It's all about the lack of scalp and edges for one. Two, the way the hair falls at her nape is unnatural and stiff. Three, the entire perimeter of her hairline follows the same pattern...stiff, lack of moment, no scalp showing anywhere, and an unnatural fall to the hair itself. Plus it just look wiggy...I can't explain it. Hahaha

Also there's no natural tapering to the thickness of the hair around the perimeter. It's all the same thickness, which is unnatural or at the least very uncommon.

Really? S4 might be my favorite. Adventures in the Sin Trade is literally cinematic, and Ides of March is one of the best episodes in the whole series. Not to mention great comedic episodes like In Sickness and Hell, compelling antagonists like Najara…. I’m a fan from start to finish.

Yeah, like you said I also love the beginning and ending of season 4. Everything else in between... India stuff... China? Stuff... I must have missed or zoned out on. But yeah, maybe the best opener and closer of the series. I haven't seen the show in 25+ years, so I'll have to devote time to season 4 if I ever do again.

I don’t remember Chin being a storyline in Season 4. Just 3 (which is the iconic Debt two-parter), and 5 (which is the infamously tacky rip-off of the Debt two-parter lol).

Thanks! Yeah, I think the guy Xena killed in Chen came back as a ghost or something in season 4 and they had to deal with it. Maybe that was five. I just remember four dealt with other mythologies -- shamanism, India Hinduism, etc.

I believe she said it was both for the character -- reflecting Gabs' maturity and changes, as well as personally wanting to be free of the muss and fuss of the longer hair. I recall Tapert joking about capitulating to Renee's long-standing pleas for the different look, which is why she wore the short wig at the start of S4 in the vision of their crucifixion. Overall, I got the distinct impression disappointed fans should blame Renee and not the chakram for the cuts to Gabs' "golden fleece."

Alti gave Gabrielle an adorable shoulder length bob with Xena’s chakram.

Gabrielle then cut it even shorter to mirror her hair in the vision as her way of saying “f&$@ you” to the vision. That is, basically denying that it is fated and deliberately trying to taunt fate / destiny / whatever.

In the original timeline, pre-vision, Gabrielle presumably cut it to mirror Najara! Which is a bold choice on her part 😆

In a general way, wigs are almost always thicker than a woman’s natural hair.

If you see a woman’s hairstyle vary on the show, and one hairstyle is thinner, the thicker one is the wig.

Also, not that it matters on this show, but older women on TV also wear a lot of wigs (or extensions). Women’s hair naturally thins as they get older. If you see an older woman with thick hair, chances are it’s not natural.

I hate to be a little cruel, but Gabrielle's first short hair look reminded me of the cast of "The Golden Girls" haha, I'd add about 30 years to her... luckily they styled it differently or I think this was a temporary wig before her real haircut, which looked fabulous on her.
