Is the XD-M that bad?

Giving away the XD-M for gear up shows it is doing poorly on the market. Does anyone have any experience with this firearm?
Magoo-1706L@reddit
I took my XDM Elite 10mm to the range and after that it’s sitting since . Definitely not one of my faves
LastLite@reddit
I’m sure there are people that like them, always seems to be someone. But they are complete ass. Entire XD line is and has always been trash.
REVIGOR@reddit
Would you say a Glock 29 is better than a Springfield XD-M Elite Compact OSP 10mm?
I originally went into my local store to get a Glock Blue Label G20/G29 but Glock didn’t have any. So I ended up with a XD-M Elite Compact 10mm. I like it is optics-cut, a grip safety, and the guy at the counter showed me you can swap the grip to be full-size.
What’s trash about the XD-Ms? I do wish there were more options in 10mm.
LastLite@reddit
Springfield has pissed in my cheerios too many times to give them any credit. I’ve had 3 guns from them, they are the only 3 guns I’ve ever sold. XD-9 wildly inaccurate, super ammo picky. 1911 4”, would not cycle anything except fmj, safety broke first time to the range. M1A utter shit, chamber was bored to large casing swelled & wouldn’t eject. So I’m a full blown hater.
I own a Glock 20, an sig X-ten they are my guns for bear country hunts. Both of those pistols have over 1000 rounds through them, Glock has worked flawlessly from the box, sig took 2-3 mags to break in but perfect since then, but their magazines suck and nearly impossible to load them to full capacity, if you leave 1 round out they are fine.
Biggeebes_only@reddit
Probably the same type of person who complains how much gas their car guzzles, but yet bought a gas guzzling car and complains how expensive it is. Did you contact customer service with a displeased, calm attitude and try to get it fixed? It’s sucks that had to happen but I’m sure many have a hard time believing that’s all on Springfield.
LastLite@reddit
Oh you got me! A crippling blow to my ego. I’m sorry my criticism of shit products upset you, you seem invested. Why would I call them? My lgs had them repaired under warranty and I sold them, why keep shit that’s proven to be unreliable. Good day sir.
Biggeebes_only@reddit
Can people not handle discourse now a days without them thinking people are attacking their ego😂? Tens of thousands of other great reviews compared to one person is not anecdotal evidence for a gun being crap. Ya know not everyone’s out to get you if you think that over a comment. Go drink a beer and relaaaaax😂.
LastLite@reddit
Sir, I believe you were the one making personal assumptions “you must be a guy with a truck blah blah” OP asked if they are really that bad that they should be given away. They are budget option at best. Fwiw my truck does get shitty gas mileage somewhere around 13.5mpg, I’m doing my part to promote climate change.
I haven’t been in the gun industry for years, but Springfield hasn’t had a good reputation since the late 90’s. They are budget option with the exception of their bolt action and their 1911’s at best range toys. They are a compromise to almost any other big name manufacturer. The hellcat is probably the best gun they’ve made in 2 decades, and it’s still not as good as its competitors.
And to be honest I’m not a Glock or sig(modern) fan either, but they are in a different class than XD/XD-m. I place Springfield right above hi-point and Kel-tec, I mean I could trade one of my RMRs for an XD and still get cash back. Im not upset at all, the cope is entertaining.
Biggeebes_only@reddit
Not sure why climate change is relative in a gun forum? Haven’t been in the gun industry but basing standards from the 90s. Yet it’s been 35 years and you still hold the same attitude against a gun manufacturer? The whole reason of polymer guns is to provide a purchase friendly option, it is what the WHOLE market has become with concealed booming and advancements in polymer technology. You can’t speak of something if you haven’t fired or tested it out, that’s just ignorance and playing victim. Once again, the Glock and Springfield 10mm have become one of the most budget friendly guns for outdoor enthusiasts — because that’s what the CURRENT market dictates. There has been tons of advancements. Very little people complain about the Springfield. Sure it could have cons, but does it mean it’s shit? Based off your experience from the 90s? Tens of thousands say otherwise. But I appreciate the feedback on why you think it’s bad, and it’s a good to have holistic views around a gun. Good thing Glock and Springfield have basically unlimited aftermarket parts that can make it better to your need? Have you looked into possibly upgrading using trusted aftermarket parts? You can just be ignorant to my opinion or others, you have to approach it with an open mind. Not we can agree to disagree, but that’s my two cents. Go watch YouTube videos, talk to some guides who use 10mm’s and they’ll say you really can’t go wrong with the Glock or Springfield. Hickok 45 loves it, Honest Outlaw, Scootch, Turkey, and few other of the most popular YouTube reviewers on the subject. They know more about a gun than you and I and don’t just shit on one gun because of one experience.
Smooth-Anything8941@reddit
So 2 out of 3 guns not made by Springfield...
TacosNGuns@reddit
I own a G20 10mm and XDm 9mm. XDM has better sights made from steel. Glock uses $0.02 plastic sights. Xdm has a smoother, crisp trigger. Glock has a mushy trigger that goes “sproing” when it breaks. EdC has a match chamber. Glock has a sloppy chamber that bulges brass.
Glocks only real advantage is aftermarket support. Which you will definitely need as you spend $200+ to update the sights. And another $50-150 to upgrade the trigger.
highvelocitypeasoup@reddit
I had an xd 45 years ago. I couldn't shoot it for shit but I was new to handguns at the time. It worked well for the limited round count I put through it
elguapodiablo74@reddit
I have a xd subcompact mod 2 online 45 acp. Its my edc gun. Incredibly accurate and reliable. Aside from the lame grip zone shit, I love this gun. Pretty covid when ammo was more affordable, I also used it regularly for bowling pin competitions and did fairly well.

*You know some dumb fk exec in corporate came up with that and people in the meeting were too scared to speak up and tell him what a dumb fucking idea that was
mzrdisi@reddit
Gotta know where to put all those booger hooks - should also label the bang switch
Big_Z_Diddy@reddit
They make grip-tape kits for them that help immensely.
juggarjew@reddit
Market is pretty limited for a $2000+ bolt gun. Not surprised they're giving away a pistol.
TacosNGuns@reddit
I don’t think the market is that limited, this Springfield just isn’t a competition rifle at that price point. It isn’t going to out shoot today’s bargain Savage & Ruger rifles. And it isn’t high enough style and quality to compete with Sako, Steyr, Weatherby etc.
mzrdisi@reddit
Yeah, totally agree. We sold a lot of Weatherby rifles at or near that price point.
I don't think most consumers consider Springfield as a compelling offer here, just from a branding perspective.
Now a friend picked up an AR from Springfield recently and the shop gave him a steep discount on a 9MM XD - that is much more compelling.
youy23@reddit
They’re not that bad because they’re not made by springfield. They’re made by HS Produkt and marketed by springfield. They’re not great but they work. The echelon is looking pretty damn good though.
The springfield 2020 bolt guns are bad because they are made by springfield and springfield has had horrible QC issues across everything they make especially the springfield prodigy 2011.
A Bergara or Tikka is gonna be a much better rifle for less money.
yeah_yeah-whatever@reddit
Probably not. Buy whatever works
Racktracker1@reddit
I have an XD-M in 40. IMO it’s as good as any of my glocks.
AllHale07@reddit
Ergonomically it feels like holding a rectangle
TacosNGuns@reddit
That’s my feeling about all my Glocks. My XDM 9mm is slimmer and more ergonomic than any double stack Glock.
AllHale07@reddit
It really is not. Shot an XDM and I have a Glock 17 gen5, and it glock wins in pretty much every category.
TacosNGuns@reddit
So gen five got the grip right 17 years after Springfield XD & Xdm? That doesn’t speak well of Glock “Perfection”. I’m a Glock G30 & G20 owner and I don’t fanboy either make.
AllHale07@reddit
The grip is pretty much the same between gens with the exception of finger grooves. Overall similar feel to the grip
Strict_Swimming_4288@reddit
Yeah, overall feel of a block.
ZRaddue@reddit
So it's just as good as Glock?
facebacon69@reddit
I had to wrap the grips and it felt way better
CalmDownReddit509@reddit
Same. It was my very first gun and I still love it.
protonicfibulator@reddit
I have one of the original XD Tactical 5.25” in .40 S&W. It is by far the most accurate centerfire autoloader I’ve ever owned. And it eats everything from lightweight high velocity loads to some Double Tap 200 grain hard cast loads that are pretty warm for 40. I need to get a 357 Sig barrel for it because I hate money.
MentionMyName@reddit
XDM-E in 10mm. Near 400 rounds in and no issues. Pretty accurate and has an awesome trigger. They are just blocky, is my opinion. But the Talon grips have helped with the feeling in the hand.
sttbr@reddit
Once I learned that it costs ruger $18 to make an LCP I stopped looking at manufacturing costs as being expensive
youritalianuncle@reddit
NO fuckin way it's 18, that's insane lol
cowboy3gunisfun@reddit
They're just dated. Plenty of better options in the polymer 9 market these days. Performance wise, they work and hold up to abuse pretty well. If it was an Echelon in 9mm I'd take the deal. But an outdated gun and cartridge kills it for me.
Alpha_Hellhound@reddit
It's a 10mm, not 9.
cowboy3gunisfun@reddit
I'm aware. I've shot both the 10 and 9. I can assure you that performance and function wise, they're the same. Just different calibers and a larger frame.
bownt1@reddit
10mm is more bigger
ShipDit1000@reddit
No, that gun is absolutely awesome. This is just a truly great offer.
AnAcceptableUserName@reddit
For all the memes and shit talk about them they're fine.
I have an XDM-9 compact I got for carry 15+ yrs ago. 13+1 with the flush mag, 19+1 w/ the stendo. Not my favorite shooter but it's fine.
Big_Z_Diddy@reddit
I like the Springfield XDm, I have close to 10k rounds through my 9mm 1st Gen XDm with no issues that weren't ammo QC issues. My previous pistol was an OG HS2000 XD that had close to 20,000 through it before the extractor failed and I traded it in on the XDm.
It fits my hand just fine. 19+1 capacity isn't the highest, but it isn't the lowest for a full-size either.
I will say that wrapping the handle with grip tape helps immensely. The whole "Grip Zone" schtick they have going on is my only real complaint.
Bonus is that most good manufacturers make holsters for them. Safariland makes several duty holsters for them as well. Drawback is they aren't as modular or aftermarket friendly as Glock or Sig.
And now I brace for the hate.
Chewie090@reddit
Lol if I'm buying a $2k bolt gun it is absolutely not gonna be a springfield armory
Threather19@reddit
The XD is poor people pistol that shoot only a few hundred rounds a year.
SOSB-Haru@reddit
grinding_our_axes@reddit
The XD-m line is on its way out in favor of the Echelon. This is a way for them to clear out some stock. The 10mm XD-ms are very good.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
They're not that bad, but they're not good.
I think the thing to note is Springfield is giving away the 10mm version. It was probably not as popular as they thought it would be and so they're overstocked.
Why not dump them to help drive people to buy a $2k bolt action?
Trailhawkfishnsh00t@reddit
Why are they not good?
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
There's just nothing good about them. They're mostly "fine". Like they're not that bad. But for the same money you're better off with a glock, CZ, or even a S&W.
The XD line is just the Croatian HS2000, and springfield slaps their rollmark on it, upcharges $100, and Fudds eat it up because "Muh two worl'wurs!" even though it's not even the same company. They just bought the naming rights.
Trailhawkfishnsh00t@reddit
CZ doesn’t make a 10mm I don’t believe. But there is a lot good about them.. magwell, factory fiber optic sights. Fully supported chamber, higher capacity
grinding_our_axes@reddit
No 10mm CZs. The closest you can get is a Tanfoglio or a CZ 97 conversion, but those conversions stopped happening.
CobraJay45@reddit
Literally nobody is rushing out to by XDMs based on this logic, that doesn't even make any sense.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
I work at an FFL part time. I've seen plenty of people who specifically want a Springfield because they think it's American and associate with the Springfield Armory of 1940.
CobraJay45@reddit
They want a Springfield XDM in 9mm/10mm because Springfields were used in two world wars?
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
Yes. Remember plenty of people buy a gun with absolutely zero gun knowledge, and plenty of people buy a gun and never use it. Also remember just how gullible old folks can be.
They want a Springfield because to them Springfield Armory means the Springfield Armory that built M1 Garands and 1911s during WWII. They don't know it's a completely different company. They also want to "Buy American". They don't even realize that HK's are made in Columbus Georgia, Sig Sauer's in Exeter NH, Glock in Smyrna GA, and FN in Columbia South Carolina.
That's why modern Springfield Armory bought the naming rights. Marketing, and it works. A lot of people don't know the XD line is just the HS2000 with a springfield rollmark. They actually think it's an "American Product".
TheAngelsCharlie@reddit
You couldn’t fill a high school auditorium with WWII vets, and barely that of Vietnam vets, that are still alive today. So you’re saying that old people that were toddlers during the Vietnam war associate Springfield with the 1911 as an American company even though it hasn’t been their entire adult lives and this somehow drives sales of modern Springfield pistols? Seriously?
My grandfather fought in WWII. My father in Vietnam. Whenever they and their friends mentioned the 1911, it was mostly to comment about how you couldn’t hit the broadside of a barn with it if you were inside the barn. I have a hard time believing anyone alive associates Springfield with the old WWII 1911 except guys with some gun knowledge, and certainly not uneducated first time gun owners. People in their 60s grew up in the 80s, around Berettas, Rugers, Sigs and Glocks. If there’s any love for the 1911, it’s more nostalgic than “muh two world wars,” because all those people are dead and it’s just become a joke to the rest of the community. Those outside it don’t even have a clue as to what it means.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
K.
CobraJay45@reddit
Nobody is confused about or gives a shit about XDMs being a spiritual descendent or clone of some old HK pistol. Caniks are basically Walther clones and sell like hotcakes. The only gun/platform folks are buying because of "muh two world wars" are 1911s in 45acp or maybe an M1A type rifle. Nobody is buying Springfield pistols because they associate the pistol with WWII. Thats absurd. Thats like claiming people love Berettas because the Beretta 92 is the successor to the Mauser P38, which was the German sidearm in WWII. There might be a guy or two who thinks that but I unequivocally do not believe people are coming into your shop seeking out Springfields because they associate Springfield with WWII.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
Believe what you want to believe then.
I work part time at an FFL in eastern KY. I know the kinds of uninformed people who buy guns.
Threather19@reddit
And they hated him because he spoke the truth
1Crusty_Old_Man@reddit
It's all that's left of the XDM line.
DrBadGuy1073@reddit
That bad? No. I own a Fullsize XD-45 Tactical, and it's a slimmer comparison to my large frame Glocks. I imagine they aren't selling many of either of those models. Lots of people talk 10mm but how many of them actually buy a 10mm?
TacosNGuns@reddit
I have 3x 😂
hobbestigertx@reddit
Doesn't have anything to do with the quality or sales volume of the XD-M. It's all about marketing and advertising.
It's cheaper to give away a handgun like this than to advertise it. And what better way to get exposure than by putting it in the hands of a gun owner.
JusBrandon@reddit
I think this says more about the 2020 way point than the XDM. The XDM is a FANTASTIC pistol and by offering it in 10mm you're giving consumers what they've been asking for. The way point doesn't seem to be all that interesting so maybe offering it along with a proven reliable pistol in a caliber people want is a way to drum up sales
pheen@reddit
I love my XD-M 10mm... shoots straight and eats everything I've fed it, but the grip is like holding on to big Lego. Nothing a little hockey tape couldn't fix though.
PageGroundbreaking26@reddit
This isn't to move the pistols, this promo is to move the rifles
nabilus13@reddit
I have one, it's not bad at all. It's definitely a bit dated, what with the rather high bore axis and all that, but it works perfectly fine and has never failed. And I've run everything from underpowered bulk to +P hard cast bear loads.
MetapodCreates@reddit
TBH they're pretty solid handguns that get a bad rap because they look funny. A buddy has one and he's never had an issue with it.
Besides, if you're buying a rifle of that quality I'm assuming you're hunting in some wild country, and having a 10mm along on those hunts is probably a good idea.
expertninja@reddit
I mean, buy a 2k rifle and get something that costs them less than ~250 to produce. Berettas rebate seems more desperate.
snippysniper@reddit
When they were still the hs2000 they were $250 guns
awispyfart@reddit
Which rebate is that?
TacosNGuns@reddit
Same statement applies to Glock and all other plastic pistols. Unit cost is likely less than $100.
Lostinspaceballz@reddit
Dude I love my XD-M Elite 10mm sub compact, it's a great damn gun. People just don't seem to love them, but mine shoots like a champ.
GhillieStealth@reddit
I carry an XD in 9mm sometimes. Fantastic firearm for the price.
jayred155@reddit
They're good pistols, but look wierd imo. I've owned a dozen xd, xdm, and xds pistols over the past 15yrs or so. I prefer m&ps for polymer framed striker pistols, so I only own one xd45 now. Making a striker fired pistol is not complicated and people have figured out how to make them run well. People saying they are trash have never owned or fired one and they're just parroting what they read someone else type.
THE-RigilKent@reddit
I everyday carry an XD-M 9mm and have for about 6 months. Prior to that, I carried a XD-9 Subcompact for something like 6 years. I've never had a problem with either excepting twice that I can remember, and both times were due to some ammo I'd bought at the range. Regarding the XD-M, when I bought it, it came with a red dot that was utter ass so I replaced it with a proper one, and since then, I've had no issues whatsoever. Ergonomically, the XD series fits my hand perfectly (which is why I ended up getting them).
1Crusty_Old_Man@reddit
They are good pistols. My EDC is a XDM Elite OSP 4.5" barrel 9mm. I've got an OG XD45 with thousands of rounds through it and it's still shooting.
I have a pair of XDM's in .45 ACP, one in 10mm, and three in 9mm. I far prefer the XDM over the Glock.
MikeyMIRV@reddit
XD-M is a pretty good striker-fired pistol, but not the best in my opinion. I've shot them in 9mm and 10mm. Both were reliable and accurate enough. Did not love the triggers if I recall, ergonomics ok, not the best. I would put them a notch below a Glock, which is kind of the reference standard for striker-fired pistols. My favorite striker-fired pistol is the H&K VP9.
I think the real question on my mind is whether the model 2020 rifles are worth buying. I'm 100% ignorant on that topic.
katsusan@reddit
Sig did a similar thing last year
