Watched Karate Kid Pt. 1 and 2 tonight

I'm listening to depeche mode and I'm on my second bottle of wine. Just finished watching Karate kid 1 and 2... damn... the ending of the first one used to bring me to tears when i was a kid... the part where Daniel does the crane kick and wins... this time i watched it--no tears but I did appreciate how johnny came and was a good sport immediately after getting kicked in the face. Overall, no deep philosophical thing to share... Komiko getting punched in the face and stuff was a little surreal in pt. 2... I mean why not just arrest this dude... anyway, great movies... Ralph, not so great acting but still a blast.

Because wine headaches suck. Most Advil is 200 mg but you can safely take 800 mg for strong pain.

no but for real, i was considering these movies and the powerful effect they had on me in my 80s youth and also realizing i want more “teaching” movies for kids these days, more wisdom being passed along, fewer phones and tech. wax on wax off forever yo.

I’ve always assumed Devon was cast to be related in some way to Hilary Swank’s character. But she never had the time (and/or interest) so it never happened. Saved me from having to watch Another Karate Kid, but I would have gladly after I saw what Cobra Kai did retroactively for Karate Kid 3.

Seriously, the stuff they do with the 3rd film is so great. I love how they keep it all as part of the world, like the bonsai plants that Daniel gives out at the car dealership. It’s so good.

[She had a twins](https://people.com/all-about-hilary-swank-twins-8584365) recently. She had a show that we were watching, Alaska Daily, that she was in and it only had one season. I think that her desire to be with her kids may have impacted her being involved with Cobra Kai because I’m pretty sure they reached out to her a bunch to try to get her on.

I've always enjoyed the Karate Kid movies for what they were, but with massive suspension of disbelief. I spent years studying the martial arts; cleaning up a bunch of cars for an old man isn't going to prepare you for a karate championship. Without actual experience sparring and competing, you'd be dropped in the first round like a sack of potatoes.
