nowaynoday@reddit
I support you, you weirdo. Enjoy.
Bugscrap@reddit
Is there a study that says seasoning removes muscle mass or something
wasting_time_n_life@reddit
I read that they avoid seasoning to make food as unpalatable as possible and thus less cravable. Eating is strictly fuel and macros, not for pleasure. Idk if that’s true, but it’s not a life I could live.
nazukeru@reddit
Yes, it is kind of true. I have a coworker who lost like 200lbs and I'm really proud of him for that, but also he freaks me out sometimes when he says things like "food is just fuel it shouldn't taste good" and it's like.. okay.. I get that you had disordered binge eating as a kid. But also brrrrother, please, don't turn it into the opposite eating disorder.
Yodzilla@reddit
Turns out the opposite of an eating disorder is just a different type of eating disorder.
MistakeEastern5414@reddit
how did bland food help? my fat ass would just buy a chocolate bar, or something tasty and completely ignore the bland food at home 😅
AppUnwrapper1@reddit
I think he’s already past that point.
nazukeru@reddit
He still has cheat days. He's young, early 20s to my late 30s. I've seen him eat real food. I'm hoping he's just riding the high of being thin for the first time in his life.
I'm fat as hell because I love good food, so I try not to judge lol.
BreadKnifeSeppuku@reddit
We've actually been secretly dosing you with Cipmezo
nazukeru@reddit
Please, do lol. I'm planning on seeing if I can get some if I can afford it. If everyone else can have magic weight loss drugs, why not me? I used to think I skipped the drug addict gene. Turns out I just picked a more palatable addiction (see what I did there? Eh? Hah.. no? Okay).
Western-Public7924@reddit
Nice joke brother. Helll yeah brotherr
BreadKnifeSeppuku@reddit
Oh no, Cipmezo makes you fat. I don't get it. Addiction isn't funny.
Jk good luck. Obesity/weight is a big factor in multiple diseases. Not going to go on a healthcare tangent
AppUnwrapper1@reddit
Weird for him to say that then. If he actually believed food shouldn’t taste good then he wouldn’t have cheat days and all that. Sounds annoying tbh.
nazukeru@reddit
Nah he's a good boy. I love him. I also tell myself weird lies to get through life. If it helps him progress in his life, who the hell am I to judge? I just worry about the incredibly tall babby sometimes.
Sheepherder-Optimal@reddit
He only weighed 250 pounds originally!
RadarSmith@reddit
I lost 110lbs since June last year and I didn't completely abandon flavor.
beepbop110@reddit
Congrats on the weight loss, that's huge!
I'm 25 lbs into my weight loss journey and the only reason I've been successful this time is because I'm making sustainable long term diet changes. OP might lose weight eating boiled chicken and undressed lettuce but only until they snap in a few weeks and start overeating delicious things to compensate. I used to try and deny myself certain foods ("No more pizza, pizza bad") but it's so much easier to stick to a diet if you let yourself responsibly eat what you want ("Instead of my usual 3 slices of pizza, I'll have one slice of pizza and some carrot and celery sticks to finish filling me up").
RadarSmith@reddit
It helps that I started as a heavy alcoholic haha. Its a lot easier losing 110lbs sober starting at 310 drunk. I also got really into exercise (that was partly for health, but a lot to do with keeping ny mind off of drinking.
I did admittedly do it faster than I'd reccomend to other people, but I ate whole, satisfying and tasty meals that I just managed with calorie counting. It was an easy adjustment back into maintenance. If I had to eat...this everyday I'd have caved pretty fast.
_Red_Knight_@reddit
Yeah, I've lost nearly 100lbs and I've actually added more spices and seasonings to make what (relatively) little I can eat better.
RadarSmith@reddit
I think the 'make is unappealing' strategy is a bad idea in the long run.
It just encourages people to give up.
MadamVoid@reddit
If food wasn’t meant to be tasty then why tastebud friendly
nazukeru@reddit
Which is exactly my problem lmao. I'm a chubby ass lady and could definitely use some of his restraint haha. Instead I will debone a suckling pig tomorrow and turn it into a porchetta and cook it on my grill 🥲🫣
MadamVoid@reddit
I’m actually eating trotter rn. About to suck these bones clean. My food absolutely needs to have flavor and that’s why I’m big backed 😌
nazukeru@reddit
I love you. We should be friends lmao. I'm a butcher so I just fall into free suckling pigs and shit. We did decide against deboning because that lil thang is 6lbs with the head on. So it's heavily salted and seasoned and in the fridge until the morning lol.
MadamVoid@reddit
My heart 🤝 your heart. Hell yes let’s be friends!
llgbauer@reddit
“Sex is just for procreating. No pleasure necessary.” The hell coworker. Get your crazy ass outta here
sgtpaintbrush@reddit
Exxxxccccept that it's been proven that smell and taste of food affects (don't know if this is the right one) how well it fuels your body. It why you don't want to be eating from an iv. ( this is directed at your co-worker not you).
Away-Living5278@reddit
Many people yo yo from one eating disorder to another. It's a sad reality
SnowflakeSWorker@reddit
I think it goes back to Jack Lalanne saying “if it tastes good, spit it out”, which is definitely how my parents raised us. I got smacked in the back of the head and made to spit out a Nutty Buddy a friend shared with me in the first grade. My mom was a cafeteria volunteer, and THAT was embarrassing.
the-big-meowski@reddit
Sounds like he found what works for him. He probably can recognize what "full" and "hunger" really feels like and not the dopamine chase binge eaters get tricked with.
ratafia4444@reddit
There's a middle ground between that. You know, eating nice food in reasonable amounts.
the-big-meowski@reddit
Ah yes, why didn't the addict with no off button think of that??
That's the same kind of advice people give depressed people: "just stop being sad! Duh!"
That's like telling an alcoholic it's "only one drink". Yeah, that IS a thing that people can do. Some people cannot control their urges.
That's great that you can do that. Keep doing that for yourself if that's what works for you.
ratafia4444@reddit
I assume I hit a nerve, hence overreaction? Thought about writing something long about how you completely misread my comment but I doubt it'll help. Nor do I have the energy to, as someone with clinical depression struggling with addiction, who has been told things you mentioned many times over. 😑 Stay safe and maybe hang around spaces that trigger you a little less.
nazukeru@reddit
I agree. Which is why I am still so proud of him! It's just freaky to hear someone say things like that in real life when I'm used to seeing it talked about in this sub lol.
I said in a prior comment that I used to gloat about not being a drug addict like my mom.. until I realized I'm fat for a reason. I just have a different sort of addiction.
Expontoridesagain@reddit
My uncle looks like a matchstick. His motto is "I eat to live, I don't live to eat."
TequieroVerde@reddit
That is so well put. I was thinking the same thing. If you have to remake the world in order not to be self-destructive, that is perfectly fine, so long as you don't drag the rest of humanity into your fantasy.
Mrmojorisincg@reddit
Unfortunately, I love cooking and I love food. When I need to lose weight I do that too. Blander food (not nearly this bad though) and I fast a LOT. The reason being is I try to reset myself into only eating when I’m really hungry and only eat enough to no longer be hungry. By not enjoying the food that much I cut my cravings and I’m able to portion food better and not over eat.
It’s like a refresh for me to remind myself that I eat because its needed.
wasting_time_n_life@reddit
There’s a fine line between pleasured eating and eating for pleasure and many of us can fall into the latter. Over indulging, eating out of boredom or as a self-comforting/self medicating experience. Maybe a food refresher is good to calibrate our body and tastebuds again.
Mrmojorisincg@reddit
I eat very healthy but I definitely over indulge and I especially live cheese. But yeah essentially a refresher for me. I don’t do it super often, but its a restart to remind me why I eat
CheesecakeEither8220@reddit
My youngest son (15) saw this post and your comment explaining the reasoning and he said, "Enjoyment of food is one thing that separates humans and animals. They are purposely consuming suboptimal food. One extreme is just as bad as the other. I have no patience with that kind of nonsense."
Mayion@reddit
Found Rebecca's reddit account
CheesecakeEither8220@reddit
Huh?
RevolutionaryTap394@reddit (OP)
What? People are animals. All animals enjoy their food
_Red_Knight_@reddit
I think there's a difference between "enjoyment" in the sense of satisfying an instinct and "enjoyment" in the sense of aesthetic appreciation. Non-human animals can do the former but not the latter.
RevolutionaryTap394@reddit (OP)
No. People are no different from other animals. Dogs or cats have no instinct to eat meat, they eat meat because it tastes good. People also eat meat because it tastes good
_Red_Knight_@reddit
Dogs and cats certainly have an instinct to eat meat, cats especially because they are obligate carnivores.
RevolutionaryTap394@reddit (OP)
Why do cats have an instinct to eat dry cat food?
Fresh_Passenger1033@reddit
Why do cats seem to stop eating dry food once they have a can of wet food? C’mon, man.
VisionAri_VA@reddit
They have an instinct to eat what is available to them. Biologically, however, they require meat in their diet, because animal protein contains the amino acid taurine.
By the way, dry cat food does contain animal protein. Probably less than it should, which is why cat kibble is typically fortified with taurine.
CheesecakeEither8220@reddit
Animals do not season their foods, or pair complementary flavors and textures together. They only see food as fuel. People, on the other hand, elevate the experience with added components besides simple nutrient need. Otherwise we would just eat nutritional bars and drink water after weaning.
IcyPossibility925@reddit
Is that always true though? I feel like there’s gotta be some animals that season their food (besides us). Like how pigs will decorate their homes with flowers or raccoons will wash their food.
taserparty@reddit
you can just say you thought it, it’s okay
CheesecakeEither8220@reddit
Why would I say I thought it, when he said it?
Sketch_Crush@reddit
I'm pretty sure some vitamins actually get absorbed by our bodies BETTER with fat.
Nezuraa@reddit
Most yes, but some just don't know how to cook as they picked up this hobby because of lifting.
Many also avoid eating overcomplicated dishes or dishes of different cultures as it fucks with their macros and may cause bloating, so the spices exit the chat on their own. Some spices are high in sodium => they retent water => bloating.
I lift myself, yet I would skip on second 2.0404948 if I were to eat bland ass chicken alongside a freaking leaf and a crying boiled water broccoli. Sadly, bodybuilding just makes some people move from one ED to another.
To each of their own, in the end.
CinemaDork@reddit
I just don't understand why it can't be both.
Oranges13@reddit
As someone who has constant food noise I would kinda die for that mindset...
As far as my mind and body are concerned,.food is everything BUT fuel. It's love, it's self hatred, its anxiety, it's stress.
I would GIVE ANYTHING for food to just be fuel...
doogles@reddit
Why not make the stuff you need for gains taste good? Oh, right. This is the pain olympics.
InevitabilityEngine@reddit
The rage it induces also causes you to flex more which helps maintain muscle mass.
As an added benefit, the extreme wincing you do from the awful smell of protein farts builds neck muscles that normally don't get attention.
Potential-Boss5599@reddit
Also steroid abusers avoid salt due to heart/blood complications from high sodium and natural lifters don’t know why this is done but copy blindly anyways.

Home-grown chicken meat is actually delicious on it's own to me, it has distinct soft flavor, that also infuses the broth. I cool the meat and use it's shreds for sandwiches. The only thing I sometimes add is whole peeled onion.
Mass production chicken is GAWK🤢. No matter how many spices you add, I can always feel it's weird smell and taste.
fuhjyfuhr@reddit
No, it is not true that seasoning removes muscle mass. In fact, many spices and herbs are encouraged for fitness, as they add flavor, antioxidants, and nutrients that help sustain a healthy diet without adding significant calories.

Google AI : Based on current scientific research, there is no reputable study that says general seasoning or spices remove muscle mass. In fact, research generally suggests the opposite: culinary spices and herbs are considered beneficial for muscle health, performance, and recovery.
ResearchGate +3 Here is a breakdown of what the research actually says: Spices Help Retain Muscle: Spices like turmeric (curcumin), garlic, ginger, and cinnamon have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help reduce muscle fatigue, decrease soreness (DOMS), and speed up recovery. Chili Protects Muscles: A study on older adults found that higher consumption of chilies was associated with a lower risk of sarcopenia(age-related muscle loss). Improved Protein Consumption: Adding spices to food increases the enjoyment and consumption of protein-rich meals, which helps maintain muscle mass, especially in older adults. Bodybuilding Context: Extreme bodybuilders sometimes avoid seasoning during the final 36–48 hours before a show to manipulate sodium and water levels for extreme definition, but this is a temporary, elite-level strategy, not a long-term muscle-loss issue.
ResearchGate +4 It is possible the idea you heard stems from extreme "clean eating" culture, where individuals avoid all seasoning to eliminate sodium (salt) to prevent water retention, or due to a misunderstanding of how certain herbs might impact hormone regulation. If you'd like to narrow down this information, I can: Tell you which specific spices help with muscle recovery. Compare the effect of salt vs. spices on muscle. Find information on spices and protein absorption. .

Yeah, maybe add some garlic and ginger to the stock that’s left and throw the spinach in there and have a soup on the side. (Volume eating)
The lettuce can be chopped and simply dressed with a lemon juice and a 1/2 teaspoon of good olive oil (8.33 extra calories) OR a green herb and yogurt dressing. (More calories added but tasty and good nutrition, sub Splenda for sugars when making dressing)
