The other day I was on US 30 in Indiana and a strong cell crossed my path. It was gloomy and fine. Then I crossed the line and wham. I got hit so hard I was pushed to the shoulder. Then visibility dropped to near nothing. It was a wild 20 minutes. Then it passed. I was loaded. Can't imagine if I was empty.

You'll get used to it! Haha. Storms still suck though. Glad you made it through safe driver.

Non-trucker here. With high wind are you supposed to keep driving, or stop on the side of the road, in order to increase chances you don’t flip? Like are yahll taught about that stuff when getting a CDL?

Theres a wind chart you can look at on Google. If you noticed i dropped down into the 40s mph. I was 40k loaded thankfully

My school didn't teach us anything other than backing maneuvers and how to pass the road portion of the exam. You learn about checking the weather including the wind after you get your CDL. At least in my experience. Most companies, especially the larger ones have policies against "sitting ducks." That is, policies against sitting on the side of the road. The answer is to find safe and legal parking ASAP if caught in high winds. Realistically though, you should be parked if gusts and/or sustained winds make travel too dangerous.

Turn into the wind and drive. Are you stupid?

Respect for actually slowing down at a safe pace instead of just trying to run it. So many times people are posting their dash cam videos here and they only slow down like 5mph

I know the feeling, it's always worse at night. I had a pucker moment about 20 years ago crossing the Mississippi river on one of those smaller US Highway bridges. If I had the nerves to look at my mirrors instead of intently staring out the windshield I know I would have seen my trailer tires off the ground.

I drive an extended box truck delivering DME and have, one time, skied. You know, the right hand side wheels totally off the ground by the strong wind! I thought, this is it I'm going over. But nope. It stayed for less than a minute and back down.

Scary stuff. Wind is the worst type of weather out there on these roads imo. Dense fog is the 2nd scariest for me.

I’m glad you didn’t flip. It looked terrifying to me. 😬
