Which words do you think are overused in the US? off the top of my head I can mention: 1) "Weird" 2) "Literally" 3) "Cool" 4) "Like".
What other words can you think of?

I don’t do TikTok/reels/instaface or whatever other please y’all watch videos… but my wife loves that shit.
I hear the word “Obsessed” dozens of times a day now… literally.

I'd be happy if I never heard a zoomer say "diabolical" again

Not long ago I had someone tell me, “Coffee with diner food? Diabolical.” I was extremely confused.

The gap between 1975 and 2000 is smaller than gap between 2000 and today. The show goes on.

Scam. Just because something is expensive or you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s a scam.

No Problem. That's two.

I once tried to explain what this word means and why people use it so much to a co-worker who speaks English as a second language. I couldn't do it.
anneofgraygardens@reddit
literally
lolwatokay@reddit
“I mean…” at the start of many statements is one you can’t unhear in yourself or others once you know to listen for it

Awesome
suzemagooey@reddit
Yep, this is THE one and it frequently lands on something not inspiring anything like awe too. It is as if the actual meaning has been lost.

That world doesn't mean what most people think it means.

At least in somewhat serious policy discussions: existential.

They have no idea what it really means, but it has essentially replaced calling someone an asshole.

-Do your own research to people who have no idea how to do actual research beyond Googling nonsense or what a legitimate source looks like.
-Great meaning good ignoring it's more appropriate usage in the context if The Great Depression, The Great War, or The Great Gatsby.
Five_Slow@reddit
Ope sorry
Kyauphie@reddit
Do your own research.

"Exponential". A lot of people use it to mean "big". It's got a precise mathematical definition having to do with how fast something grows. Ironically, whatever a person's describing is often small compared to real exponential growth.
LeSkootch@reddit
Online it's "diabolical."
In real life I hear "yeah, no" or "no, yeah" constantly and for whatever reason it drives me bonkers. The classic "like" inserted everywhere is a big one. And "you know" added at the end of every sentence. There are a bunch.

Superlatives in general I think. There is a tendency toward overstatement.
