To expand on the canti thing, today you still see v brakes on cheaper mountain bikes because they are cheaper than disc. The same just isn't true for v brakes vs canti probably for at least the past 10 years. There's just no money to be saved by manufacturing them, they're not cheaper, they work worse and are much harder to adjust, v brakes can still be made extremely cheaply and by comparison a cheap pair of v brakes works extremely well.

The exception is drop bar bikes like for touring or cyclocross. I think they still sell bikes with canti brakes for those purposes, but that's a much higher end market and the canti brakes on those types of bikes are much higher end. And the reason they still use them is because v brakes require a different type of long pull lever, and drop bar integrated shift/brake levers are a little more complex and mostly made for short pull road caliper brakes, so they don't really make long pull road brake levers that would work with v brakes. But even that specific use case is disappearing with hydraulic disc road levers and mechanical short pull road disc calipers.

All that to say, in a decade or 2 canti brakes will go the way if the spoon brake, rod brake etc. you will be hard pressed to find a bike that ships with canti brakes, and they will only be manufactured for replacements and vintage purists.

I don't know why I keep making exhaustive posts like this on /ebike. But I guess on the off chance that someone read through this and learned something, feel free to shoot me an upvote.

Yeah man, I feel old too. Vintage road bikes go up to like '90 though, I think because that's when there was a big shift from steel to aluminum frames, and vintage mountain bikes are even newer because it took longer for disc brakes to become standard.

It's particularly old school of this bike to have canti and not v brakes though, that places it more in the 90s than 2000s
