Considering upgrading card, what to get?

I’m a dad of two little ones, who loves to game but I get limited time these days.
Back in 2021 I built my first pc with an i7 10700k and a 3070.
Starting to consider upgrading the gpu, what’s the highest card I could go to while on that same cpu?
TyRawr64@reddit
Now isn't the best time to upgrade, everything is higher than msrp

Good to know, still I’d like to figure out what card might be a good upgrade so I can just keep an eye on them
SuspiciousArt7316@reddit
9070xt is your best bang for buck.
Ritvik158@reddit
5070 Ti or 9070XT would be the best in my opinion. Not gonna completely blow the bank up but no slouches either
Duckdxd@reddit
I went from a 5800x/3070 to a 9800x3d/5070ti and I’m very happy with the upgrade. It runs 1440p+ much better.
aragorn18@reddit
The 3070 is still a decent GPU. Getting something significantly faster won't be cheap.
What's your budget and location?
mkamp02@reddit (OP)
Budget isn’t really an issue, but would be nice to see a noticeable upgrade if I am going to spend a good chunk. I’m in mn
aragorn18@reddit
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is about 80% faster and won't be significantly bottlenecked by your CPU at 1440p or higher.

Got the Red Devil edition. One of the best gpus I've ever owned.

THIS. And I was an NVIDIA fan boy
Hmmm71-8@reddit
What is your power supply wattage
mkamp02@reddit (OP)
80 plus gold fully modular
blitzkrieg_01@reddit
They meant the wattage so it should be something like 750w, 600w, etc. 80+ gold refers to the efficiency rather than the wattage.
mkamp02@reddit (OP)
Whoops thank you. 850
Hmmm71-8@reddit
An rtx 5070 would be a decent upgrade
AceLamina@reddit
I'm actually looking into getting a 5070, my CPU is a i7 12700k with the same GPU as him, but I have a 2070 super
Wonder how much faster it'll be though
Hmmm71-8@reddit
It would be a decent upgrade for the most part getting a nice vram boost and all
AceLamina@reddit
Alright, thanks

Need resalution and budget to make a meaningful recomendation.
Kvothe31415@reddit
I went with a 5070 from my 3070, it’s been great. Got it before prices went up for $500 though. Couldn’t justify spending more for a 9070xt or a 5070ti.
Get whatever GPU you can comfortably afford, carry it over into a new machine in a couple years and toss the 3070 in the old machine again for your kids.
masonoli@reddit
I had the same setup and just upgraded to a 9800x3d and 5070ti. It's amazing.
TryllahG@reddit
5090 is the best GPU you can get while still on the same CPU. Will your processor bottleneck the GPU?… most likely yes. Is it still the best GPU?… also yes. The severity of the bottleneck will entirely depend on your monitors resolution and the games you’re playing. Playing 4k will have almost no bottleneck. 1440p will hold back a 5090 by about 15% and 1080 will have about a 30% bottleneck. You need to specify which games, what resolution and the price range you want to spend for anyone to adequately suggest the best GPU for you.
The_Hanumaniac@reddit
This is the answer. The way to go so you never have to build the whole system is stagger the upgrades. Like he said if you are playing 4k you won't even notice the bottleneck but the performance difference will be insane from a 5090. Then when everything normalizes again you can eye a new CPU and mobo. Those new Intel chips with the BLLC (Big Last Level Cache) to compete with x3D chips look interesting
mkamp02@reddit (OP)
Appreciate that response. I have a 5k2k uw and I play a bit of everything. Cs, apex for shooters, AAA games like cyberpunk, Elden ring, crimson desert etc
Smarmy82@reddit
What resolution do you play at? It might make more sense to change platforms first and go to a 270k Plus if you want to stay with Intel or go AM5 and get a 9800X3D. If you live near a microcenter you take advantage of their RAM pricing on a bundle.
No_Spare1827@reddit
well the most I would put on an 11700K is probably a 5070 if u are staying Nvidia and a 9070 if u go AMD
champagne780@reddit
9070 XT is a great GPU.
TopExplanation138@reddit
If you got a 750W psu and play at 1080p then a rx 9070 will crush even the most demanding AAA games, even at 1440p itll maintain high frame rates in most games.
Adventurous_Roll3108@reddit
I upgraded to a 9070 XT with the same i7 and have loved it. Miss the EVGA 3070 as it was a pretty card but the 9070 has made a massive difference in performance.
