I love my cat, got him when I was 5 years old and he was 2 weeks old, he lived for 24 years and was the nicest most chill cat ever, he didn't even attack birds or mice he just chilled with them lol, and never scratched up furniture or had "zoomies" or anything bad or annoying at all during his entire life... I thought I loved cats but every other cat I've met since was annoying. Also when I was a kid he'd follow me all the way to school and to the store, and always follow me back home too, a lot of people said about him 'he's more like a dog than a cat' and I always didn't really understand what they meant but now I get what they mean. Like I could carry him anywhere and he never start squirming or freaking out like a normal cat would do... And he always slept in my bed under the covers purring. I miss him :(

Dude, this reminds me of my own dog that passed away the December of 2025, only a few days before Christmas. We had to put him down because he developed cancer to his stomach. We had him since i was in grade school and he died when i was 27 years old...
Sorry to hear that man, losing a childhood pet is awful. I'm sure it's still got to be painful since it's only been a few months. My cats are getting up there in years, they're from the same litter and 18 this month, and I am 100% not ready to let them go. I just hope I get at least to 20 with them.
I saw somewhere that introducing a new kitten to them can help prolong their life by making them want to look after it, but I don't think I could ever replace them, and it'd feel like that's what I'd be doing by getting a new one
You can adopt another kitten and sort of see it as them watching over it and passing their job of protecting you from death to it, not saying it won't hurt like hell, but at least to cope a little
My dog passed away on December first last year and to this day I still sometimes get a sort of dull aching longing for her. I can't imagine losing someone who was with you since childhood
At least she's in a better place now, playing with other kittens and catching pigeons and mice in heaven (idk if you believe in that, but as someone who lost a few pets to old age it helps you cope with the loss at least a little bit)
Better to have one for your child. Parrots and Macaws go into deep depression when their owners die, having a young one for your child gives them both lifetimes together.
I had to put my cat down last autumn. He was my best friend. I had him for 15 years. He was just the laziest, sweetest blob of fluff, always snoozing in my lap. He'd always had kidney and other health problems, so he just operated at the lowest energy level. Towards the end, he barely left the kitchen and started pissing near his food so he wouldn't have to walk to his litter box. He used to be a big fat chungus, but he was just skin and bones. I made an appointment for him at the vet, but I knew they would tell me to put him to sleep. I spent the whole trip there trying to hold back tears.
Reminder don't feed your cats dry food. Most kidney problems are from being taxed so much by dehydration it causes (plus most of them have garbage fillers).
Here where I live anything other than dry food is pretty expensive and besides my cat hates it for some reason, like she legit will eat it and puke it a few hours later, she's got a pretty sensitive stomach and it even took a few weeks when she was a kitten and we switched her food to adult one, but besides that she drinks plenty of water throughout the day and also eats better than me since my mom sometimes gives her a few bits of plain chicken breast or a small bit of steak, and her analysis always turn out more than good, she's a big sleeper but also has some days where she's hyperactive and jumping from side to side and running from one end to the other of our apartment, so yeah, Im happy with her
My vet always tells me this but my cat refuses to eat anything but dry food. Like when I try to force the change by only offering wet food, he just doesn’t eat for the day. Luckily he’s totally water obsessed and drinks a lot and his blood work always comes back great though

With the exception of parrot owners, of course. Buy one of those mfs and you'll have to make provisions for it in your will.
