As a Dutch person I love Albania and Albanian hospitality. You Greeks just have bad history due to the fall of Hoxha, which pushed many poor Albanians into Greece and caused a spike in crime as poverty and discrimination go hand in hand. Many Albanians even changed their name to Greek and tried to assimilate their Albanian identity away, because staying Albanian meant having no job and no food. Greeks are still looking down on Albanians which is a shame. Greek jobs still doesn't follow meritocracy.
I don’t know who that man is, but if you analyze the body language, you can tell he has nothing to do with being a "simp"; on the contrary, it’s clear there’s a connection between the two.
1 - Italy has long cultural and historical ties to Albania and vice versa (including some not so nice colonial past which both sides seem to forget in this lovey-dovey relationship of now)
2 - Italy was sort of their "american dream" during the dictatorship. Our TV and radio channels reached there from Puglia, and some people would slip through the cracks and get contraband in from the (back then) rich and developed Italy of the 70s/80s, describing it as a paradise.
3 - After that, their interest in everything italian remained, and the large amount of italian speakers from the colonial past and the radio meant that a lot of people grew up watching our media (for example, in the last 90s/early 2000s mediaset invested heavily into dubbing anime so there was a lot to watch for a kid in italian TV)
4 - When the borders opened, hundreds of thousands of albanians immigrated to Italy to find fortune (the most famous incident is the Vlora, where at the fall of the regime 20000 people commandeered a cargo ship and went to Bari, though they were mostly sent back iirc). Many did make some money, and then they brought back to Albania which allowed their families to live good lives comparatively, which encouraged more people to get on a boat to Bari.
5 - Italy has always courted (or sometimes, occupied) Albania to close the strait of Otranto and control the Adriatic. Having military bases on both sides of the sea is a logistical dream for the italian military.
6 - Albania wants into the EU, Italy was a founding member and is third in line so we sort of sponsor their bid
Idk what articles you read, but straits can not be closed by anyone. History no longer matter. Italy and Albania are natural allies, though. No other country is as amicable as Italy toward us in the region.
I dont mean now, I meant historically. Now it would just be for checking who gets in and out and have an easier time defending strategic ports up north like Trieste.
I also wouldn't exactly count on the "straits can not be closed by anyone" given the past couple of months lol.
Upon the occupation of Albania and the installation of a new government, the economies of Albania and Italy were merged by a customs union which resulted in the removal of most trade restrictions.[30] Through a tariff union, the Italian tariff system was put in place in Albania.[30] Due to the expected economic losses in Albania from the alteration in tariff policy, the Italian government provided Albania 15 million Albanian leks each year in compensation.[30] Italian customs laws were to apply in Albania and only Italy alone could conclude treaties with third parties.[30] Italian capital was allowed to dominate the Albanian economy.[30] As a result, Italian companies were allowed to hold monopolies in the exploitation of Albanian natural resources.[30] All petroleum resources in Albania went through Agip, Italy's state petroleum company.[31]
Albania followed Italy into war against Britain and France on 10 June 1940. Albania served as the base for the Italian invasion of Greece in October 1940, and Albanian troops participated in the Greek campaign, but they massively deserted the front line. The country's southern areas (including the cities of Gjirokastër and Korçë) were temporarily occupied by the Greek army during that campaign. In May 1941, after the Balkans campaign Blitzkrieg, Albania was enlarged by the annexation of Kosovo and parts of Montenegro and the Vardar Banovina, going a long way towards the realization of nationalistic claims for a "Greater Albania". Part of the western coast of Epirus which was called Chameria was not annexed, instead, it was put under the rule of an Albanian High Commissioner who exercised nominal control of it. When Italy left the Axis powers in September 1943 (Fall of the Fascist regime in Italy), Wehrmacht troops immediately occupied Albania in a short campaign, with relatively strong resistance.[32] They also occupied Italy.
It was more like a liberation of Albanian lands and fun fact the 1st Albanian school in Kosovo was opened during the “Occupation” not to mention the Jews that from 200 became 2000 even during “German occupation” and there are even official refusal of Albanian leaders to hand over the Jews
This comes from a Greek? Aren’t you guys screaming una rascia una fasca or whatever? He is just an idiot. avg albanian feels closer to greek tbh than italians.
Greeks do it too, larping as westerners. Just like Pakistanis and Bangladeshi larp as Indians, or Africans as African-Americans. It’s a common thing throughout the world, to the point there’s even “ethnic plastic surgery” in lots of Asian countries.
They don't 'larp' as Italians. While Albanians generally behave differently depending on region and religion, Italy has shaped Albanian culture more than any country. The Turks come second. Greece comes third because of a) us Northern Epirotes and b) Greece's influence over southern Albania in order to defend the interests of said Northern Epirotes. Go back to history and look at what the Romans did to the Ancient Illyrians and you will understand the cultural compatibility between Albanians and Italians.
Italy has shaped Albanian culture more than any country.
No, it hasn't. And neither is there an albanian-italian brotherhood as some try to claim.
It's about a smaller country trying to have a reference point in the west. We have much more similarity with other balkan people than with italians. It kind of reminds me how some balkan people try to appease the west by distancing themselves from their neighbors whereas we're all the same in the eyes of westerners. I get it though. We all want prestige.
Read my comment again. Or better yet, read History. The Romans conquered the Illyrians over the series of two Illyrian wars over the pretext of "piracy". When they conquered Illyrian lands, the Romans systematically erased most ancient Illyrian civilisational aspects and enforced their culture on them - to the extent that few written souces of Illyrians survive (which then feed into bullshit theories that Albanians came from the Caucasus etc etc). This is why the Albanian language has more than half its vocabulary with Latin origins (albeit "alla albanese" - most Latin words in Albanian survive in the way the pagan Illyrians would interpret the Latin words - for example, "aurum" is "ar"; "amicus" is "miq"; "cielum" became "qiell" etc), this is why Albanian grammar shares similarities with Latin grammar etc. Christianity and later Catholicism solidified these cultural similarities. Obviously, Albania fell to the Ottomans in the 15th century and since then Albanian culture has also had Turkish influence. But I don't think Albanians are seeking prestige as much as you would allude to - rather, I think that, over millennia, Albanian culture and civilisation has been romanised to the point of near-compatibility with Italy.
Thank you for telling me, an albanian, about the illyrians and how albanians adopted latin vocabulary. I was not aware of this illuminating piece of history. What other forbidden knowledge do you harbor, o greek oracle ?
I am not saying that Albanians appropriated Italian culture. I invite my fellow Greek to go back in time to see *how* the *Romans* shaped the Illyrians and their culture. There are historical reasons why Albanians and Italians have so many similarities. It's an organic result of a romanisation process, combined with a shared history, Catholisism and mutual interests.
That is a different approach. Everyone's an expert on Albanians these days. Catholicism has not played much of a role considering that northen Albania still had Kanun until 1960s, pagan tatoos and pagan engravenings in their gates, and masonry stones of their fort houses. Only 10% are catholics nowaydays and 5% in Kosovo.
Those who "act fully Greek" have simply integrated into Greek society to such an extent that they simply prefer Greece over Albania OR they believe that Greece is their home and not Albania. And to be honest, I understand either point quite well.
I do not fully understand it because it is special to Albanians in Greeks ,Albanians form a huge diaspora and everywhere they claim they are Albanians while in Greece they change their names they totally refute to associate themselves with Albanians ,it is kinda strange
Either they don't like their Albanian roots because their Albanian origin causes problems for them, or they actually prefer the country they grew up in, or their parents actively prohibit them from associating themselves with Albania, or a combination thereof. My mum is Greek who grew up in Himara and my dad is Albanian. My mother refuses to speak Albanian to me and tells me, flat out, that I am Greek so I can comfirm these idosyncrasies from experience. In Greece, many immigrant groups assimilate into Greek culture and get Greek names - not just Albanians, but also Russians, Armenians, Georgians, Bulgarians, Africans, Japanese, Indians etc etc. It's unique to Greece because Greece's cultural heritage in and of itself is unique.
“My mother refuses to speak to me in Albanian” why you think is that?Normal people would think is cool to speak another language
I believe is more hard push for assimilation rather than cultural heritage and that is due to the mix background the population has ,Arvanites and Arberesh are also another example ,the later group although being disconnected earlier still strongly identifies and claims Albanian origin while Arvanites completely deny it and I have heard some of them claim Arvanitika to be some kind of ancient Greek language, they make no sense
Lol. One time I was with my Albanian friend in London and an Italian said that Una razza thing to me, queue the Albanian guy getting all worked up saying you're not the same etc, that's untrue. Like he was jealous. I think some Albanians, maybe the Catholics, have a weird obsession with Italy but true some Greeks do also.
We never say una razza una faccia, that is an Italian thing with Greeks. Rama says random shit because he is high and thinks he has an english sense of humor.
The guy is clearly wrong ,no one wants to associate themselves with Italy but also saying avg albanian feels closer to greeks than italians is also wrong(it might be true but not many feel that way)
This is is my honest personal opinion as a Greek from years of personal experience. It’s multi factorial and relates simply to Albanians and how they revere Italian culture from a Greek perspective.
Albanians have an allure for Italian culture—the cars, the history, the food—same as the rest of the world. The expensiveness is a major thing there too—I know a lot of Albanians who like to flaunt wealth. Again, that’s the same as any other place in the world. Some people just like finer things and Italy has a lot of fine things.
There is intense racism around Albanians in several countries, especially in Greece where Albanians are in high migrant populations.
Italy flanks Albania the same way Greece does (on either end). Greece has a highly racial relationship with Albania where Italy does not (to the same extent). Greece’s attitude towards Albanians is: “there here to take our jobs.” Think US Fascism 2020-present.
If an Albanian speaks Italian in Greece, they can “pass” as a tourist, which Greeks LOVE. When this happens, an Albanian can slip under the radar in places like Greece.
Albanians collectively simp for Italy because they are treated like human beings by their neighbors in a way that Greece has not treated them ever.
You made it all up. Albanians do not like Italian cars for instance, we prefer German, Korean and Chinese lately, the reast is not even worth the read.
This is is my honest personal opinion as a albanian from years of personal experience. It’s multi factorial and relates simply to greeks and how they revere turk culture from a albanian perspective.

Italy is a major player in the EU, and greeks want out, though in my personal opinion it may lead to more poverty in greece as it has in albania
I mean, once again, I ain't into guys. But hum. From what I understand, the idea of being topped by a 2m old bearded, well groomed, strong and muscular guy is fairly attractive for those into guys.
I asked my Albanian friend about this she said: "he was being sarcastic, and people know."
I question it tbh, also she might be biased because someone from her family does business with him and have close a relationship.
It's a very masculine, friendly gesture towards a woman, to make her feel welcomed, comfortably and respected despite the enormous body difference. You have to be a very secure person to do that.
If the man had the same stature and the same body difference as Meloni and he still wouldn't have done it, it means there is either a bit of sexism or simp-ism in his gesture. Based on your explanation, at least.
Maybe he is smarter than the average illiterate and Botoxed Balkaner, and doesn't care about stupid people's topics like fashion or makeup or that kind of stuff.
As a tall person myself (and this dude towers over me) I’ve found outside the US it is difficult to find clothes that fit. Maybe that is the case with him as well. Then again you’d think a PM could afford a tailor.
She basically supports Benito Moussolini, the dictator Italy had in ww2. Even her political parts symbol is fascist.
Now about the actual actions she has taken it would be better to ask an Italian citizen but a fast Google search showed me stuff about immigrants and laws about more power in her hands.
If you re refering to euro scepticism etc , that was discussed before her election, I d suggest that anyone believing these is at least stupid. The economy runs by capitalist laws and these laws suggest that it's for Italy s best interest (to Italys big companies best interest to be more precise) that Italy remains in the EU.
Just something I've noticed the recent posts in this sub are from accounts who don't let you see their posts or their comments and never comment in their posts even if they try to do something that tries to instigate people
Imagine being from a country with top standards of living in Balkans, which is not as a high bar as Germany, but still. Yet, only to have such complexes regarding Albanians and Italians. This entertaining to see. This thread has been a blast.
It is just politicians pushing propaganda because of Italian companies in Albania. Same thing happens with Germany in Serbia. Basicly same map of influance from WW2. Huray neocolonialism!
It’s not really “simping,” it just looks that way without context.
Albania and Italy have been closely tied for over a century—Italy helped keep Albania from being split up in 1912–13 and has been one of its main partners ever since. That created a mix of influence, cooperation, and familiarity between the two.
As for Rama kneeling to Meloni —that’s just his personal, theatrical style. He’s known for doing expressive, sometimes over-the-top gestures as a kind of humor or symbolic respect.
So it’s less “submission” and more:
👉 long historical connection + friendly political relationship + one guy who likes dramatic gestures.
What do Arbereshe have to do with Rama bowing to Meloni. He spends most of his time in summits and clings to powerful politicians so that they overlook his corrupt practices at home.
My little 5yo, she is by far the most gorgeous politician humanity ever saw. Therefore no one would ever criticize her , even it’s known that she praised mussolini
I believe there are a lot of Albanian people in Italy as there are quite a few Italians living in Albania as well. Both countries and people have good relations.

Ujemegaz@reddit

itsdoctorx@reddit
Not my tall dork.
But in general, I see Albanians simping for Italy all the time so I put it into words.

Ujemegaz@reddit
Yes, she could.
blumonste@reddit
Albania, Macedonia (N), Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia should all join the EU together and soon.
Ujemegaz@reddit
Probably the integration will stop in Montenegro. Albania is the most optimistic scenario. The rest will probably take another century.
blumonste@reddit
If Yugoslavia existed as an unpartitioned federal country, it would already be in the EU. What makes Albania less fit as a member than Bulgaria?
usesidedoor@reddit
He wants Albania in the EU, so he wants to present himself as cooperative and likeable. That's for sure.
But also, it seems that he is genuinely just a chill dude who gets along with Meloni. They have know each other for a while now and get on well.

Another chill dude these days is Armenia's prime minister Pashinyan:

It's a very masculine, friendly gesture towards a woman, to make her feel welcomed, comfortably and respected despite the enormous body difference. You have to be a very secure person to do that.
Vitali_555M@reddit
If the man had the same stature and the same body difference as Meloni and he still wouldn't have done it, it means there is either a bit of sexism or simp-ism in his gesture. Based on your explanation, at least.

Ujemegaz@reddit

prsutjambon@reddit
tell me, which policy made by her is far right or fascist?
(zero, sadly or happily)
Drafter1991@reddit
She basically supports Benito Moussolini, the dictator Italy had in ww2. Even her political parts symbol is fascist.
Now about the actual actions she has taken it would be better to ask an Italian citizen but a fast Google search showed me stuff about immigrants and laws about more power in her hands.
If you re refering to euro scepticism etc , that was discussed before her election, I d suggest that anyone believing these is at least stupid. The economy runs by capitalist laws and these laws suggest that it's for Italy s best interest (to Italys big companies best interest to be more precise) that Italy remains in the EU.
