drinks. Just enough to get things started.
BoSKnight87@reddit
I personally tried not to get too drunk if I wanted to last the entire night lol I would have a few beers and be fine. A big part of my ritual was eating while pregaming so I would be good
Several_Celebration@reddit
Probably 8-10 drinks
Vandal_A@reddit
Like 2 beers I guess
Semirhage527@reddit
A few tequila shots. We had the habit of partying within walking distance of our dorms so no one drove
MetroBS@reddit
Probably more than we should
duabrs@reddit
Too much
captainstormy@reddit
I drank however much I had. But I'm a freak of nature. I'm a big dude and my whole family has a high tolerance.
Some buddies and I were on battlefield last night drinking until 3 am. I drank an entire fifth of Scotch. Sure I was tipsy when I went to bed but not too bad.
I get up at 7 am this morning and walked the dog feeling great.
So I always had to pregame pretty hard.
dangleicious13@reddit
I would rarely have more than 2 beers before going out. We slso never had a DD.
Working-Tomato8395@reddit
If my buddies and I were going out to the bar and had a DD or were within walking distance, I'd pregame with about a serving and a half of hard liquor, then just stick with beer for the rest of the night and would make sure to get a slice of mac and cheese pizza in my system, then alternate on water and beer between rounds.
Didn't have to deal with hangovers or feeling sick if I stuck to that pattern, but I could still enjoy a noticeable buzz.
Lopsided-Letter1353@reddit
I’m short (female) and all my friends are small too. We’re a 2 drinks before going out crew.

jackfaire@reddit
What about designated drinkers can we?
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
You can talk about your buddies for sure
Travelingonyx@reddit
Yes
Fellbestie007@reddit (OP)
I like this answer
NevermindWait@reddit
Eh we always pregamed and it was usually around 4-5 drinks and we just buy 1 drink each bar. Nowadays we just buy a 24 pack of beer and shoot the shit playing games.
Intrin_sick@reddit
Over 50 and it's usually about 4 drinks.
