Make a 7-cylinder you bastards.

Even inline sixes are rare, why make a inline seven?

Who said anything about it being in-line?

A radial engine would be awesome

Put it into a Golf, you cowards!

The reason they don't put it into the Golf R is because it would basically remove the one thing that makes the Audi RS product unique. I'm a bit surprised Porsche never put it in the base Macan rather than using the 2.0L EA888 from the Golf R/Audi S3.

They... They are putting the 5 into the upcoming 25th anniversary Golf R though? At least I thought so?

This has been a rumor for years and years. It would cost soooo much to certify for just a year it would be $80k USD plus I imagine. No way that's happening.

It’s a direct bolt-in swap with no additional fabrication needed. It’s strictly about keeping it within Audi.

It's just everything that goes into it for less than probably 500 cars. How does that engine interfere with the crash test rating? It now needs additional EPA testing. Etc etc. Engineering fixes cost tens of thousands of dollars just for a single year anniversary addition. It's why all of our special editions are just paint jobs and tunes from the factory.

They share the same chassis, just with different body panels. Plus the RS3 hatch already exists. I would assume it’d be cheaper to get all the regs cleared than it would if they were different chassis altogether. It’d still easily be a $70k+ car either way.

It still needs to be homologated for WLTP and would count against Volkswagen's fleet emissions.

>strictly about keeping it within Audi. It's in the Cupra Formentor VZ5.

Even more reason to put it in the Golf.

And no one is going to pay $80k for a Golf so they'd be undercutting the RS3.
