Want to clear some questions about the ebike

So I wanted to know how to keep the battery healthy.
When I go riding I usually just use the throttle go full speed, is this bad for the battery and If so how should I change so the battery life is extended.
Also how low should I let the bike discharge If I use it daily.
Im 92kg if that makes any difference
Alberta52@reddit
I have the same bike got it from Walmart unlocked speed control it hits 50kph now..for max range I ride in pas 1 or 2 very happy was only 5 hun Canadian

Charging to 100%, deep discharges (close to 0%) & fast charging (higher C-rate --> more heat --> speeds up degradation) will effect any lithium-ion battery life cycle most. Followed by temperature changes (high temp accelerate chemical degradation).
When you ride the ebike the load is being shared across all cells, so even an aggressive riding style (mainly throttle) has less of an impact.
Grok/Chatgpt would've answered all your questions in an instant, there is a very clear and basic chemistry behind the answers.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Sorry to dis you a bit but...
Ignore the downvotes, nerds hate Grok/Chatgpt comments but its true.
There is solid reasoning behind this attitude. With coding especially, ChatGPT is quite notorious for errors. For simple Python scripts, it's not too bad (errors are easily corrected). But with more complicated code, the errors can be a bitch to locate.
ChatGPT and other AI apps draw from information available on the internet; Information that can be erroneous at times. This is why it's advisable for a person to check various websites on their own and also read feedback regarding the information they locate.
Virtual_Club8510@reddit
You have to take into account Chatgpt has enough accuracy nowadays and this is a very well-studied topic. It's not rocket science.
It all comes down the chemistry and with that in mind you don't need anything else to get an understanding of what and why benefits your battery.
The downvote comes from internet culture.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Well, I still have to disagree. But I'm a stickler for accuracy 100% and I don't like having ANY errors that I can avoid. And efficiency can turn really bad from relatively minor errors.
wturber@reddit
If you want 100% accuracy you'll spend pretty much all of your time running down multiple sources and verifying their veracity. Most things in life simply are not knowable with 100% accuracy. Gotta learn to live with a degree of uncertainty and ambiguity.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Of course you are right. Most things do not require 100% accuracy. But 'some' things do require as close to 100% accuracy as possible. And taking the time to ensure this saves a lot of problems later. Many times, relying on AI for things that are not general knowledge where the AI does not have enough resources to draw from, can lead to unnecessary extra work later.
wturber@reddit
So. Sort of like your use of "100% accuracy". That wasn't actually a 100% accurate representation of your thinking and hence it wasted my time, yours and another guys. :\^)
As I said before the subject of the use of lithium batteries is covered from many sources because they are so widely used. So a question about charging and using them is an excellent candidate for an AI inquiry. Heck, the Brave Browser AI just gave me a pretty good summary on the use of long pimpled rubber in table tennis. If it can handle that niche of a question, lithium ion battery best practices should be a slam dunk.
Destroyer-Marauder@reddit
Seems to me all you guys are wasting everyone's time with this garbage. And really that's just what it is...garbage.
You all should know that opinions don't change no matter how much garbage is spewed.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Buddy, I thank you for the wakeup call. I realise I shouldn't have lowered myself to respond to this 'garbage' as you call it. It wasn't exactly the most mature action.
Virtual_Club8510@reddit
Finally someone who can think rationally.
I even tried pointing out the fact that of course you can just go "ChatGPT says this and that" 100% of the time. You can't do that on anything on the internet.
But combine the accuracy af AI today than 2-3 years ago, in combination with well-studied topics and basic questions about electronics and chemistry it is safe to say in the vast majority of cases it is "accurate enough".
The guy is just pure anti AI, as I suspected in my conversations back and forth. Either stuborness or something else. Believing there isn't enough for AI to draw a conclusion of when it comes to the very basic of battery chemistry..
Virtual_Club8510@reddit
If you are a stickler for accuracy you would agree. This is stubbornness.
You don't realize but you have the same mindset and talking points as people first had about Wikipedia.
Chatgpt after so many version and improvements can well enough answer basic questions and topic such as these. And just like with Wikipedia, everyone who has any bit or rationality can easily spot when there is something obviously wrong. We have already reached that point.
wturber@reddit
Wikipedia can be a good resource for many topics. But for other topics, it isn't so great. For instance, I wouldn't rely on it for info about any controversial public figure. AI resources are the same. A person needs to understand where they are strong and where they are weak and trust them appropriately. Most would be fine with this question about ebike batteries. I'd bet that even a low powered local AI would do fine.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
I do respect your opinion. I just don't agree with it. I guess we can agree to disagree.
And I do use ChatGPT for a lot of things; Just not things with exacting technical aspects.
Virtual_Club8510@reddit
There is no debate to be had, you can choose to believe it or not but it's still true. This boils down to one thing, excessively scepticism.
If you truly use ChatGPT for a lot of things then you would've realized that by now. It's most effective for technical aspects. The largest user base (2026) consists of Half of. If it wasn't accurate people (over 700M users) wouldn't use it. Or it would die out quickly.
Just like I said, doesn't matter if 99% of what I say is true. The magic word chatGPT is enough for people to downvote just for the sake of it. It can be irrational like you, or just doing it as a knee jerk reaction. 9 out of 10 times it's the latter, and that is just nerd behaviour simple as that.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
You saying something is true is still YOUR opinion. My opinion still differs.
Unfortunately this discussion is going nowhere. Neither of us are open to changing our opinions. And that is acceptable to me as I do respect other people's opinions.
Other people should also respect my opinion, which is not open to change.
Destroyer-Marauder@reddit
Yeah man, this response is the most intelligent one. Respect of others' opinions both ways is the mature way to handle it.
As for chatgpt, it's thrown me a few errors too. And some weren't so innocent either.
davids26640@reddit
Yea i used chat gpt to try to figure out which wire was for my tail light’s running light. And it swore up and down it was a specific wire and it was not.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
I see you got a reply from the 'pro ChatGPT' guy. Don't let him try and pin the blame on you. Most of us realise what's up and know the limitations of ChatGPT.
Virtual_Club8510@reddit

A random anecdote won't change it's perfectly fine enough to be used to ask basic science questions.
Virtual_Club8510@reddit
It's not "my opinion", it's reality. People use it nowadays for the technical aspects and has over 700M in user base because it works "well enough".
There is no changing those who are stubborn in nature. You have already made up your mind from the getgo, instead of being "wary of technical aspects" you just shut it down completely disregarding the progression. That's why I made the Wikipedia example before.
Have a nice weekend.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
Have a nice weekend yourself. And I honestly wish you the best even though we have a difference of opinion.
Main_Village2019@reddit
Agreed sometimes its just an automatic response almost, nobody bothers to read or take in anything after seeing those words.
Its like saying MAGA, just triggers people for some reason.
wturber@reddit
This isn't programming, but is general knowledge. Most advanced AIs are very likely to get it right.
TopRepulsive4766@reddit
I do use AIs for general knowledge regularly. And yes, they are reliable for this. It's where you get into very technical areas that any errors can be a problem.
wturber@reddit
Keep the battery between 80% and 20% charged. Pre-charge to 80% if you want it always ready to go. If you need a full charge, top it off right before you ride. If you deeply discharge, don't leave it that way long.
Yes, a rapid discharge will stain the battery more. But how close that is to the maximum drain for each cell is what matters. And we just don't have that info. So it's hard to say if that matters much in your situation or not.
In summary, Lithium Ion batteries don't prefer fast charging or fast discharging. Nor do they like being full charged or discharged for extended periods of time. Being mindful of these things can help you extend the life of your battery. I wouldn't lose sleep over any of it. But these things to factor in.
Main_Village2019@reddit
There is very little to worry about. Unbalanced cells are a much pressing and annoying issue when it comes to ebike batteries. And false ratings.
Just dont expose it to the elements too much or drop it.
jim914@reddit
Using the throttle only isn’t bad for the battery it just wastes the charge faster! I have a 36volt 20ah battery and I’m over 200 lbs ride 8.5 miles to work every day on a fully charged battery but I do pedal to get started and then apply my throttle not using pedal assist and I usually have sufficient battery charge for the return trip including stopping to buy groceries or pick up fast food. When I return home it’s at about 50-60 % so i recharge it and disconnect the charger as soon as it shows green. I’ve done this for over 5 years now and it’s always the same no drop in battery charge. The reason i pedal to start is a combination of conserving battery and the fact I’m always on city streets so if needed to stop quickly when starting out it’s not at full speed yet and less wear on brakes.
Hidden-Sky@reddit
Technically speaking, it would reduce the overall battery life expectancy - but only because you have to charge it more often, and thus end up using more charge cycles.
But you're right, the act of using throttle alone isn't inherently damaging to the battery.

MaxTrixLe@reddit
I’ve been 0-100% charging and discharging my batteries for tens of thousands of KM, and I barely notice any loss in range. There are obviously recommended practices but I don’t worry about them, especially when riding daily.
That’s a really small battery, so just use like you want until you upgrade

If not, you might search it up and get something more relevant. I would avoid using things like ChatGPT as they often are erroneous.
