Excessive drones in Plano

Genuinely not trying to stir any political bs.
Does anyone else have an issue with how much drone activity is happening in East Plano? They are so loud. Often times we see 4-5 in a 20 minute span while walking our neighborhood.
I sent a complaint to the City Secretary and plan to send it to Amazon and Walmart. Is there anyone else who finds issue in this? Could we do anything about it?
MilkmanResidue@reddit
I’m would be fine with the drones if they were required to travel main feeder roads for their routes until they reached their delivery point. Buzzing over quiet neighborhoods shouldn’t be allowed. Pretty creepy when you’re just chilling in your backyard and you hear the swarm of bees coming. I know Amazon doesn’t want to do this because it would increase their battery usage but I think that it is a fair compromise. Imagine how much noise the people who live in the neighborhood directly to the North and East of the facility hear all day long.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I read all of this when Richardson sent in their complaints. That’s the type of discourse I was hoping to have, honestly.
They mentioned going through feeder main roads would be an issue for the companies so going through neighborhoods provides less damage risk for the drones.
MilkmanResidue@reddit
An issue for what companies? I’m sure they came up with some bullshit reason. It’s for sure less efficient but people who live in those neighborhoods shouldn’t have to have constant buzzing in the air over their homes so that they can increase their profits. Everyone’s drive to work would be shorter and more efficient if we drove across private property to get there but we don’t do that.
IsopodApocalypse@reddit
Well, that's kind of the caveat. They are not driving through personal property, in the same way that you can't get upset at a helicopter passing overhead.
MilkmanResidue@reddit
A helicopter flying hundreds of feet over homes isn’t the issue. Amazon drones buzzing over neighborhoods at low altitudes is the issue. I fully expect there to be some regulation changes made for them to operate over homes.
Snobolski@reddit
Protest your property appraisal and use the drones as a reason your property has decreased in value.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
This is a big reason why I have a problem with it. If this excessive activity is just the start, then I’m not looking forward to what it looks like in the future.

That's brilliant!
nxs_sss@reddit
Eventually they'll be everywhere so won't matter what area you're in. I personally think they kind of cool. Even though they probably spying on me
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Amazon “promises” they aren’t doing facial recognition or surveillance. But Amazon also promised they wouldn’t share our data once upon a time.
They have a place where you can put your address and it blurs your home anytime it flies over, apparently.
Jedi_Hog@reddit
Do you have that place?
Snobolski@reddit
They’re almost definitely storing images of every property they fly over.
Mang9@reddit
One would need evidence for it to influence land value. I checked and registered drones like Amazon broadcast “Remote ID” and detectors are available. Automated collecting of drone overflights would be interesting for a busy area.
Mang9@reddit
You would need evidence, such as a log, recordings of sound or video with date and time, etc
EqualIllustrious9633@reddit
What would happen if u shot it down with an air soft gun ?
Snobolski@reddit
/u/Adventurous-Law-4081 you wanna weigh in here?
Adventurous-Law-4081@reddit
Hey Karen, good to hear from you again. Like I said before drones are a cool way to deliver packages. Thanks for finding another thread for me.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Lame. Lame lame lame.
TheDutchTexan@reddit
I hope more of them crash so they’ll stop allowing them.
tractorcrusher@reddit
Drones are awesome though? Better than beater ass cars with no mufflers delivering people’s last minute Amazon shit
OutbytheRoot@reddit
Drones aren't going to decrease delivery traffic, they can only carry so much, unless they get larger and louder. These drones are annoying to a lot of people and they just add to the noise pollution and visual clutter in our neighborhoods.
AssignmentSecret@reddit
I was buying groceries at Kroger and a drone just whizzed by my head… it’s getting out of hand.
OutbytheRoot@reddit
Yes, it is. They are annoying. https://quietskiestx.org
FelixMumuHex@reddit
Deal with the speeders and loud ass cars first
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
That’s totally irrelevant to what this thread is about. We could get ahead of what’s to come with drone activity in our area. This is just the beginning - what’s this look like in a year?
Your comment has no substance here.
FelixMumuHex@reddit
speeders
OutbytheRoot@reddit
Yes, the are loud and annoying. I want to be able to relax in my yard and in my neighborhood. It's not right for our peace and enjoyment to be taken away from us. https://quietskiestx.org
tested75023@reddit
Drone delivery is new and expensive. If enough people pay the $$ for drone delivery, it will stay. If not, it will stop.
Give it time. I suspect you may find it simply doesn't make financial sense in the long run and it will stop.
OutbytheRoot@reddit
This is what I'm hoping for.
dallasdude@reddit
I think there should be a statewide ban on these things.
They are big, very loud, and really disruptive, and frankly I don't think we want to live in a world where these things are flying around all over the place.
It is a direct quality of life issue, and the convenience of a drone delivery does not outweigh the adverse impacts to the general public.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
I’m with you on this one.
OutbytheRoot@reddit

dallasdude@reddit
I would have been okay in theory, but I saw one out the window of an office building. It was huge, way bigger than I expected. I think people can deal with a quiet cooler sized robot puttering down a sidewalk, but a drone the size of a small car that is as loud as a hundred gas leaf blowers cleaners is entirely another thing.
And maybe it is tin foil hat, but after what we all have seen in Ukraine I don't think we want to get culturally comfortable with these things flying around all the time.
We also don't know what these companies' full intentions are - what sensors are on those things, or could be, and what rules would prevent them from using these as giant flying data collectors.
OutbytheRoot@reddit
Yes, it is a quality of life issue, and the right to quiet enjoyment of our homes. We should not have to be put out by these transactions we have nothing to do with.
https://quietskiestx.org
MieXuL@reddit
That and its an invasion of privacy.
envied-ivie@reddit
I keep seeing Amazon ones that fly right over my home. It's invasive, annoying, and I know they aren't paying me for the data they're collecting on my property.
I love the wildlife around my house, but ever since these drones have started flying over us, the birds avoid us.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
THE BIRDS!!
envied-ivie@reddit
I know. I miss my crow friends
OutbytheRoot@reddit
I'm worried about the wildlife too, as well as my sanity. https://quietskiestx.org
stewartdesign1@reddit
The Amazon facility near George Bush and Breckinridge in Plano has been approved for up to 1,000 drone flights a day. They are currently at about 250 a day. So expect it to get significantly more disruptive than it already is. The big issue for me is that they have been flying lower than 250 feet on a regular basis, and it is very audible. I can hear them even in my house with the TV on, because of the high pitched frequency, like a mosquito. I absolutely don’t want to live under a drone freeway.
OutbytheRoot@reddit
I don't want that either. https://quietskiestx.org
OutbytheRoot@reddit
Yes, there are a lot of other people taking issue with the delivery drones. I find it very annoying, and I had one hovering about 2-3 ft above my fence line a few months ago, in the center of my backyard. It was really loud, and I could hear it inside my house. It stirred up my dog as well. When I'm outside trying to relax, drones fly overhead, which pulls me out of my peaceful state and irritates the crap out of me. Here is a website I found: https://quietskiestx.org
I don't want a highway of delivery drones over my head. It creates so much noise pollution and visual clutter.
Poyraz1923@reddit
i personally don’t give a flying fuck about drones living in east plano but i don’t think you can do anything about it without stirring up political bs tbh they are not even that loud
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Ew
dageekywon@reddit
The way Texans are about low flying things over their property, it'll be interesting to see if drones are profitable.
Because you know what some of them do when they come near their air space.
Cloudy_Automation@reddit
If they are in a city of over 100,000 population, they can be fined up to $4000, and serve up to a year in jail. And that's just at the state level. Firing at an aircraft in the air is a federal violation.
Mang9@reddit
Show me one story seems mythical

Iranian kamikaze drones? Should we take cover? Go on the offensive?
DrunkenDude123@reddit
Honestly we have frequent activity in my Lewisville neighborhood (right next to Walmart). Idk about the Amazon drones but the zipline ones Walmart uses aren’t much of a nuisance imo. They’re quiet enough that you only hear them when they’re above you for all of 10 seconds and you can’t hear them at all while indoors. I think this may be one of those things that the more you focus solely on it the more it’s gonna frustrate you
trippbo@reddit
I feel the same way as you about the noise. They’re no more of a nuisance than the stream of delivery trucks rumbling up and down the street.
The real question is do you want the sky filled with them? Right now this is just a small test going on. But the plan of these companies is to eventually have 10x or 20x as many flying everywhere.
BelgraviaEngineer@reddit
I’m more concerned about loud cars/motorcycles revving
Snobolski@reddit
Loud vehicles aren't collecting imagery of everything along their flight path.
trippbo@reddit
What imagery are they collecting? Next thing you’re going to tell me is satellites and helicopters take imagery from above all the time.
BelgraviaEngineer@reddit
What about the imagery that comes in my head when they wake me up?
TRON700@reddit
Especially at 3am LoL

My wife submitted a complaint with the FAA and they were very sympathetic to the residents having their enjoyment of peace being disturbed by the surge of Amazon drones.
Here is the email we got from the FAA in how to take action:
“We are in receipt of your complaint concerning Amazon drone noise. I have been assigned to investigate this complaint
Here are the links for (1) reporting noise complaints and (2) actions you can take.
The first link is to report the noise complaint; you may send as many complaints as you wish. If a drone is flying over your property and if you consider it a nuisance, then submit the complaint via this link. There is no limit, so report as much or as little as you deem appropriate.
ANCIR - Catalog Item - Aviation Noise Complaint and Inquiry Response
The second link, amazondronefeedback@amazon.com, is for contacting Amazon directly and let them know your feelings and concerns.
Sincerely,
Principal Operations Inspector
Emerging Technologies Division
Safety Assurance Branch, AFS-760”
Embarrassed-Leg1062@reddit
I see them all the time! They are not as loud as you are exaggerating. I barely hear them. You must have been hearing.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Oh, my bad. I forgot not everyone has the same hearing sensitivity.
No-Celebration3097@reddit
Sure, go ahead and ask billion dollar corporations to stop using drone deliveries.
elictronic@reddit
Push for changes to local ordinance. Systems get removed. It doesn’t matter if they have a billion or 20 bucks. Local political action still has very strong effects.
DowntownComposer2517@reddit
Unfortunately local officials cannot control air space in Texas.
elictronic@reddit
And if those drones were flying more than the last mile that might matter. We approved their landing spots as commercial sites. We can remove them as well if that is what’s desired.
Pass a tax on drone delivery having 20 dollar per delivery fee. There are dozens of ways to remove them they have zero impact on FAA regulations.
MilkmanResidue@reddit
Maybe not yet. It’s a very new problem. With the promise of flying passenger service coming I’m sure there will be some legislation around all of this. You can’t have the Wild West feet above your own private property.
therealallpro@reddit
“It’s doesn’t matter if they have billion”

you’re right. we should use our legally registered firearms to shoot down drones encroaching on our private airspace

Buddy the billion dollar company flying the drones over your head are counting on you not stirring up political bs.
Yeseylon@reddit
Honestly, I'm not even sure how this would seem political, it's a neighborhood noise thing. Weird for OP to lead with that.
exwijw@reddit
If involves the city doing something, then politicians might get involved. Then it’s political.
Not that it’s a right / left issue. Just that laws and ordinances may be created and that’s politics. Political.
findingjasper@reddit
We live right next to the east Plano Amazon drone base and it’s insane to the max. Like drones every two minutes insane
madscientist08@reddit
Amazon drone facility is near Renner and PGBT.
BenTheHokie@reddit
Have you considered taking up skeet shooting? This is not legal advice.
cels0_o@reddit
I live in E. Plano and spend a lot of time outside. They pass over my house and barely hear them. I hear cars drive my house with my windows closed more than I hear the drones. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that they're not as loud as any other vehicle that passes by my house.
therealallpro@reddit
It’s just you. I live near the corner of Plano and Richardson and I never hear them. You must be right on their path
Realistic-Pay-6931@reddit
Me too. See them every once in a while, but not an issue in my little section of land.
Suitable_Bike_9484@reddit (OP)
Sounds like a me problem then. Thanks for the input everyone.
arcanition@reddit
I really want to sympathize with people having this issue, but I live in East Plano myself directly under one of the common paths for the Amazon drones. They're close enough that I can see them when they're passing over my house/yard.
But here's the thing... they're less quiet than both the highway (75 which is like a half mile from me) and other general neighborhood noises like neighbors doing yard work or a truck driving past my house.
And similar to those noises, I kind of just mind my own business. I can't really say it disturbs my day, especially if I'm not outside, and any bothering it does is similar to the annoyance I feel when my neighbor is mowing their yard. Yeah it can be a little noisy at times, but it's reasonable and none of my business.
ghostofculpeper@reddit
Everything is political. The same people who are flying those drones are the same people running our government and buying off the people who are supposed to represent us. They do not care about you or anyone else, only hoarding more money and wielding more political power.
OkBox1870@reddit
I've seen a few flying over Plano East Senior High in the last week or so, usually coming westward over the creek from Parker and on a trajectory more or less to Spring Creek and 75 maybe...
They are much bigger than any kind of recreational drone, and I've never seen a person nearby that seemed to be controlling them...and they're not so loud as they are just creepy.
Hunger Games vibes.
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
there's an amazon drone base on the edge of Plano/Richardson in E Plano. You probably do see more than the average person if you live near it.
TXVette121@reddit
What part of town? I've never seen one in my area
Lucky-Ducker@reddit
Just take your meds, Grandpa. Everything will be alright.
Hot-Education4582@reddit
You might be able to file a noise complaint if they are flying between 10pm and 6am.
