Hello sysadmins ,
i'm confused which one to choose between these to monitor an network components, (nagios core, checkmk, pandora fms , zabbix, if there is some else suggest it )
i am now in a internship of one mounth and they gave me a project of monitoring and i am thinking about zabbix, but guys tell me your experience in monitoring knowing that it is not just network components that i need to monitor but also servers , cameras ...., i searched about others like paid ones but i dont know if the company that will be in charge of payment or me.
what do u think guys .
thank u in advance

You can start with checkmk community edition which is free and can monitor all types of devices and systems (printers, routers, camera, access points, switches, etc.) and servers (windows, linux, aix, solaris).
You have more than 3000 default plugins that can be deployed, communication is secure and single agent for a system, single call.
You should look for a single monitoring solution that can integrate and monitor all you have in the scope.
In the past we used nagios xi but when checkmk become availble more than 10 years ago we started using and become parteners.

Another marketing account that mentions checkmk in nearly all their comments everywhere they post

Don’t overthink it for a short internship. If you want something solid and widely used, sure you can go with Zabbix. It handles servers, network, cameras, and gives you a good all-in-one view.
imo, If you want something easier to get running quickly, checkmk is often simpler to set up and understand, auto discovery, built in special agents, cant really complain in terms of user friendliness in particular. the others are fine, but these two are the most practical choices.
in your case i would just...pick one, get it working well, and focus on showing results rather than comparing tools endlessly, i might be biased, but i find checkmk partiuclarly recommendable.

You have almost no comments that don’t mention checkmk in some way. If you’re doing promotion here, you should disclose it.

No one is handing over a project to source a monitoring tool to a one month intern. Be for real.

Check_MK is the way to go. Been using it for about two years now mainly to monitor SNMP pings for outages at remote locations, but you can get really granular with what you want to monitor. It is free up to a certain number of sensors, somewhere between 600-700 sensors, I think.

yeah i searched a lot about it i think it's good but what is the main diff between it and zabbix and like which one is better
chickibumbum_byomde@reddit
Yeah, that’s pretty much why checkmk gets recommended a lot, it scales from simple SNMP checks to full infra visibility without getting too heavy, and the free tier is usually enough for small to mid setups.
