Schoolhouse Rocks

I was talking to my wife (born in ‘79) and she said 8 is always the magic number. I told her no 3 is the magic number then I started singing the song. She looked at me like I was crazy. So I showed her the video and she had never seen it. She thought it was a very good educational video. Afterwards I asked if she knows I’m Just a Bill, you know become everyone knows I’m Just a Bill. She didn’t. I showed her that one and she didn’t like it. So is it weird she doesn’t know Schoolhouse Rocks or was that not a thing for most of you?

7, man, that’s the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin on a branch, eatin lots of sunflowers on my uncle’s ranch.

I don’t recall ever watching schoolhouse rock except for a few exceptions of i’m just a bill probably in social studies.
therealpopkiller@reddit
I remember it airing in the early to mid 80s with Scooter and Mr. chips

I'm a few years younger but absolutely remember Schoolhouse Rock! -- both as a young kid and again as a teen when the "Schoolhouse Rock! Rocks" album came out. So many awesome covers.

how are the They Might Be Giants not on there??
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit (OP)
Wow Ween is on there too. Hell of an album.

Yeah, I regularly kick myself for all the times I held it in my hand at the record shop but never ended up bringing it to the cash register. It's definitely one of the ones I search for whenever I hit up a used CD bin.

Blind melon does a wicked cover of 3 is the magic number.
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit (OP)
For real? I love blind melon. Definitly gotta check this out.
-OccultOfPersonality@reddit
Get the album. It’s like peak 90s.
CatsEqualLife@reddit
That whole album is a banger! Mr Morton by Skee-Lo is my jam!
-OccultOfPersonality@reddit
See Mr. Morton is the subject of my sentence, and what the predicate says, he does.
CatsEqualLife@reddit
Mr. Morton Walks, Mr. Morton Talks, Mr. Morton Reads, Mr. Morton Loves

I remember it being on randomly on Saturday mornings. I also remember the Simpsons parodying it.
I'm with you, 3 is the magic number and remember I'm Just a Bill, interjections and conjunction junction.

She was sheltered.
I was born in '78 and have known all of them by heart for 40+ years.
AshDogBucket@reddit
I'm an 84 baby and did not have schoolhouse rock.
Munchkin531@reddit
Im '84 and I definitely remember watching Schoolhouse Rocks in 2nd and 3rd grade. 🎶 Conjunction junction what's your function? Music
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
I'm a '77 and I did not see much of it.
RoyalPuzzleheaded259@reddit (OP)
I was born in ‘80 and remember them just about every Saturday through the early ‘90s

One is the loneliest number.
rear_windows@reddit
Two can be as bad as one. It's the loneliest number since the number 1.

I mean... 3 is the magic number. Because somewhere in the ancient, mystic trinity, you get 3. The magic number.
And, yes, Schoolhouse Rocks was a big influence growing up ('81 here). Also, in the 90's there was a short revival of sorts, with some famous musicians of the day contributing versions of their favorite songs to a Schoolhouse Rocks covers CD.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit
I was born in 80. I can't say I saw it being very present. It came on randomly on saturdays on some channels. Even in the early 80s, i remember them seeming really old. I recall seeing them more at school. Thats where I saw the Bill on Capitol Hill, and Conjunction Junction.
Blackbird136@reddit
We watched some at school in the early 90s for sure.
LongtimeLurker916@reddit
New segments ended in 1985. Maybe reruns lasted beyond this, but my knowledge primarily comes from later things such as the famous Simpsons parody.
jamescockroft@reddit
I only saw I’m just a Bill as a 20something. Carter baby here, and we didn’t get a TV until I was 5 and my parents figured the other kids would be talking about tv shows and I needed to be culturally literate.
I never saw schoolhouse rocks in its original run.
TiEmEnTi@reddit
The only Schoolhouse Rocks I remember are Conjunction Junction, and the amendment one on The Simpsons
thagrrrl79@reddit
Also born in '79. Def watched loads of Schoolhouse Rock. Had the "Schoolhouse Rock Rocks!" CD. Was she perhaps raised on PBS or had severely limited access to TV? That's usually the case when folks don't know things like this.
3 is a magic number, Zero is a hero, and we all know that poor bill is still sitting on the steps of Capitol Hill.

Unpack Your Adjectives is my favorite. My wife and I still listen to them.
