Skywest cadet confirmation

For those of you wondering from my last Skywest post, just got confirmation from their team. All 61 and non-partner 141 bubbas not currently in the program, read before you try to apply. Blue skies.

Does SkyWest get anything from schools that are partners with them? I was lucky enough to join before the parameter change when I was a Student Pilot, but I never understood why they would make it exclusive to begin with… perks to being a cadet involve a guaranteed interview (they can still say no, no skin off their noses), and access to Zoom meeting prep workshops that have 60+ people on them anyway.
I just don’t see the point at restricting it.
Anon332563@reddit
Easy, theoretically higher quality candidates that will likely stay. With how low their restrictions were, a pulse and maybe a cert to get in, they likely had a lot of people wasting their time by getting in and not doing anything after taking up resources to check in and follow up later on. With these schools this allows them to A. Have less applicants to dig through and B. Having theoretically higher quality and more motivated applicants.
CavalierRigg@reddit
Honestly that makes the most sense, I didn’t think of it like that.

Maybe hiring slow downs still? Pilot shortage is over? Stuff going on in Iran right now? Who knows?
Emergency_Relation51@reddit
Are cadet programs really worth it though your basically selling your soul
Sweaty_Delivery_2750@reddit
There’s literally no downside to those programs. As long as you don’t take their stipend, or take it and not spend it, you can leave anytime you want. It only helps.
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
Honestly it’s a 50/50 at this point
Legal-Syllabub-1804@reddit
You apply, interview and spend a few minutes a month updating your credentials....for a CJO at many of these companies in worsening hiring times. Yes. Yes it is worth it

Not to put anyone down… but Sling? Really?
0621Hertz@reddit
Any beef about them? I never much about any of them besides ATP.
albal33@reddit
IFR training on an IFR flight plan but legally cannot enter IMC, summarizes the flight school pretty well imo
0621Hertz@reddit
Sounds like the nonsense rules that Acron (formally L3 Harris Flight School) implemented last year that’s a thread here.
csquiddy@reddit
It’s an airplane limitation, not a school policy.
The only reason they cannot be flown in actual IMC is that the ASTM Standards that LSA’s are designed to do not at this time have a standard for equipment for flight into IMC.
Mitter69er@reddit
I worked at sling, and the airplane factory for 2 years. I always flew into the clouds on an IFR flight plans. ATC doesn’t know or care if you can’t go into the clouds.
Status_Climate_6860@reddit
They went from unlimited checkride fails to 2. Only a matter of time till they make everything Lax again. Delta propel cadets now have to be a CFI and actively instructing. Before, all you needed was a PPL

Jesus
Status_Climate_6860@reddit
I guess welcome to aviation
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
… or something
x4457@reddit
That'll last right up until there's any meaningful competition in hiring at the regional level, then it will rapidly disappear.
Biker1124@reddit
For how big Skywest is, only 15 schools is kinda ridiculous but the market sucks so…
x4457@reddit
We've seen this movie before. It never lasts.
ReadyplayerParzival1@reddit
From what I’ve been hearing lots of riddle instructors are getting tbnts. Quality
Wanttobefreewc@reddit
Wow, never thought I learn something that makes me think higher of OO
Biker1124@reddit
Good to know being in my Commercial training rn
x4457@reddit
I don't know what the industry and hiring patterns will look like when you have 1500 hours, but I do 100%, absolutely positively, know that it will be different.
Better or worse, I couldn't tell ya.
Biker1124@reddit
Gonna be a while before I hit that mark anyway. Only at 130 rn and CFIs at my school get like 80 in the summer and 40 at best in the winter.
x4457@reddit
That's a normal to above normal pace.
roberto23410@reddit
I was wondering why my application got yeeted in <24hrs
Bowzy228@reddit
Honestly, if I’m attempting any of those partner schools there’s a high chance they have cadet programs where you actually get a CJO early on (Envoy, endeavor…)rather than a guaranteed interview with the possibility of a big fat TBNT after a 2-3 year commitment.
Japanisch_Doitsu@reddit
Yeah, but the other cadet programs aren't a sure thing. You still apply to everything and hope for the best.
Bowzy228@reddit
Yeah, but you find out very early on and make moves accordingly throughout training.
CavalierRigg@reddit
That’s what I was thinking, restricting the cadet program only makes sense if you’re going to actually invest in your cadets.. OO only guarantees an interview to try and get the job, and access to workshops which I admittedly enjoyed, but that’s it… there is no major investment in their cadets beyond a workshop a month, and however much they pay their interviewing captains to do the limit zoom interview-prep sessions.
Seako19@reddit
This feels so unfair. I am in the program and I am a student pilot. Qualified cfis with much more experience can’t get in but i can? Just because i am 141?
Chance_Box9742@reddit
It’s even worse. I spent the last two years networking with the OO people and they pulled my 141 school off the list of partners a week before I hit my 250 hrs to apply.
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
Rules of the game unfortunately
Chance_Box9742@reddit
I have been at a 142 University that has been a partner for the last 3 years. Finally hit my 250 hr mark to apply last week and got an auto TBNT. Apparently they dropped my school a couple days before I hit my minimums. At least I’m already a RJCadet but was pretty bummed as OO is my first choice.
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
Welcome to aviation or something
PipeInitial1576@reddit
thats wild, talked to a 777 pilot & he just said the cadet style programs are gonna be the new “thing” for regionals now. wild we went from a shortage to gatekeeping opportunities because of demand in a short span
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
Welcome to aviation or something I guess
Mad_Rooster_7164@reddit
Here's the text.
Flat-Row7968@reddit
I’m assuming all of us that aren’t in a partner school are fine to stay? I just got in it like two months ago, although I’ve heard it’s not worth much anyways.
bobnuthead@reddit
Yes. Anyone in the program already is unaffected, regardless of school.
asian_invasion1234@reddit (OP)
As far as I know, if you’ve been accepted already, you’re grandfathered in
