If you worked and saved for that, hell yeah. The work ethic and dedication to stack that kind of money at such a young age is the flex. That's awesome. You should be proud of that.
Otherwise, getting the certificates at 18 is still unusual and you should be happy, but I would not be bandying that around as some sort of "flex" over people who didn't have a blank check and free time.
I wish I was in your shoes at 18! I was just a PPL working on instrument.

No

Sounds like you had well-off parents who could fund your flight training, and you didn't need to work any jobs for extra cash. In other words, lucky.
Happy for you. Not everyone is so fortunate or privileged.
Consistent_Owl_111@reddit
Lmao???? You don’t need to be neither lucky, privileged, nor fortunate with well off parents to achieve that so young. Just hella determined and disciplined. Speaking from personal experience it’s definitely possible without any financial assistance from parents while never working a job. Went to a smaller university where my tuition was pretty much free, applied for a lot of scholarships, and some loans (Which was barely 35-40k). and I still managed to get to CFI at only 19, so yeah it’s not luck.

Sounds like you got lucky, and maybe you just don't want to admit it.
Is it possible to get your CFI at the age you did without parental support or debt? Maybe. Is it likely? I'm doubtful.
Consistent_Owl_111@reddit
No one ever said it was without debt nor was it easy but it’s definitely possible and many others have done it as well. Sounds like you seem to think if you don’t struggle or work 3+ jobs to make it in this industry then you’re just lucky. wtv floats your boat boss man LMAO

I grew up in a small town in a rural state most consider fly-over country. I was admitted to a top-tier university with an incredible financial aid package, as my parents weren't able to contribute anything to my college education.
Did I work hard in high school to get admitted and get the financial aid package I got?
Was I exceptionally lucky to get admitted and get the financial aid I got? Also yes.

Not really but my regional airline hired an 18-year old with 250hrs who had his commercial multi engine instrument certificate in 2005.
When he and his class all had 1500hrs everyone except him upgraded to Captain. He had to wait 4 more years before he turned 23 to upgrade with over 6000 multi-turbine SIC.

Flexing daddy’s money isn’t that cool
zombiedog54@reddit
It was for me at the time. I flexed by making by making college date night a one hour flight to a beach restaurant. It worked more often than not.
usmcmech@reddit
Yes it can be.
OTOH, "flexing" how young you got your CMEL probably makes you a total jackass.
Slippery_when_RA@reddit
Yeah hearing stuff like that on the flight deck is an instant mic mute for the trip.

If you want to prove to everyone you have the richest parents sure

No
Philly514@reddit
If you paid for it, sure. Otherwise I’d probably keep it DL lol
Superninjahype@reddit
When you tell people you’re a pilot they probably assume that anyway? So no.
x4457@reddit
Nobody gives a shit except you and maybe your mom.
BChips71@reddit
Nobody cares. At all.
AustinRoseJohn@reddit
No, I was already a captain on the 747 at 18… Nice try tho
Random61504@reddit
I thought it would be a cool thing to brag about myself that I was a pilot, but nobody except my family seems to think it is all that cool, and the people who actually understand have way more experience than I do, but maybe you have people to flex to. I got no friends and my brother has almost as much flight time as I do, so I don't have much to flex on, not that I care to anyways.
us1549@reddit
Absolutely. I couldn't even drive when I was 18
EnriqueShockwave10@reddit
Maybe to other 18 year olds.
butler-247@reddit
Got my CFI when I was 18. I wouldn’t have called it a flex, but it was cool.
AccidentCommon208@reddit
I’d say yes. If I could go back in time and have commercial multi at 18 I’d probably be at delta or United rn.
Funkshow@reddit
You are only flexing on other nerd pilots. Nobody else cares except your momma, she'll be very proud.
