GenX or Baby Boomer?
Posted by sherlockjr1@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 299 comments
I was born in 1963. So, I’m either a late baby boomer or an early GenXer. Both seem to claim me in their year span.
It doesn’t matter that much I suppose. Just looking for a place to fit. How does one know? Musical tastes? Tragic hipness? Is there a Sherlockjr-shaped hole in either generation, just waiting for this short fluffy gal to step in?
Honest-Database-5534@reddit
Gen Jones, r/GenerationJones, you’ll find out.
AffectionateMotor272@reddit
Gen Jones. We’re stuck inbetween the boomers and Gen X
nichachr@reddit
Is that the name for this group of cuspers?
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Yep. Some deny our existence. But we do seem to have a distinct frame of reference
Ok_Bluejay_6408@reddit
An externally imposed framework is never going to find a place “for you to fit.” You find the place.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I have. Gen Jones has a frame of reference that I recognize. That mostly what I was looking for
FoundationCareful662@reddit
I’m 1964 and I am a Boomer. Boomer just sounds so much cooler than a label Gen X
mccullers@reddit
Teacher here, that teachers this every year...
It is a 100% a made up classification.
You can be what you want to be.
But generally we try to group people to understand many of the common qualities that they have.
For example, I have a friend that lived in a rural area around 1969 and would def identify more with boomers because of how they were raised, church attendance, food eaten/not eaten, music listened to, and more.
Someone bopping around LA or NY at the time would be more Gen X because they were more in the exact moment/music/culture that eventually reached my rural friend \~10 years later.
Sharontoo@reddit
Technically the last “baby boomers” were born in 1964
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I think it’s more about what and who you relate to when you’re on that cusp.
r4d1229@reddit
Born late 1964 so while technically a Boomer, I self-identify as GenX and don't give a fuck if anyone approves.
HilariousBosch@reddit
Same. I was a free-range latch key kid, and I don't identify as a boomer or as a Jones.
AffectionateMotor272@reddit
I was totally latch key kid, and so were all my friends. We did whatever the hell we wanted and no cared. Born 1963 🤷♀️
revolutionoverdue@reddit
This attitude makes you Gen X.
This-Cartoonist9129@reddit
Technically no, because when Gen X first identified, it was 1961. Fuck the 1/1/65ers
yanknga@reddit
Same here. Screw the 1/1/65 gatekeeper that pops up occassionally.
hawksmarinerz@reddit
Early 1964 here and yep I’m GenX and if you don’t like it bite me
badpuffthaikitty@reddit
I was born in late 1963. I don’t give a fuck what you call me. And 90s rock was the best.
Decent_Recover720@reddit
You poor, deluded bastard...
Decent_Recover720@reddit
A fellow Gen X friend of mine is adamant that the Baby Boom should end at 1960, and Gen X should begin with 1961. He believes that if you were old enough to have served during Vietnam, or were getting old enough that, if the war didn't end soon, you could be drafted to serve in the conflict, you're a Boomer. My wife is a few years older than me, born in 1962, and she doesn't feel like a Boomer.
Various-Advance-6400@reddit
Boomer
Martian6261@reddit
Correct, he can’t escape, he is one of us.
Martian6261@reddit
Commonly Defined Generation Timeframes Baby Boomers (1946–1964): 19 years. Generation X (1965–1980): 16 years. Millennials/Gen Y (1981–1996): 16 years. Generation Z (1997–2012): 16 years. Generation Alpha (2013–2025): 13 years.
ElectricMayhem06@reddit
Using exact years to label someone as Boomer or Gen X is a very Boomer mentality. Generations and cultural things don't follow a calendar, so don't come after me with "Nu-uh, the dividing line is at 1960" or whatever. That's not how humans work.
Identify with the people that feel like your people, and the people trying to pigeonhole you into something you're not can get bent.
SouthernTrauma@reddit
I was born Q4 of 1964. Technically, I should be a booner, but I am SO GenX, through and through. I identify with the music, the fashion, the movies, the unsupervised independence, the adoption of and excitement about technology ... the whole zeitgeist. My brother is barely 2 years older and is definitely a Boomer. He & I couldn't be more different. I will self-identify as GenX until the day I die.
IWuzTheWalrus@reddit
You are a boomer. We run all the way to the end of 1964.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Already there friend. I like it. I recognize a lot of the references
Conscious-Crab-5057@reddit
Born in 1963 and I am the very definition of Gen-x. Latch key kid and all, introduced to new technology and ran with it.
ModeatelyIndependant@reddit
were you were old enough to vote in for Reagan in 1980, you're a boomer.
AffectionateMotor272@reddit
I was seventeen.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I was not old enough. And that would not have been my candidate even if I had been
Purplehopflower@reddit
Truly, you’re Generation Jones, and that age group should not be in with the Boomers. It’s really needs its own category. I also think anyone who is within 2-3 years of the “cutoff” years of a generation is going to relate to both, especially if you have older/younger siblings, close friends, or relatives who influenced you.
MonkeyKingCoffee@reddit
"Generation Jones" is the most Boomer thing of all time.
"I don't want to be lumped in with those Boomers, even though I basically march lock-step with them. I know! I'll call myself Generation Jones! Keeping up with the Joneses! Yeah. That's the ticket."
Meanwhile, GenX is rolling their eyes so far back into their head they can see their frontal lobe.
AffectionateMotor272@reddit
I don’t know… my mom was a boomer, my daughter is Gen X I was born in 1963 and was only four years old during the summer of love. So, I don’t see how I marched lock step with the boomers 🤷♀️
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I’m coming to that conclusion too, thanks. I don’t fit either
ladyphoenix62@reddit
We are Gen Jones. Not really boomers and not really Gen X.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I didn’t even know that was a thing until 3 days ago when some of the people here said that. They directed me to the Gen Jones subreddit. And yes, we are. I recognize the cultural references are right in my wheelhouse
Lampwick@reddit
My wife is '62, which is technically boomer, but more realistically it's the sub-generation of "gen Jones". As she put it once, they're the boomers that showed up to the party late, after the fun was over, just in time to get stuck cleaning up. Douglas Coupland who wrote Generation X based it off what he saw the younger generation getting stuck with, which he started to notice because Gen Jones got the same shit end of the stick to some degree.
My wife and I had similar upbringing and experiences despite a 7 year gap, but we definitely have distinctly different cultural touchstones from our youth.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I’ve seen that said too. And the cultural touchstones I’m seeing over at the Gen Jones subreddit are spot on
medigapguy@reddit
The years brackets are stupid.
It's more about your childhood and how you were raised.
Mandyvlp@reddit
I agree but there have to be parameters. My husband is technically a Millennial but HATES the arbitrary years associated. He’s more Gen X in terms of how he was raised, music and tv taste, etc.
medigapguy@reddit
Not really.
They didn't even start labeling generations until the mid 60's. They started with the boomers and then retroactively named past generations.
Marketers and news was so anxious to label us they did it before they even knew us. Thus GenX. Ironically they quickly forgot us and either talked about the boomers, or the younger people. Giving us what our title should have been. The forgotten generation.
If someone was raised by our generations of parents at a later age. stuck a key around their neck and was told to raise themselves. I will gladly welcome them to the most unconsidered generation ever
MicheleRSimon@reddit
Cutoff is 1964 for boomers. I'm 1965 and relate more to older GenX like me. I don't get 90s music at all lol
ButterflyStock1791@reddit
I guess I'm a bit of an anomaly. I'm a "geriatric genx" (1965) and love 90s music. But I also love 70s and 80s. Even 2000s. Hell, idc, I just listen to whatever.
KindCommentary@reddit
The term Generation X was coined by Douglas Coupland in his classic novel (1991) about the generation born from 1960 to 1978.

I'm '65 GenX. I figure from '62 through '64 get a pass if they aren't assholes. Like my cousin.
If they are assholes they are Boomers. Like my other cousin.
TillikumWasFramed@reddit
You're a Boomer, sorry.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Jones, sorry not sorry
JasminJaded@reddit
The description for this sub puts GenX at 1961 to 1981.
The most commonly recognized definition is: Baby Boomers (1946–1964), Gen X (1965–1980.)
Your pick.
hapster85@reddit
I hadn't noticed the sub description being that broad, but it explains the posts I've seen about people already being on Medicare. Lol
JasminJaded@reddit
I had to check to see if I was considered eligible to join. 1980, so be it. lol
hapster85@reddit
Yeah, 1980 is unquestionable. Most sources call it 1965 - 1980. Sometimes 1964. I've never seen it set as early as 1961 though. But it's just a demographic regardless, so it's all arbitrary.
The Baby Boomers are so named because of a literal record increase in the birth rate following WWII. The demarcations of when that began and ended can be a little fuzzy. I've no idea what the defining characteristics of GenX are other than being the generation following the Boomers though. Or why it ended in 1980 or whatever. It makes sense to someone somewhere I guess.
JasminJaded@reddit
Baby boomers have a more distinct timeline than anyone. Gen X is just the children of boomers.
hapster85@reddit
We're the generation following the Boomers, but an estimated 30% or 20 million of us, have Silent Generation parents. About 3%, or nearly 2 million have Greatest Generation parents.
JasminJaded@reddit
Leaving the majority to whom?
hapster85@reddit
Doesn't change what I said.
JasminJaded@reddit
Right- you remain as wrong as before.
hapster85@reddit
You're the one who said GenX is just the children of Boomers. And we're not. At least a third are the children of the two generations who preceded the Boomers. What's so difficult to understand about it's not the parentage defining the demo?
JasminJaded@reddit
The defining characteristics of Gen X clearly don’t match EVERYONE within that time period, just as the defining characteristics of the baby boomers, and the silent generation, and millennials, etc., etc..
There’s nothing difficult to understand about outliers and for the sake of this argument, the majority is what matters… It’s called statistics, perhaps that’s what’s too difficult for you to understand.
Fin.
hapster85@reddit
Over 20 million hardly qualifies as an outlier. But it's ok. People overgeneralize all the time.
UncleSlayton77@reddit
Xennial 1977-1983.
Mandyvlp@reddit

I prefer the terms junior X and elder millennial. Makes something somewhat irrelevant more fun.

Exactly. The borders are kinda indistinct, and really depend on where your frame of reference and personality fits.

sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Indeed, though some here call it the consolation prize because we’re not the cool kids. Or still Boomer but pretending we aren’t so we don’t have to listen to Gen X say “okay BOOMER” with a sneer
Defiant-Variety-9473@reddit
Lol. Definitely the latter
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I used to be the unpopular kid in school who wasn’t allowed to sit where they wanted to sit, ever. The kid wearing the wrong jeans. The kid who didn’t get the dirty jokes by middle school. The perpetual new kid because dad was in the Navy. As such, I’m really sensitive to this energy I’m finding here and there in this subreddit. Exclusive club. No you can’t sit with us. Really defined boundaries like your self worth depends on it.
For a group of people who say you don’t care, some of you care an awful lot.
Defiant-Variety-9473@reddit
Not sure what you are talkng about I was simply agreeing with you that I wouldn't want to be called boomer although it happens to me anyway. All the designations are somewhat arbitrary and don't mean a whole lot to me other than I recognize some of the shared history and memories I read all the different subs relating to generations too as I'm curious
Feel free to call yourself whatever you want but frankly generationjones is a pretty cool name Of course there will always be ignorance about the nuance of whatever generation you were born into
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Oh I’m sorry! I’ve been running into the attitude I was talking about here and there on this sub. Apologies that I thought that was the angle you were coming from and clicked into vent mode.
And I agree with everything you said. And I’m taking a few people here way to seriously I think
Defiant-Variety-9473@reddit
No worries. Just shows every generation has its jerks. Have a great rest of your day either way!
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
You as well!

Generation Jones. Named for "Keeping Up with the Joneses."
These are the Boomers who know their generation is a train wreck. So they "identify as Gen Jones."
Junior_Statement_262@reddit
great post
Formal_Plum_2285@reddit
Two of my best friends are from 1965 and while that’s supposed to be Gen X, they are even more boomer like than my parents. I’m 10 years younger and we grew up in two different worlds.
Ok_Ad3036@reddit
OP is Generation Jones. In my view these generations do not have sharp cutoffs. They are all more of a continuum. Each generation fades into the next.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
The OP concurs. I’m somewhere in the middle. Hence, Jones

And it’s that energy, that mean girl “no you can’t sit with us” energy, that makes me glad to be Generation Jones. Have fun telling people you don’t care while simultaneously caring so, so much.
Mandyvlp@reddit
Haha. You’re the one that asked the question? Wound you have reacted differently if they responded that you are Gen X? 🤣
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I was asking the question yesterday. Having seen some of the responses that were indeed “you can’t sit with us Boomer,” and others who told me about Generation Jones, I’m starting to think I’m not Gen X. And I’m not a Boomer, not that I’d say that word as an insult the way some do. (aka okay Boomer)
Gen Jones seems to fit best

Meh - 1964 here, technically I'm supposed to be a boomer but F that. I am firmly GenX or GenJones. My siblings are mostly dinosaurs in terms of understanding the world we currently live in. As far as music I love it all... 60's, 70's, 80's 90's, etc. They all have merits. I go by artists, not by era. Fashion has mostly been meh to me because I really just don't care. I am a 60+ year old woman who dresses like a 12 year old boy (jeans, t-shirt, sneakers) and just really doesn't care what other people think.

Actually, I’m Gen Jones.
And I would suggest that I may be physically boomer, but these things are determined by more than calendar
It’s like the Boomers had a party, and my generation showed up just in time to clean up the mess they left.

I've always said "We were late to the Party, and all the cake was gone"
ideapit@reddit
What mess did you clean up? Cuz it's pretty messy out there, my guy.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I think the emphasis was more on being late to the party and being left with a mess instead of the fun
But you are correct, still messy
GlobalTapeHead@reddit
I was born in 1965, I really have nothing in common with boomers. I have a little bit in common with Gen X. Where Gen X and I diverged the most is the 90’s music. I like grunge and 90’s music just fine but I don’t love it, greatly prefer late 70’s and early 80’s stuff.
MicheleRSimon@reddit
Same here same age. For me music stopped in 1980s lol.
pnwbutterflychaser@reddit
Technically you’re a boomer, but it’s really about your vibe, because we all know why boomers have a bad reputation, but not everyone fits into that mindset. Some of that probably does have to do with being a late (60-65) boomer. I’m Gen X and while I don’t make the rules for everyone, I’m happy to have you.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Thanks! Yeah that’s probably true, being late in the span. Maybe chronologically a Boomer but not mentally
ideapit@reddit

Fight_Tyrnny@reddit
I personally think that genX should be split in half from say 1965 to 1972 and then 1973 to 1980. I just think the first half are more like boomers and the second half more like millennials. I spent 30 years in IT and most the people in that first half are the ones asking most the people in the second half to set up their home networks. That second, younger genX group actually grew up with computer like me:
1980 Atari 2600: 7 years old
1980-1985: Apple 2 in elementary school (7 to 12 years old)
1985 NES and C64 (12 years old)
1991 First PC's (386 16 SX) SR Highschool (17 years old)
1993 Using first internet on unix with Gopher at college (19 years old)
etc...
So basically, after supporting tens of thousands of computer users over 30 years, I can tell ya that the older genX group is more like boomers from an entire societal level. (and yes, I did get a minor in Sociology with my BS in Computer Science).

My siblings and I were all born close together in the 1960s, and I consider us all to be GenX. We grew up with the same candy and TV and culture and fashion and music, etc., so I don’t see how my two older sibling are boomers while my younger sibling and I are GenX. I mean, our babysitters were boomers, not us. It’s been a long time since I read the book, but Douglas Coupland’s Generation X defined the generation in a specific way that (as I recall) had nothing to do with 1965 as a starting point, so I have always considered anyone born in the 60s to be GenX.

S99B88@reddit
What you “buy into” is irrelevant. If you want to make up some new definition of the time frame then maybe come up with your own names for the groups?
If you use existing terms can’t just changes the dates to what you want. Sorry kid, you don’t just get decide GenX begins for those born in 1975 and ignore the first decade of the generation.
Of course it’s a continuum. But it is a 15-year cohort by definition. Get over it.

Idk why, but they HATE being the gen Jones gap. I feel like '63ish - '70ish might as well embrace it and make it what they want. I'm at the tail end of genx and couldn't imagine giving a shit if it was decided that it didn't count somehow. If you guys voted me out or something haha.

Generation Jones is the generation or demographic cohort sandwiched between the Baby Boomers and Generation X. The term was coined in 1999 by American cultural commentator Jonathan Pontell, who has argued that the term refers to a distinct generation born from 1954 to 1965

All the way back to '54 huh? I didn't know that. That actually kinda makes sense. My (teen)mom was born in '60 and begrudgingly accepts that she's a boomer but really doesn't fit the bill, imo. I think the last show she went to was Death Cab or something haha. I feel like a brief 1000 word essay on capitalism would be helpful during the Generational Assignment Process.

Boomer. GenX starts in 1965. There's a subset for cuspers called Generation Jones. There's a subreddit for it.
yanknga@reddit
This sub uses the 1961 start like the book GenX suggested and the researchers Strauss & Howe used in the early 90s. The early 60s is the original and more correct GenX timeline. BTW Generation Jones includes 1965.
mosesoperandi@reddit
That doesn't math. I'm '76 which is commonly considered the tail end before you get Xennials. There's no way that Gen X is just 11 years.
yanknga@reddit
Look at Wikipedia it’s the same place you get the 1/1/65 GenX date right? Take a look.
Junior_Statement_262@reddit
that's WHACK
Alewort@reddit
I accept anyone from the earliest to the latest year ever set for Gen X as being Gen X, regardless of whose classification we're talking about. Mostly so that I can claim Obama as Gen X.
dafuqizzis@reddit
The fact that you care puts you in the Boomer category.
S99B88@reddit
Depends. If you’re here to babysit us then you’re probably a boomer. If you’re here because you failed a couple grades so you’re in our class, then you’re cool, you’re one of us.
Flux_Inverter@reddit
The year of birth is not a good measure of a generation. It comes down to how you were raised and the experiences that shaped your childhood and early development.

Gen X is officially defined as being born between 1965 and 1980
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Oddly when I google, the numbers come back sorta indistinct. Like people can’t agree
lovebeinganasshole@reddit
Personally I believe it depends on your parents and how you grew up. If your mom was a stay at home, parents are silent gen, total boomer. If however your parents divorced and you came home to an empty house GenX.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
Silent Generation parents, Boomer sisters, six year gap, I came out wearing a diaphragm on my head like a yamaka (jk)
JustMeInBigD@reddit
I think birth order matters a lot. I'm the eldest and my younger siblings are Gen X. I'm in the stated age range per the sub, but others classify me as a Boomer. I fit pretty well in this sub.
I also enjoy the Generation Jones sub.
I haven't joined any Boomer subs, but I have Facebook, so I think that counts 😁
insecurecharm@reddit
Ooook I love my mom and all but her ass was born in 1950, still a boomer even though her mother was divorced and worked. She's a good 'un though.
FormerLaugh3780@reddit
Are you generally a selfish, self-serving prick? Then you are probably a Boomer.
Butterfly_Cat777@reddit
As a '65er, why does the clearly GenX 1965 always get dragged into Generation Jones? Especially since Generation Jones just seem like Baby Boomers in denial.
Peppyrhubarb@reddit
Eh, 1965 here. The boomers seem like total aliens to me — their lack of technological capability, their expectations that others do things for them. I’m gray haired myself but a lot more self sufficient than what I think of as a boomer. No shame in the label Boomer, but neither it nor Gen X feel quite right and jones hits the spot in between. I guess you can call it denial if you d like, but I myself feel like those children who grew up in the post WWII optimism/eisenhower era turned out very different from those of us who grew up watching the watergate hearings. And boy did I watch them as a 10-11 year old kid.

Strong_Medium_6646@reddit
I was born in ‘65 and relate far more to Jones than X, everyone’s experiences are different. Jones are very different from the Traditional older Boomers.
Gulf_Coast_Girl@reddit
The date span is 1965 - 1980 for GenX so you would be a Boomer.
yanknga@reddit
Nope 1965 is now Generation Jones.
Alternative-Law4626@reddit
I was born in late 1964. A little less question for me. 90 days while an infant does not a boomer make.
I think it depends on if you have older or younger siblings. I was an only child so, ended up being 100% GenX
yanknga@reddit
I’m a 64 too. I had some twit on this sub insisting that Eddie Vedder is a baby boomer. Vedder was born in the last week or so of 64. It’s nuts how locked in on a random date people can get on this generational stuff.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I had older parents, since I was the baby of four kids. My sisters were solidly boomer. Six year gap, then my bro and me. I picked up references from all of them. Old time radio, classic tv, Monkees records, early 70’s bubblegum pop. I was a strange kid
Alternative-Law4626@reddit
I grew up next to a family similar. 3 girls, youngest was born in 1963. You’re probably more Gen Jones. Your siblings would have introduced you to the cultural things they knew about.
I typically had friends that were my age or a little younger. Then went in the Army right out of high school so when I was in college, it was all GenXers. So, most of the first half of my life (along with my experiences growing up) were down the line GenX.
Check them both out and see which “rings true” for your experience. I try Gen Jones, but it doesn’t feel right for me.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I’ll dip a toe in each, thanks!
Fulghn@reddit

Do you have a propensity towards white couches in untouchable white carpeted rooms that nobody but company is allowed into? Do you insist on having fine china displayed in a cabinet that only comes out once a year but is otherwise untouched? Do you have to have your hair done perfectly and your jeans ironed before you can leave the house? Or at least apologize to everyone around you that you haven't done your hair or ironed your jeans? You're a boomer. OR do you like cool 80's music, don't mind eating off of paper plates every meal, are ok throwing on a baseball cap as you walk out the door regardless of if it's windy or not, and want to live as far away from neighbors as possible? GenX of course.
frackthestupids@reddit

Dude, you just described my grandmother’s house. Not even company was allowed in. That room was for photos only.

You fit where you fit and the year is a lot less important than your experience and commonality with the rest of the group. Impactful memories and events are kind of key. Were you impacted by the Kennedy assassination? Then more boomerish. The comment about the beastie boys is actually pretty spot on. Did you/do you have an appreciation for and identify with punk/rap/grunge? Then you lean more GenX.
I was born in 1963 too. Have had quite a few people (douchebags) call me a boomer.
Whatever. 😂

That’s another thing. People in my age range seem to have very eclectic tastes in music. My favorite music comes from everywhere. 60’s, 70’s, New Wave, alternative, grunge, a little country, some rap. Enough rap to get teary eyed when I watched Eminem and Snoop at the Super Bowl.

Generation Jones. I (F 1968) always will think of them as the "Cool Kids", they were the kids four to six years older than me that ruled the back seats of the school bus.
sherlockjr1@reddit (OP)
I was cool kid adjacent. Not one of the cool kids in the back of the bus, but sat close to the back so I could listen to the cool kid stories

Whipstich-Pepperpot@reddit
I have actually started making small comments in the sub recently, putting my toe in the water to test how cold the water is there. Great group, everyone's either been very nice or just ignored me (which is absolutely fine, better to be ignored than harangued).
Even though I am 1968, I was raised under foot with my teen Mom, and slightly older Aunts & Uncle. And all of "playmates" as a kid were always about 5 years older than me so I feel part Gen X and part Jones. And also whatever Gen the kids are calling it these days that comes after X. As I also hung out with my younger cousins and worked as a Nanny for many years so was always around kids younger than me in my teens and 20s.
PuzzleheadedWeird402@reddit
You could fit in either GenX or Baby Boom, or even Generation Jones (1954-1965).
azlmichael@reddit
If you ultimately don’t care what the answer is, you’re Gen X.
queen_surly@reddit
I think on the cusp like that it depends on your family. If you have older sibs and your dad served in the military during WWII or Korea, chances are you relate more to Boomers.
If you were the oldest, and your parents were too young for Korea, you'll have been raised a lot more like GenX.
HasturCrowley@reddit
I'm in a similar place on the other end of Gen X. Born in 1978. Nobody tries to claim im not s Gen X'er, but I participated in many of the things that differentiate X from Millenials.
I dont really care either way, which by default believe it defines me as more Gen X than anything else, lol...
