I would highly recommend a Ruger Mark 3/4 or Browning buckmark. If there's any chance you may want to get a suppressor just make sure you get a threaded one or plan to get a volquartsen for it someday. Whether you stick to iron sights or get a dot for it, having a cheap 22 pistol to practice with is incredibly helpful.

I paid $350 for a mark 3 22/45 and she runs good on the right ammo with new mags. Have thought about picking up the buckmark camper UFX many times when it was on sale for $250 NEW, but that's only ever been the short un threaded barrel with no sight rail.

I run suppresors on my centerfire rifles and more than likely on my 9mm handguns but none of them have a threaded barrel. I don’t think I will drop any coin on a 22. If someone can give me an advantage on running one on a 22lr besides looking cool then maybe I might.

They are fun to shoot. I like it because I can shoot cheap ammo with it. I have a CZ 457 MTR that’s set up for competition and I have to shoot Match ammo and that’s much more expensive to shoot.

Then I would start on stockpiling ammo, then using that ammo to train. I know you said you have 1000 rounds for the AR, but that is like one good trip for most of us.

Both can be good but the 357 will also shoot 38 special so it has a bit more flexibility unless you go for the 45lc that can also shoot the 410 but the accuracy for the 410 is almost nonexistent
