Raced to the park and tied

The wife asked if we could go for a walk around the park after getting home from work yesterday. I told her I could use a bike ride, she chose to drive so she could run some errands after.
When she got home we chatted and waffled about for an hour or so. I kept trying to leave, but not until she was ready because it's only about a ten minute ride to the park we were going to. I know the drive is only about five, but adding all the getting in the car and traffic and parking it seemed like it would be about the same. I was sure she wasn't considering any of that, she's a car person and I've always been a bike person.
Eventually we both admitted we were waiting for the other to leave, so I just stood up and grabbed my helmet. I caught her leaving in my mirror before I had turned off our street.
It was just about a tie. She pulled in first, but I had the bike locked up before she caught up to me so we're calling it even. Afterwards we accidentally bumped into each other at McDonalds on the way home and she teased me about how I just didn't want to ride with her.
Just thought that was fun and figured I'd share :)

There's a real smugness when it's hard for others to get a carpark and you pull a bike up to the front door of wherever you are going.
My old work cycling to the building was faster than the walk from where I had to park if I wanted free parking.

I do enjoy the quick ziparound when I can see a car struggling with decision paralysis. I don't feel good about feeling smug about it, but I do feel good about doing it.

Nothing to do with e-bike but this reminded me a story of me and my ex. I used to think a different path than the one she normally takes is much quicker to walk to her home from the train station. One day we decided to walk the different paths separately and see who gets to her place first. We both agree to normal walking pace. Theres a section where you can see through to the other path, when we both get to that section we both looked at the other side and saw that we were both running trying to win. We laughed really hard about it, she ran towards me and hugged me. It was one of the sweetest memory I have of her. She cheated a few months later, we broke up and that destroyed me for many years. She’s now married with someone else.

We didn't even try! I just assumed it would be about the same time, but she thought I'd be slower so she wanted to give me a head start lol

Depends where you live and traffic. In my area its way faster taking a car. There there no traffic or a lot of stop signs.

Yeah, we took different routes and I definitely took the bike-favoring one on instinct. No cars, no traffic, no lights. She probably had three lights and who knows what else.
That's the funny thing though. If we took the same route it would probably still be close because I'd be stopped at the same lights and dealing with the same drivers. I just had a way easier time, less waiting, didn't pay for gas.
She wants to try riding one of my road bikes to work when it's nice now :)
