New driver here I went over my 14 by a few seconds

Had a tire blow out which set me back 4 hours so I was running behind then one thing after another kept setting me back even longer. But long story short I pulled back into the yard with a few minutes to spare and put myself on yard move hoping it would somehow save me and I dropped my trailer and found a spot to park the truck and I was literally like 6 seconds over. Do I just tell dispatcher in the morning or what?

Didn’t log sleeper?

Next time fuck the yard move, go off duty and eld crawl of shame

DOT is on their way to your location right now OP :(
TaperingRanger9@reddit
Bruh I've had several HOS violations throughout my career. You're good unless your company is super anal about it or a DOT officer asks for your logs. If either situation occurs just explain what happened. I believe there's also exemptions for situations like this. Call your dispatcher and ask.
TaperingRanger9@reddit
Also next time u make it back to the yard last minute just go off duty and log out of the tablet lmao. Then if it detected movement don't claim the logs. You can also do this trick if you're a couple minutes away. Saved my ass a few times.
CrashingTiger@reddit
that's an extremely bad idea. falsifying logs will put you in much worse hot water than just going over your service hours by a small amount.
TaperingRanger9@reddit
Okay maybe the second part isnt a good idea. But the first one is. If he's already at the yard then the ELD should already have his location so he's good to shut it down there. They'd have no way of knowing he was moving around the yard and not stationary. The other option is to go 4 mph off duty until parked.
CrashingTiger@reddit
No, it's still a bad idea. I'm not claiming to know about all ELD systems out there, but for the ones i've used, the tablet isn't what connects to the tractor. There will be a separate module that connects to the tractor and that is always on. The tablet is just an interface to that module. Turning the tablet off does nothing. The module will still keep logging. You claiming logs as not yours still leaves them open and visible for all to see. Anybody with two brain cells to rub together will connect those dots based on the timestamps.
TaperingRanger9@reddit
I've done it several times and nothing ever happened. Beats parking on the shoulder or a violation and getting in trouble with your company. If you make it to the yard and go off duty literally nothing is gonna happen, I promise OP
CrashingTiger@reddit
Works great until it doesn't. Good luck, driver!
TaperingRanger9@reddit
Are you using geotab? I've never had an issue with geotab in regards to this but ig other systems could be different
Correct_Writer_3410@reddit
If your company has a goof safety department this is a good way to get fired on the spot
StonedTrucker@reddit
I wouldnt make this a habit. Falsifying logs is a pretty good ticket and a,lot of companies will fire you over it
7thDaydream@reddit
Literally went like 45 mins over one day during my first week bc i could not find parking and everything was going wrong that day. I was FREAKING out and ended up not even got a call from safety.
Obviously don’t make it a regular thing yeah.
EnvironmentalYam2058@reddit
You can go over 14 hours as long as it’s not logged as drive line. On duty and Yard move are not drive line. So my company makes us log a minimum of 10 minutes post trip inspection so it’s not uncommon when I’m delivering to the yard that by the time I drop trailer and drive over to bobtail parking I end up after my post trip being in negative time by a few minutes. But it’s not a DOT Violation because it’s logged in the On Duty line not the Drive line.
xoutlawtrucker@reddit
If you are allowed to edit your on dury/off duty you can also cut one minute off your PTI .Just start your PTI one minute later and the violation should drop off.
papisilla@reddit
Or add in a randomly off duty "bathroom" and say you were taking a dump

Oh ok makes sense. Thank you

U all good on my second day solo I went over my 11 & 14 by 3-4 hours I was on I-40 and every truck stop and rest area was full and wasn’t allowed to park on shoulders or off Ramps it was bad
7thDaydream@reddit
First week is so terrifying 😭 I had something similar happen and was freaking out trying to find parking.
Whitehoneybun666@reddit
Luckily knight didn’t say anything about going over your hos but when I worked for cr England if u go over by a couple seconds they put u on a driver hold
justdan76@reddit
You’re cooked, someone is on the way for the keys.
Environmental-Pear40@reddit
You can go over your 14 with the yard move or on duty. Just can't drive. That is a 14-hour window in which you can drive there is no limit for how long you can be on duty.
IgnoringHisAge@reddit
Minor HOS violation. It’s fine. It’ll disappear in a week and you carry on.
Waisted-Desert@reddit
Nobody cares.
Really.
Nobody cares unless you create a habit of going over every day or every few days. Particularly if you go over on the same routes every day or every week. That's a lack of planning and a willful disregard for the HOS. But if you go over once in a great while...
Nobody cares.

You can do anything you want after your 14, except drive on a public road.
unclenatelovestrains@reddit
The way I understood best when new is you cannot DRIVE when your 14 and 11 hours are up. On duty is not driving. Yard move is a category of on duty so it isn't driving (which to me seems slightly silly). The on duty time will still count towards your 70 total.
Also if you had a blown tire and were off duty 4 hours you're completely fine under the split break rule. Think of anything over 2 hours in off duty or sleeper (not on duty at all) as a pause in that 14 hour clock. So example- you start at 5 am and drive until 7 am when your tire blows. It takes 4 hours which is now 11 am. Under the 14 you can drive until 7 pm, but with the split break you can now drive until 11 pm. Just be sure to look at how much time you were off duty and write down when your new 14 is up, and you can still only drive 11 hours total. This rule is very helpful for these exact situations.
AdagioEducational124@reddit
Just a heads up man. DOT can suspend your license, you pay a big fine, and your carrier takes a hit if you go over.
Nero-Danteson@reddit
My brother in Christ, they're not going to throw the book at him over a handful of seconds. As long as it's not multiple hours you're golden. The only reason OP would have an issue is if they're in an accident because lawyers are looking at it you twitched your nose left instead of right, had blue underwear on instead of the pink thong and didn't comb your hair that morning.
Early_Club_9762@reddit
Simply put details in the status update and your golden. Dot understands things happen, most of them are about safty not anal retention.
Knarknarknarknar@reddit
Yard moves can be edited to off duty.
jmzstl@reddit
It’s not a violation to be on duty (including yard moves) when you go over your 14. It’s only a violation if you go back to the drive line before completing your break.
