Colt M4. I like my eardrums.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Shotgun of course. I will never understand how firearms specifically designed for close quarters shootouts in confined spaces like shotguns and subguns have somehow been usurped by rifles.
mastrait48@reddit
1) Body armor 2) capability (can do much more than CQB, speed in every facet, NVG compatible, accuracy, ammo you can carry on you). 3) capacity (4 perps and you miss once youāre stuck reloading a shitty mechanism, drawn out fight and āā)
If fight goes further than the room youāre in, you want the best tool in your hands
Hell, Iād take the right handgun over a shotgun.
SiegfriedArmory@reddit
I'm not John Wick, nobody is sending a kill squad to my house
mastrait48@reddit
My response is to the questions posed in the comment āhow did guns designed for CQB get usurped by riflesā. Iām simply pointing out that I think these capabilities are the RCA.
I donāt mean to say āeveryone should be training to fight John Wicks opponentsā.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
Body armor? Night vision? A whole squad of dudes?
Brother who are your ops? That aināt home burglars thatās a SWAT team. Aināt no burglars wearing battle rattle and they sure as shit aināt gonna see two of their homies get their shit blown smooth off and say ānah Iām still coming for that TVā
itsyaboyivan@reddit
got a good chuckle out of this
mastrait48@reddit
Denying the Swiss Army knife aspect of an AR vs a shotgun is silly. Thatās not what weāre talking about, right? Its capabilities on a general battlefield far exceed any shotgun. If you have one weapon to take to battle, the choice is obvious.
My point is that the Swiss Army knife has outweighed the sledge hammer, resulting in the diminishing use of the later. I canāt carry two, so I prepare one.
If you think the speed of an AR and shotgun are comparable, youāre either a USPSA champ or donāt know what youāre talking about.
As far as training with/for NVG use, with a suppressor, or with/against body armor - what is the issue here? Sounds like one group is training for defense against home intruders and the other is training forā¦something else entirely.
bl0odredsandman@reddit
Dude, we aren't in a John Wick movie. You aren't going to have a group of NVG wearing, armored up guys storming your house unless it's the cops or the feds. Even if you do, most modern AR500 or ceramic body armor will stop 5.56 easy anyways so the armor debate is kinda useless. You're just going to have to do the same thing you'd do with a shotgun anyways and aim for the appendages or head.
Shotguns ARE the Swiss army knives of firearms. I get that rifles and shotguns are two completely different categories, but at least right now rifles still aren't as versatile as a shotgun is. Rifles are more like a very nice Samurai sword.
Useful-Ad-2274@reddit
The whole post is about home defense not fighting in a war. Idk why youāre talking about any of this.
mastrait48@reddit
My response was to a comment about āwhy shotguns had been usurped by weapons not designed specifically for CQBā - all of these things details my thought process behind why that happened.
wiscopunk@reddit
Capacity in a high stress situation is really the only benefit. Speed and compactness is still available in shotguns but you are admittedly further limiting capacity. Not hard to set a shotgun up with an IR laser for nvg and there's an abundance of options for keeping some quick reload rounds on you (like the what op has pictured). Also, anything that is gonna stop a 1oz slug is also gonna stop a 5.56 in which case I personally would rather shatter their whole sternum rather than knock the wind out of them. A rifle is amazing but I can't think of any reason a common home invasion would involve a crew rolling more than three deep with body armor, high capacity rifles, expert stacking, and special forces level maneuvering of an unfamiliar environment.
First-Ad-7855@reddit
Largely because a rifle isn't bad in CQB, and is a lot better at range. It's versatile.
PictureElegant3033@reddit
Shotgun.

TouchMyPlumbus@reddit
Righteous_Mushroom@reddit
300 blk better trajectory/BC and range than 45 and same/better effectiveness depending on range
Additional-Tackle-76@reddit
I mean depending on the loading but the pros of .45 could be that all ammo is subsonic, ammo is generally cheaper & available, and I already stockpile .45. I also only have a max range in my house of 20-25 yards.
So for me it makes more sense than 300 BO. Plus the Stribog is just so cool lol.
Righteous_Mushroom@reddit
All valid points. I do think 45 is underrated for sub guns.
Additional-Tackle-76@reddit
Tell me about it. It was tricky because 9mm is everywhere. I wanted a .45 scorpion cause I love CZ but thatās when I discovered Stribog. Basically a better UMP. My MW2 dream gun lol
Righteous_Mushroom@reddit
They do look cool, but ya probably twice the price to shoot compared to 9mm. And now with FRTs... subguns just made a huge comeback for the civilian folk

100% the Benelli; shotguns in CQB just work better and the M4 is much more maneuverable and I dont have to worry about overpen with the AR.
Bubbabeast91@reddit
The rifle, partly because I'm not familiar with that specific shotgun, but very familiar with an AR, partly because I'm barely proficient with shotguns in general, and partly because the AR is a good choice anyway, though I'm not a fan of the ACOG if I'm being honest.
Real-Swimmer-579@reddit
Benelli. No questions asked. The Colt is just too long with that suppresor. The noise is gonna suck but so is not being alive. I can deal with a tenitus flair up

Colt for bandits, Benelli for robot dogs

stonecutter5258@reddit
Definitely the shotgun. I live in a manufactured home. But commenting on Regarded Caveman's loads... He says rocksalt and garlic. I would change one ingredient... instead of garlic i would use strips of bacon rind. Rock salt will penetrate skin and hurt like hell but the bacon rind will start to cook, boiling the fat due to air friction. When it hits skin ... first and second degree burns. I KNOW... it's not legal ... but its still interesting to think aboutššš
patty_OFurniture306@reddit
Shotgun low risk of over pen, more terrifying sound esp if you go with a pump over semi. It's your house so you can train to clear with the longer weapon easily and likely a low need for long range shots. Even then make sure you have a full chime and you'll reach out to any normal house distance

Shotgun less likely to get you convicted, normies are still scared of rifles.
LilMsPopKornMan234@reddit
People down voting really don't think about the after effects when it comes to home defense. The jury no matter how much you wanna think otherwise will judge you based upon the weapon you use. They may be your peers but your peers are stupid. Pistols and hunting shotguns (has wood of some sorts) will always look better to the everyday man then the "big scary rifle" mass shooters use.
ILikeScrapple@reddit
Not grabbing a rifle for inside the house
LilJonny2cookies@reddit
I will either use full auto m16 10.3 with huxwrx or transferable MP5SD. Benelli is perfectly fine but I want the potential for lots of trigger pulls if necessary. Probably not but overkill is not a thing when defending the home.

shotgun with light magnum slugs or low recoil 00 buck. Most people shot in the right place with those shotgun loads go direct to the morgue. Granted the right 5.56 bullet to center mass is also incredibly lethal, but Clint Smith had this to say on the matter

Cdwollan@reddit

Snowbold@reddit
In the house? Benelli.
On the property? Colt.
The length of the arms along with magnified optic are what makes me lean to this decision. Although, the sound will suck for double ought buck and slug rounds indoors.
PoundHerSweetly@reddit

People in here keep thinking they are going up against the Russian Spec Forces for a half baked, cracked out home intruder trying to steal your jewlery.
No you wont ever be shooting an enemy force in body armor trying to enter your home. And IF you ever were in that situation youre already dead. You vs a team of well armed and trained and body armored men wont end well for you. You arent John Wick. Stop acting like you are.
With that said, shotguns are and will always be the superior choice for CQC or anything needed to be done inside the confines of a home.
If I hear someone outside fucking around on my property than a rifle is the obvious choice. But for inside the home the 12ga will always be superior.

marksman1023@reddit
I have both.
When I lived close to a shotgun range, the Benelli.
I no longer live close to a range that permits shotguns and also isn't a skeet and trap range so I used to use the Colt.
Then I got a SIG MPX when the Army moved me an hour from the nearest range you could shoot a rifle at. And it's so short and handy and cheap to train with I use that now.
wiscopunk@reddit

King-Twonk@reddit
Benelli for sure. Donāt get me wrong; I do like me a AR, but putting rounds through the target and potentially through the wall behind? That feels like a WAY too much collateral damage risk.
I do subscribe to the argument that the best home defence is the weapon you have to hand, so will probably be my P99 or Custom II, but planned ahead? The shotty wins the argument.
AdeptusKapekus2025@reddit
Assuming your are using the normie 55g NATO bullet, 5.56 surprisingly doesn't penetrate much.
