A North Korean Delegate on Iran’s 2023 Defense Industry Day events engaging in very unsafe practices with a PC-09 (Iranian copy of the SIG-Sauer P226 apparently renamed as DIO Ager) with golden slide

Is this the North Korean roulette?
drummagqbblsw@reddit
Yes the North Koreans think revolver-based roulette does not fit the great Juche so they improve it to use self-loading pistols
Nesayas1234@reddit
Ngl an Iranian P226 would be cool
Klutz1907@reddit
Banger watch though, anyone able to ID it/has a higher res image?
grumpykraut@reddit
Case in point: In a country like North Korea it takes a special kind of person to rise to high military honors.
zeocrash@reddit
Presumably one of the uses for a North Korean general's sidearm is to avoid torture, imprisonment and a painful death at the hands of the secret police should you displease lil Kim. Got to see how the weapon would handle in such a situation.
FaceJP24@reddit
I feel like it's almost a mathematical certainty that military-issued sidearms are used more for "self-inflicted casualties" across the world than they are for actual combat/self-defense.
Especially now in the world of drone warfare where it's hard to get medical treatment from your side or the enemy.

Reminds me of the Turkish anti suicide trigger guards, on their g3's.
TobiasReiper47ICA@reddit
Wait, what did they do?
QwerYTWasntTaken@reddit
They made trigger guards that make it harder to pull the trigger when the gun is facing back at you.
zeocrash@reddit
Which is why it's important to properly test these things before buying.

Pistols were important military weapons...up to like the late 1800s.
Revolutionary-Wash88@reddit
I can't tell if this statement confirms or denies the previous theory
PsychoTexan@reddit
Sometimes in WWI as well. Also tunnel rats in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
So basically either before the advent of semi/fully auto longarms/smgs or in niche ultra confined spaces.
Username_St0len@reddit
huh, that was the exact purpose of the P226 in the light novel turned anime 86
rmfox0726@reddit
Agreed, that’s his contingency plan!
Natural_Youth_5941@reddit
Unsafe practices is doing a lot of heavy lifting when you’re essentially flagging the whole room with the hammer down
MajorJefferson@reddit
You ever been to such an event? All guns are checked and cannot fire because they remove or change the firing pins... You cannot physically have a gunshow without flagging people all over the place. There are lots of safety standards tho.
srivatsa_74@reddit
Still bad form though, isn't treating every gun like it's loaded a cardinal rule of gun safety?
MajorJefferson@reddit
If you cannot be trusted to enforce enough other safety rules for these events you cannot have an event. Its literally impossible. How would you do that? Have a single line of guns so nobody can be downrange? How long would that line be? How many miles of open, controlled ground behind the line?
See how this gets impossible in an instant?
There are more than enough rules to make it safe, they just need to be followed and enforced.
You cannot compare your weekend rangeday with your buddies with an event with thousands of visitors and more importantly customers.
Activision19@reddit
Ive been to a gunshow where someone picked up what turned out to be a loaded gun off a vendors table and shot a hole in the wall. Luckily nobody got shot, but each show has very different safety standards. After that incident that show now requires the vendors to open the bolt and put a zip tie through the ejection port on each gun they have on their table.
MajorJefferson@reddit
Was this in the US? In Germany on the IWA for example they need to have filled down pins so this could never happen. Pretty sure they just didn't enforce the rules at that show and thats why it happened. The issue is probably also that in America gun shows are used for trading more often than not, which wouldnt go well with the filled down firing pins haha
Revolutionary-Wash88@reddit
The guns shows I've attended have checks but everything has a functioning firing pin
bananaslama277@reddit
He was hoping it was loaded so he didn't have to go back
cfwang1337@reddit
Seriously, I'd do the same in his place.

Is this Korean Roulette?
wasted-degrees@reddit
Those being the two uses of a pistol in North Korea, either executing someone, or using it on yourself before they come for you.
mlin1911@reddit
Stupid moron pointed a pistol to his own head. What a good demo for short range execution capability loved by dictators???
