chilibee@reddit
Is this in the Bay Area?
urmyfavoritecustomer@reddit
I saw a similar one in the bay area a while back. It had a bumper sticker that said NO AIRBAGS. WE DIE LIKE MEN lol
chilibee@reddit
I probably saw the same one. This guy would surf in Marin and have his bulldog sit in the drivers seat to stand guard. It was pretty rad.
Everything_Hurts_Man@reddit (OP)
No, sorry. Washington, but I can’t remember specifically where I saw it. I just thought it was cool, never seen one before!
Beni_Stingray@reddit
Such a cool thing but you never want to have a crash with these, super dangerous:
VW T3 Crashtest
Bubsy7979@reddit
I don’t understand why car manufacturers don’t build utilitarian cars like this anymore? This looks like a contractors dream!
Th3_Wolflord@reddit
VW to this day builds the exact same thing based on the T7
IJzer3Draad@reddit
They do. Just not for your market.
Czeslaw_Meyer@reddit
I love these
Born_ina_snowbank@reddit
I saw one of these in South Carolina and almost broke my neck trying to get a better look of it.
blither@reddit
The T2 Doppelkabine (aka Doka), is based on earlier double cabs that VW made. I prefer the earlier split window double cabs.
AdjunctFunktopus@reddit
*T3.
But they did do this style with the T2 also. (And the T4,5 & 6 apparently).
radiorental1@reddit
"Type 2" or "T3" and to make matters worse, for some reason in the UK these are known as T25's

jj999125@reddit
Doka is also used for unimog four doors. Basically a shortening of the German word for double cab.
Its fun to use on people who've only known American truck standards when talking about German trucks
CreepyCrawlerRC@reddit
Would make a super sick scale RC body model.
I like it.
VestigeOfVast@reddit
These were sold officially in Canada (they also got the Eurovan panel van and doka and later on) but I think this is a Syncro Doka by the square headlights, which wasn’t sold in north america at all.
michal_hanu_la@reddit
It does indeed have a Doppelkabine.

Ka1Ser84@reddit
A neighbor is driving a similar one every day. Also orange. but with a cap. In very good condotion. (germany)
Hailfire9@reddit
So he turned his van-truck back into a van? Am I insane for missing the purpose here?
Ka1Ser84@reddit
As far as I know, they can be removed very easily. This offers flexible transportation options. There are also similar setups like living tents... similar to the pickup trucks you know from the USA.
birgor@reddit
These where really common back in the days.
ImpossibleJob5788@reddit
This concept is dope as hell but I would be waaaay more interested in a Mitsu-based version.
Everything_Hurts_Man@reddit (OP)
Eh, I like it as is. I think the Westfallia facia works well on it. Honestly if this was olive drab I would have assumed it was an old military vehicle or something.
ImpossibleJob5788@reddit
It's not about looks. Anybody who tells you they'd take that VW over a turbo diesel AWD Delica is tripping.
SoonToBeBanned24@reddit
Guess what? You can find a doka with a turbo diesel, too!
ImpossibleJob5788@reddit
Of course. I've had really poor experiences with two different generations of VW's vans, whereas I owned a sterling Delica once. It's just subjective experience.
SoonToBeBanned24@reddit
I've owned four T3 vans (Vanagon). They are my favorite vehicle.
Delicas are nice too, but I've never owned one.
Kidcharlamagne89d@reddit
I'd buy one of those new today if it had a manual transmission, 4wd and either a weak diesel or the Toyota 2.7. No infotainment system, just cruise control and ac in a plastic and fabric paradise of slow utility.
DeltaV-Mzero@reddit
These bogo like things are so much fun.
Din_Plug@reddit
They did this style with the first gen VW vans too
Everything_Hurts_Man@reddit (OP)
Sweet, man. I‘glad have to see if I can find a photo online. Kind of reminds me of the old Ford Econoline vans and Chevy Corvair Vans that came with pick up beds, but done better with the full cab.
Din_Plug@reddit
This one is a second gen model, but I don't want to dig through my Pinterest to find a first gen.
Gold_Guava_5574@reddit
I love it, I want it. Now we could do this the easy way... Or the hard way
Specialist-Neck-7810@reddit
That thing is awesome.
Ok, I know it’s actually not called a “Thing”, which is an entirely different VW vehicle.
Dobalina_Wont_Quit@reddit
Gods it's perfect
Everything_Hurts_Man@reddit (OP)
It really is, man. I didn’t want to creep on some poor dudes car too much, so I just took the one photo. It’s really a cool truck.
