Stuck between the 9070 XT, 5070 Ti and 5080

Prices:
• RX 9070 XT (700$)
• RTX 5070 Ti (900$)
• RTX 5080 (1200$)
Context:
I'm very much a quality > performance gamer, I mostly play story mode games, although I do play competitive games as well. The 9070 XT is the best fps per dollar, but I like the features offered by NVIDIA cards like RT and DLSS. Which one would you pick?
Several_Sweet_4298@reddit
Get the 9070 XT, overclock and undervolt it, you'll get performance close to the 5080 in raw performance. And the ray tracing performance for this generation of GPUs is great so don't worry about it
Powerful-Ad2869@reddit
Id go with the 5080 yes its a bad value gpu
But, the existence of the 9070XT makes the 5070ti look like a joke especially when its priced more than 200$+ in most countries
SgtJammer@reddit
What is your goal resolution and fps?
auobyss@reddit (OP)
1440p, 120fps ultra + DLSS Quality (or whatever the FSR alternative is)
SgtJammer@reddit
I would recommend 5070ti then if you are leaning towards nvidia. The 5080 is technically not worth the extra money but it would give you some very nice headroom. That part is up to you and your budget.
Rayquazy@reddit
He has headroom with the 5070ti already
Brutal007@reddit
Is the 5080 good for 4k? Or will it still require frame gen in a few years
Rayquazy@reddit
It’s great but even now it requires DLSS. Tbh only the 5090 is capable is running 4K native max settings.
Brutal007@reddit
Gotcha, I have a 9070xt that was a beast for a few months but been having issues with it only on Tarkov ( which is like 90% of my play time), considering just selling it and getting a 5070ti or 5080 cause tarkov really takes advantage of nvidia tech
Euphoric-Length-5893@reddit
How are you having issues with tarkov I can play at 60fps 4K on crimson desert with my 9070xt maxed out graphics
Brutal007@reddit
Driver timeouts, only on labs. Known issue that no one knows how to fix, some people say that down clock speed helps but I still get them
Euphoric-Length-5893@reddit
Oh fair enough , I haven’t had any issues with any games but I don’t play tarkov ,hopefully they fix that
Brutal007@reddit
Also tarkov is like the least optimized game of all time. There’s areas where I drop from 180 to 50 fps on a map
aragorn18@reddit
What's your CPU? Tarkov is often CPU bound.
Brutal007@reddit
9800x3d, it’s not performance related I get good frames, just crash on labs and I’m not the only one.
I just wants dlss for better AA, I feel like the game looks way better then TAA high.
But I just checked prices on a 5070 Ti, that ain’t happening, not when I’d be losing a ton of money on the 9070xt.
So hopefully Nikita finally adds fsr4 and then whatever is going on with the driver timeouts if labs gets solved
mengles68@reddit
I had similar issues with other games. Had to uninstall adrenaline app. Just install drivers only. The app is causing ctd's.
Brutal007@reddit
Okay got a question, is there a way to use in driver features without it? I’m assuming not? This might still be my best solution but I use a good bit of stuff in driver for tarkov
aragorn18@reddit
Fair enough. I just wanted to check.
Brutal007@reddit
Yep no problem
Chillguy_Chase11@reddit
If you sell it let me know. I’m in the gpu market atm and was looking at the same cards.
Brutal007@reddit
What do used gpu even go for? Like what percent of msrp
secretagentstv@reddit
It's only 15% faster than the 5070 Ti, 15% slower than the 4090. I would say that it isn't really a 4k card, I would expect a 4k native capable GPU to have 50% more VRAM for $1000-$1600.
If the 5090 is the best 4k GPU, the 5080 is half as good. To me that just screams 1440p GPU at a higher price point. People who buy the 5080 aren't prioritizing value or don't know/care it just not that much better. Or they want the fastest card under $2000. Understandable.
The 5080 is a bad product, but a good GPU for sure.
Bastiannine@reddit
It's weird how much more people expect now for a card to be considered a 4k card, like the 1080 ti was a 4k card almost a decade ago
secretagentstv@reddit
That is because modern games require significantly better hardware. The complaints about how hard it is to run new AAA/UE5/PS5 games are real.
Bastiannine@reddit
I think the bigger part is people are expecting 100 or 200fps+ now, where before a card getting even just 50 to 60 would be enough to be considered a 4k card.
secretagentstv@reddit
Yeah but I paid $700 to never have to look at 60 FPS again. That's why 1440p is the sweet spot. 1440p UW is the fancy stuff. 4k is a new GPU every 2 years to play with Pathtracing. With DLSS, you can get a 5060 Ti and set it to ultra performance with 2xFG and play w/e. Wild times for sure.
Bastiannine@reddit
I remember paying $700 just to get to 60fps
secretagentstv@reddit
It's not so bad nowa days.
Bastiannine@reddit
If he's going for 120fps then the 5070 has negative headroom depending on the game, there's a good number of games it doesn't even get over 100 fps even with dlss
Rayquazy@reddit
At 1440p? Ur giving numbers for 4K not 1440p.
Bastiannine@reddit
No I checked multiple reviews of the 5070ti, in a lot of games it doesn't hit 100 fps at 4k it doesn't even hit 60. Some examples star wars outlaws 84, stalker 2 88, ac shadows 66 those are all at 1440p with dlss set to quality
Rayquazy@reddit
So u are giving 4K numbers as a response to my claim about 1440p.
SgtJammer@reddit
This is true but nothing wrong with a little overkill if you like to skip generations!
nerdthatlift@reddit
Either 5070ti or 9070XT.
Do you care about DLSS and Ray Tracing?
Is price a major factor?
I have 9070XT and love it but budget is one of the major factor over DLSS. Otherwise, I would probably get 5070ti or 5080.
Merrick222@reddit
I have a 9800X3D and a 4080 and I can’t hit 120 FPS at 1440p DLSS quality with RT in most modern games.
RT will kill your FPS…
Mohnchichi@reddit
9070XT Owner here. 1440P 144Hz and 4K 60fps tv. Not a single issue with anything.
Avoided NVIDIA because of power connectors, highly recommend an AMD card with 8pin connectors.
MasterDroid97@reddit
Have had both Nvidia and AMD. Recently 4070ti and 5080 both with the big power cables. There is not really an issue here. I believe the meltings were blown out of proportion.
Fit_Substance7067@reddit
Get that path tracing if you like quality...5070 ti with MFG+DLSS.5 will do it
TetePepeF@reddit
i will always say go cheaper if you can, so the 9070, you will have better native performance and FSR isn’t as bad as people say it is, but if you really want frame gen or DLSS, then just buy the 5070
Responsible_Bat_6002@reddit
Unless you catch a really deep sale on a more performance based, or enthusiast based card I would NEVER pay 1200$ for any of the budget 5080s. Then again in this market you're lucky to find a good deal on any of that without going in person to a Micro Center.
Trust_8067@reddit
It doesn't matter. You're going to replace the PC in 5 years, and they're all going to run the same shit just as good for the next 5 years, with the same settings.
darkwai@reddit
9070 xt is what i'm running playing 1440 p max settings on pretty much everything.
I bet the 70ti could perform better with dlss but it's up to you if the $200 difference is worth that.
Jowersman@reddit
Shoot man I'm going for a 9070XT for 4k, but I don't plan on using ray tracing and I'm open to anything 60+ FPS. So if you're going 1440p you'll be set aside from maxing RT... that'll be for team green.
GreenWorld8549@reddit
If u like the nvidia features get the 5070ti 5080 isn’t worth it. The performance increase that is. Unless u play 4K only. 1440p all the cards u listed will do fine and then some
kennyveltre@reddit
I’d go for the 9070 XT and save hundreds of dollars. But that’s just me.
AceLamina@reddit
I would go for a 5070ti
Partly because that's what I'm about to get in about 2 weeks but I will definitely be using DLSS and possibly RTX in the future
rolandguy85@reddit
You’d want the 5070ti since you want good RT but if you have the money and the money isn’t an issue get the 5080. I have a 9070xt and love it but I’m not super worried about RT.
PixelPete27@reddit
For your use case, it's between the 5070ti and the 5080.
I'd do some quick googling, look at some performance comparison vids, and see if the 5080 pricetag is worth the performance jump to you.
psimwork@reddit
For what resolution?
auobyss@reddit (OP)
1440p
psimwork@reddit
Well I wouldn't go with the 5080. Me, I'd probably lean towards the 9700XT, being almost 25% the cost.
But if you really value the DLSS/RT performance and want the 5070 Ti, I can't really fault you, even if I don't value it.
TechnoGMNG589@reddit
5070ti, best of what you seem to want without going over the top.
Due_Permission4658@reddit
for 4k go for the 5080 if you want to use RT especially gonna need the most performoranxe you can get ,5070ti is enough for 1440p with RT imo i use it at the res and have no problem usually have to set DLSS to quality and get playable frame rates don’t know much about the 9070xt but if you want the nividia features so need point of it and nivida is still a bit better in terms of ray tracing
VersaceUpholstery@reddit
5070ti
Turn up everything to max and let MFG give you those juicy fake frames
Scholar_Rude@reddit
The 9070xt is a pretty good card and in raw raster puts up a good fight against the 5070ti however the feature set of 70ti make it such a better card IMO. The gap between the 70ti and the 80 is not worth the premium.
asha1985@reddit
I went with the 5080 about eight weeks ago simply for the added power and DLSS 5 in the future. I also mostly play single player story driven games and the occasional strategy game.
It wasnt the best value, but it is the best card.
Reasonable-Put5569@reddit
Id go for 9070xt fs. I won't see a noticeable difference in games even in 4k so yeah.
