Hit an animal for the first time as a driver

Been driving a year, tonight was the first time I've hit an animal in a commercial vehicle.
Had zero reaction time. Coyote. I was in the right lane, and with it being night, I couldn't even see lil dude in the left lane. He was probably only 5 ft from the front of the truck when he became visible
it's particularly hard because one of the cons in my pro/con list of getting my CDL was hitting animals. I'm a huge animal lover and my girlfriend is going to school to get into wildlife conservation. Both of us plan on animal rescue and rehab eventually. Always wanted pet ravens, snakes and skunks (you can de-stinkify them and it's harmless).
Retirement plan is to just have a shit ton of animals and teach anthropology and conservation at a university.
So yeah. I knew it would eventually happen but it doesn't make it suck any less. I just hope it was painless and instant.

Are you both women?

I have no idea why that even matters but no.

I didn't even get to read this because the moderator removed it. What the fuck did it say dude

Guess the commenter thinks only women can like and have empathy for animals cause they asked if we were both women

that's weird but I was actually referring to the original big main post you wrote here. I literally clicked on it as it was being removed I think because I didn't get to see any of it. in any case, sorry you hit an animal

Ahh my bad. It was just me talking abt what happened. Hit a coyote. It ran across the rd and since it's night, I couldn't even see it in the left lane and when I did see it it was 5 ft in front of me.
The rest was just me explaining that I'm a big animal lover and that part of my pro/con list to get my CDL was knowing I'd eventually hit an animal. My career isn't going to be truck driving, I just graduated HS and got kicked out during COVID and was seriously struggling to get on my feet financially. Needed a trade to get me some savings and some stability. Will probably end up doing cultural anthropology with emphasis on botany and biology
My girlfriend is in school for biology and wants to get into wildlife conservation as well so it's just a big part of who we are. Shit like this certainly ain't fun

thanks for explaining. fyi in my opinion there are about 20 reasons to leave trucking in addition to what you mentioned lol
no idea why your post got deleted. I swear, Reddit is such a piece of shit. good luck

It was just a joke, why are you being so sensitive?
backtosleepplz@reddit (OP)
Probably bc I'm already having a shitty day and you're just being weird
AsphaltPirate74@reddit
Chill, it's just a joke lol

That's unfortunate. I've had some close calls with larger animals, but the largest thing I've ever hit was a bird. Kill a fuckton of bugs every year though. It is what it is. 🤷🏻♀️
