alkorisno@reddit
Its because rich EU citizens import stuff from Romania and Croatia which increases the prices for their citizens. Higher demand, brutallity of the free market.
esouvieiar@reddit
No, it's not that. Romania has nothing to export π€£π€£ it's because of the massive deficit, reached over decades of hardcore corruption and thievery from state officials. That's why Romania is there. This year they increased the taxes to try and cover the deficit, and you know how that works. Consumers pay the extra tax applied both to them and to the merchandiser who increases prices to cover up losses from increased taxes.
Majestic-Bell-7111@reddit
Bro, prices for everything are always at least 20% higher in Croatia than in germany, for consumer electronics you can bump that number up to at least 50%.
You can also expext to save at least 1000 euro if you buy a car in Germany as opposed to the same one in Croatia.
FearlessEffort506@reddit
Dude, on amazon.de I bought a phone from official store like 500 euros cheaper than stores in Croatia. I was like WTF, how? Now it's last years model, but Croatians stores aren't lowering price much.
helloofmynameispeter@reddit
No, it's because parliament and the ministers are so utterly incompetent and corrupt that it's not even funny.
If the free market was at fault, all of europe would have high inflation rates (the european market is very interdependent, so when one eu member is effected, the rest are as well)
This is down to poor local fiscal policy and anticonsumeristic practices.

For Romania the reason is an increase of almost every tax in order to raise money to cover a government deficient that was caused to increase state salaries and pensions.
At least, that's how it started. Now it's also about high energy costs.
Plus, governments love inflation: the state receives more money to pay the external debt. In 2026, 3% of Romania's GDP will be spent on paying interests on it's loans.

Idiotic minimum wage and pension increases over and over again in the past 4 years.
alkorisno@reddit
So your solutuon is to let people starve with below min wage and smaller pension, while companies keep increasing their prices and profit? If the system cant give people their living wages it is a bad system.
LMX7@reddit
Pensions are mostly the problem... pensioners eat up about 1/3 of the budget while having very little stake in terms of contributions towards the economy. Basically pensioners are benefiting from the younger population being kept in a lower remuneration bracket since taxes account for 40%+ of the gross income to which people have to add VAT and other taxes and excise duties, collected through end price by taxing companies. With less taxes, the pressure would be upped on companies and this will lead to even more price increases or mass pull out and fewer jobs. Another 1/3 of the buget is gobbled up by government employees, unfortunately it's not by healthcare and education like in most other countries but by civil servants, aka pencil pushers, mostly nepotists.
As for the private profits, that's the reason companies exist. If you make a company, you don't make it so that others live well and you go empty handed. You do it to thrive. That some companies make more, like for instance Banks, well, that's more to do with the way banks make money, ie. people borrow more and pay a hefty interest. Why they borrow? Because the state (in the interest of pensioners and civil servants) takes up 2/3 of their income through taxes. As you can (probably) see, it's a vicious circle.
Yes, some people, like pensioners should manage with less, since their past political decisions have lead to problems nowadays, it's not exactly fair for the younger ones to bare the burden, plus nobody goes hungry, there are those pensioner that never or very little contributed to the system but get a social welfare pension and supplements in time of hardship, for energy, food and so on. Is it perfect, no, but that's only so much the active population can bare.
And the same goes for many civil servants who don't need 10 monthly wage supplements on top of a well paid wage (median income is 10-20% higher than in the private sector) plus more holidays on top of the low working hours they put in, never mind that the inefficiency of civil workers if abysmal.

In cazul tau, ambele.
Ghinev@reddit
Damn.
Tara a intrat in faliment.

In Romania, the previous government has been running the highest deficit in the EU. They increased the public spending (mostly with state employees) by around 30% in 2 years. To put this into context, the deficit was higher than in 2020 or 2009. Add on top of this the high costs with energy and we have the highest inflation in the EU.
To add more context, my fathers pension increased from around 500 EUR to 900 EUR in 2024. He still did not vote for the government that has increased his pension.

In croatia inflation is due to structure of economy. In 90's our national traitors destroyed industry (danke deutschland). End now we need to import everything. Since we have fake competition among consumer goods sellers we need to pay whatever they demand. And ofcourse little bit of domestic greed on top of that. To support domestic industry it is expensive, but it is even more expensive to not have it. If we will have global recession due to recent global events, we will have "original" solution called "tightening the belt" which means : reducing or fixing sallaries all while prices increase, so that we can remain cheap workforce forever, our goverment and enterpreneurs are not capable for anything better, unfortunatelly for us
