For trouser wearers, how long do your trousers/jeans/chinos last before tearing?

My jeans would always rip at the crotch after a year or so. With chinos they rip at the crotch. I do walk a lot and occasionally run to places, compared to most people.
-Intrepid-Path-@reddit
I have never had trousers tear at the crotch. I wear mine for years.
Active_Definition_57@reddit
My jeans tend to go at the knees or the crotch but they tend to last a few years. Sometimes a pocket will succumb first.
Some_Masterpiece6639@reddit
Mine last a while, but washing them as little as possible helps (wear them 4-5 times before washing) and don’t use fabric conditioner on them as it thins the fabric and makes it prone to breakage.
Also depends on the quality.
BasisOk4268@reddit
You’re wearing a size small
OurSeepyD@reddit
Not necessarily. It happens even if wearing normal sized jeans, particularly if you cycle.
BasisOk4268@reddit
Who tf is cycling in jeans
OurSeepyD@reddit
People that have pub bikes
JustNoGuy_@reddit
No idea, I replace my clothes every few years, they don't get rips or holes in them.
GooseyDuckDuck@reddit
You need better fitting trousers, this has never happened to mine.
money2502@reddit
My jeans (Levi’s 541) last about 6 months but my thighs are very large and happens regardless of brand.
bobanators@reddit
All my jeans end up this way. After year may be less time than mine usually go though, maybe 2 years ish. Definitely not wearing the wrong size as people suggest though.
Pedantichrist@reddit
ITT: folk who were never taught to pull up their trousers when sitting.
Just grasp the front of the thigh and lift slightly as you sit. When you do it you will recognise the motion from old films, sum be more comfortable, ads will stop fucking up your trousers so quickly.
Alert-Meringue2291@reddit
Sounds like you are wearing the wrong size.
whyshouldiknowwhy@reddit
In what way? This is how all of my jeans die
Pedantichrist@reddit
It is not. My jeans die at the knees.
New_Slice_1580@reddit
How often do you wear them ? If it’s all you wear every day then a year sounds ok.
Also do you wash them regularly? As if you don’t wash regularly the crotch will blow quicker too
b135702@reddit
Female trouser wearer here.
Usually the thighs/crotch wares after 6-12 months.
I imagine this isn't an issue cis men or people with skinny thighs have to deal with. The fabric does wear down after a couppla weeks though.
Petcai@reddit
Well, I have a pair that's 31 years old and they still haven't torn so...I cannot answer.
NefariousnessNext840@reddit
2-3 years s £35 from M&S
maksigm@reddit
Are you fat? This only happens to me when I'm overweight and wearing trousers that are too small.
MisterIndecisive@reddit
..Forever?
CapitalWatchClub@reddit
Not being rude, are you a bigger chap? iv been a bigger chap in the past and i always ripped my crotch (wearing a comfortable size)
Alphascout@reddit
Ouch sounds painful
elliejoness@reddit
When I was going into the office every day and therefore wearing jeans basically every day they would last around a year. Bought some Levi's thinking they'd be different but alas. I'm definitely wearing the right size.
Underwritingking@reddit
I've never had this happen.
Maybe you are buying cheap trousers, trousers that are too tight, or you crotch is secreting some sort of hideous cloth-rotting chemical
Andries89@reddit
Could be from chafing and then the fabric between your thighs wears thinner. So at some point it'll tear, especially if you have a seating position with your legs opened up a bit
simmyawardwinner@reddit
never,,...
T_raltixx@reddit
Never had it happen to me.
Key_Hearing5146@reddit
About a year if I’m wearing them regularly crotch wear is inevitable if you walk a lot, so honestly the real question isn’t if they’ll rip, it’s when .
Derfel60@reddit
I have a pair of trousers that started fraying when i was resting pallets on my thighs after about 4 months but ive never had trousers rip at the crotch.
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
I've got smart trousers which I've had for about a decade.
Jeans tend to wear at the groin. I repair the jeans I use for everyday outdoors wear, and keep a couple of pairs for wearing not on the farm etc.
AllThatIHaveDone@reddit
Took me a second or two to realise you didn't mean that your trousers were WiFi enabled.
SpecialistDaikon4663@reddit
I’ve never had that happen
Drath101@reddit
Happens to us blokes with a MASSIVE stride
Adam_the_Penguin@reddit
Is that why? I've always wondered why mine tear so quickly.
Drath101@reddit
On a serious note I've never done it in my own clothes but I've ripped alot of work trousers around the groin. Someone pointed out one day that because of an old knee injury I kneel down really awkwardly, and it stretched the crotch of my trousers too much
Whocares1846@reddit
Only last a couple of years for me with jeans from Next.
Rhubarb-Eater@reddit
Mine are all 10+ years in, never had this happen and I have a big bum and thighs!
NoApartment7399@reddit
You need to get your trousers properly fitted. My husband wears suit pants or chinos to work and he's using the same pairs for years now. Some he's still got from his teens and he's well into his 30s now. All have been tailored and fitted for the sake of fit, comfort and longevity. It's a good investment.
FreddyFrogFrightener@reddit
Usually about a year, but I got myself a pair of Levi 501s and they still look like new after 2 years and I wear them for work too.
gemmajenkins2890@reddit
I know it’s more a teenager thing, but make sure you are wearing them pulled up properly so as not to cause unnecessary tugging on that area.
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
See, it depends. Wear them properly when you're walking, but loosen up the leg (e.g. pull it up a bit higher) so there's room around thigh area so the fabric doesn't stretch too much. This is especially imporant if you're like me and prefer to sit in weird position on your chair with legs anywhere but the floor.
PurpleOctopus6789@reddit
The pair I am currently wearing, I have had for 5+ years.
I've stopped ripping jeans/trousers when I learned to slightly adjust the trousers leg to add more room when I am sitting crossed legs, that way the fabric is not stretched.
I think the last pair I've ripped lasted 8 years or so and that was years ago.
I run a lot but when I run, I wear running shorts, not normal trousers.
Pristine-Account8384@reddit
Have you got balls of steel?
lodius@reddit
I wear chinos every day to work, and walk about 10-12k steps a day. Never had issues with them, and I've had some pairs a good few years.
Jeans... Recently I've been wearing Levi's, and they've lasted a good couple years before starting to get thin between the thighs (and will make a hole soon enough). I used to wear cheaper jeans before that, and they could sometimes only last 6-12 months.
Never had any of either rip or tear (other than jeans between the thighs as mentioned)
Ornery-Wasabi-1018@reddit
Jeans wear through on the thigh after about a year. Don't wear chinos. Work trousers seem to last forever.
_pankates_@reddit
I find that too, jeans wear through. I guess the fabric on the inner thigh is rubbing all the time as you walk, and it's under pressure too from the movement of the seams.
fastdog123456@reddit
Had my levis 501 for over 10 years still good condition
PsychologicalRun1911@reddit
Depends, anywhere from couple weeks to couple years.
Low-Captain1721@reddit
From most retailers a year would be quite decent for me.
I got 2 pairs of jeans from M & S couple of years ago & after 3 months they both ripped exactly in the same place. Cheaper supllier imports to blame unfortunately.
Clothes most certainly don't last like they used to. A decade ago you could get a couple of years out of most trousers at least.
I buy Levi jeans, the extra money well worth it. I still get 2 or 3 years out of them.
doggypeen@reddit
Never had jeans rip
cgknight1@reddit
For Chinos to rip like that they are either too tight, too loose or too poorly made.
