This song is a random core memory for me. My sister dragged me to the mall with her when I was a kid. She was looking at dresses and this song was blaring.
I’ve known and loved this song since it came out but only recently did I hear the original song that was sampled for “Rhythm is a Dancer”. It was “Automan” by “Newcleus” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1iF7eZO_Xqk
This and "Mr. Vain" were on the radio a LOT in those days. But my main memories of both is playing over the loudspeakers at the YMCA pool I used to swim at.
So...this is our oldies. Like when my kids hear me listening to this they say it sounds old! Like when I heard The Supremes and Led Zeppelin and CCR. To me it still sounds futuristic because when I was young this was the new music. Time is a trip.
Snap! Performed at a gay bar I worked at, back in 2002. I designed the promo flyers for the bar and was a cocktail waiter/bartender. College was really a fun time.

Rhythm is a dancer, it's a social _________. I never knew what she said here. I've always just said "bad guy" but I feel that's not it. lolol

I strongly identify with that mildly irritated guy dutifully playing a guitar in a dance music video.

90's Techno was a great scene! When the music kept going, and turned into deep house/trance music, I got turned off by it.
weedexpat@reddit
You just needed to eat a little more of that sweet 90s MDMA.
Appropriate-Neck-585@reddit
That's exactly what happened. Trance music is only good when you're high.
cybah@reddit (OP)
I still listen to trance... :) Not high here.
Hell my 78 year old dad listens to trance.. he likes it when he rides his bike.

Back when rap was only allowed on white people radio if it was a max 8 bars in the middle of a song.

“I’m serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer.”
Have a single of this on my wall with I’ve Got The Power on the b-side.
Love the graphics in this video, they are so early 90s CG. IIRC Electronic the band saw it and got the same person for this video:

These songs were considered cheesy but if your going out and they were playing this song, it was good times.
