so many dead people

I mean, we all grew up with listening to a lot of dead people, but they died really young: Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin... even Kurt Cobain. Now the ones that hurt: Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Tom Petty, the Ramones, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie... and worst of all Adam Rauch. I mean come on, how can I not be upset when I hear "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!) or Sabotage?

Yes, I had him in mind after reading some of the comments. Our generation’s loss like Buddy Holly I think.
JimmyJohn_5150@reddit
Ozzy!
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
Yeah, Crazy Train does the same thing… but honestly he was living on borrowed time for a while I think.
JimmyJohn_5150@reddit
Totally. His last 30-40 years were borrowed.
itsmellslikefish@reddit
Every member of The Band is now gone.
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
Oh wow
Think-Football-2918@reddit
The two that jump to mind for me are Neil Peart and Chris Cornell.
OkPermission7769@reddit
George Michael 😥
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
His name is in my post.
SnowflakeSWorker@reddit
The first four you listed are part of the “27 Club”. Kind of wild if you look into it.
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
I have. Amy Wineberg, River Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Brittany… ugh I forgot her name, trying from memory and not from grok lol
Virtual_Mechanic2936@reddit
Murphy?
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
Yes!
Careless_Bar_5920@reddit
I thought you meant Peter Murphy and was suddenly very sad. Google corrected that worry. Whew!

Anton Yelchin 😢

David Bowie was the glue holding the moral and spiritual fiber of reality together. Everything went to shit after he passed.
R.I.P.
CptBronzeBalls@reddit
If a dude who was banging 14 year olds when he was 26 was holding our moral fiber together, we were fucked before he died.
5um-n3m0@reddit
Wow that's fucked up. I didn't know that.
CptBronzeBalls@reddit
Sorry. It’s probably best not to look too deeply into most 70s rock stars’ pasts.

Bob Weir death really was a kick in the teeth this year
hkusp45css@reddit
Biggest blow to me for a while, honestly.
Iko87iko@reddit
Right; Jer gone, horrible, but expected. Weir all in shape, we've got easy 5-10 years left for the full tribe to meet up & celebrate, and then, like that, its over...
CptBronzeBalls@reddit
I’m bracing myself for Tom Waits. I’m not ready.
FAx32@reddit
You go straight to hell! Shut yo mouth!
BarnacleGooseIsLoose@reddit
You should not say such things!
Rand_74@reddit
I am not ready for this one either.
TheNexxuvas@reddit
So, you are Waiting?
I'll see myself out.
Aggressive_Farmer399@reddit
Some of my fondest memories are fishing with my dad and brother, listening to Bob Uecker doing the call for my beloved Milwaukee Brewers. His death really hurt. I still remember listening to him in 1982 during their World Series run.
kcsews@reddit
John Bonham and Keith Moon. Wicked bummed I was just a few yrs too young to have seen them live.
PepperCat1019@reddit
Prince's death broke my 💜
Sudden_Office8710@reddit
It’s so funny because I hated that song I am so glad to hear that the Beastie Boys hated it just as much as I did for the same reasons I couldn’t stand it. When I hear someone they like that song I automatically think they not like us, they not like us.

Now over to Bob with sports.
limprichard@reddit
Kim Shattuck, although far from a household name, hit really hard for me. She was the main singer-songwriter for the Muffs.
UmbertoEcoTheDolphin@reddit
Yes. Love The Muffs.
ObiWanKnieval@reddit
Same here.
Ike_In_Rochester@reddit
We are all going to die. Every last one of us. That isn’t the worst thing that can happen. Think about the people who have died without ever having truly lived?
BarnacleGooseIsLoose@reddit
All those children that I sacrificed to Sade and Christina Applegate. They never had a chance.
_Losing_Generation_@reddit
Not a music guy, but Garrett Anderson from the CA Angels died the other day. He was one if the Angels stars back in the day and only 53. It really made me think if a top athlete can go that early, then I'm sitting on a time bomb. Not sure the cause of death, but it sounds like a heart attack. He was a religious guy his whole life and well respected by everyone.
BarnacleGooseIsLoose@reddit
I had the same thought when I heard he passed. He was three years younger than me.
Time to swap out the sleeping bag for a body bag. LOL
im_on_the_case@reddit
I'm more surprised by all the alive people who we would have thought would already have been dead by now:
Dick Van Dyke 100
Mel Brooks 99
David Attenborough 99
James Hong 97
Noam Chomskey 97
William Shatner 95
Barbara Eden 94
Willie Nelson 92
Frankie Valli 91
Keith Richards 203
The silent generation are doing a damn fine job of hanging in there, often in remarkably good health. Long may they last.
Ckn-bns-jns@reddit
Didn’t Keith Richard’s just celebrate his 204th?
Hilsam_Adent@reddit
I happened to meet James Hong at a restaurant when he was in his seventies... 25-ish years ago.
997Dan@reddit
How long did he make you wait for a table?

That Beastie Boys documentary was awesome to watch. Just 2 dudes, missing their friend and reminiscing about the awesome band they were all in.

Beastie Boys were one of the best live acts as well. I was fortunate to have caught them four times between Check Your Head and the 5 Boroughs.
Ok_Arachnid1089@reddit
Me too. I saw them at Red Rocks and was such a good show
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
For those reminding me of the reality of death… well sure I know everyone does. This post was about how it hits when something that has been a part of your life every day comes from someone who was here for a short time and then gone. I could have mentioned Mozart too.
heliskinki@reddit
“That’s right, my name’s Yauch”
It’s Adam Yauch, not “Rauch”
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
I swear that’s what I typed.
Historical_Project86@reddit
Yeah, Yauch hit hard. We've just lost a well-known DJ and TV personality in the UK, Andy Kershaw. He was the 80s for me, in his imported 501s and love of indie music.
dave-rooney-ca@reddit
See? That's why I love The Stones - Keith is gonna outlive us all! 😂
Decent_Direction316@reddit
If you wanna watch dead people all day, watch Buzzr. Every game host they show is dead.
Trolkarlen@reddit
Some died surprisingly young like Bert Convy. He was only 57 when he passed.
Decent_Direction316@reddit
Yea.....that one took me aback. And Ray Combs was young.
Trolkarlen@reddit
Comb’s life fell apart after Feud was canceled. He lost his home, his wife, and was crippled in a car accident. He ended up taking his own life at 40.
bzee77@reddit
Edward Van Halen

Right! That’s one I hear every day too. Man he lived longer than he should have given all the punishment he gave his body though.
hippiechick725@reddit
I’m still shocked that Ozzy outlived Richard Simmons!
mndsm79@reddit
And Keith Richards beat em all.
precious1of3@reddit (OP)
That shouldn’t surprise anyone

Ronnie James Dio...Ozzy...Cliff Burton....Chuck Schuldiner....

10 out of 10 people die of something. Buckle up.
Azipcoder@reddit
Not to be grim, but the whole point of recording music is to leave something behind. It’s a gift and I am happy we have the music.
Now, try not to think of the heat death of all life on the planet, or the sun’s eventual expansion into earth. You’re welcome.

And there will be many more to come in the next 10 years. It's going to be an onslaught of collective grief.
