What kind of average wear and tear can I expect?

I know this is going to depend on so many unpredictable factors and no one can know exactly what will happen or how soon a part will wear out. However, due to Reasons I’m having to make a guess at how much I’ll be spending on car repairs over the next 5 years. I’m not looking for obscure, one in a million chances. I’m thinking more like how often I can expect belts and hoses to wear out, how often I might need shocks, etc. Like, if you bought my car tomorrow and planned to keep it at least 5 years, what would you be expecting to have to deal with during that time?
Pertinent details:
- 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL hybrid
- \~37k miles, although I’m now driving less and anticipate closer to 10k miles per year
- Majority of my miles are in town
- I purchased it new in Sept 2023 and have had 4 oil changes so far (5th coming up soon)
- New tires & lifetime alignment a couple months ago
- I have otherwise not done anything to it mechanically
- Where I live doesn’t get ice/snow more than once or twice a year for a couple days at a time so salt is not a major factor
Here is what I’ve come up with so far based on manufacturer’s schedule plus Google:
- Oil changes 2x yearly
- Tire rotation 2x yearly
- Climate control air filter yearly
- Air cleaner filter \~3x
- Replace brake fluid \~2x
- Replace HSG belt once
- Replace spark plugs \~2x
- Replace brake pads \~2x
- Replace brake rotors once
- Replace tires \~2x
What am I missing?

Hyundai? Lots. That’s why they have that warranty, though. 🤷🏼♂️

It’s my third Hyundai. They’ve been great for me. 🤷🏻♀️

The exception that proves the rule. Always a few come in with those stories.

If you actually follow that schedule properly, your car will probably do 150K miles easy before hoses or plastics start cracking due to age rather than mileage. Suspension might start weakening or collapsing.
Water pump, alternator and serpentine belt night need replacement as well.

Is there anything I should think about along the lines of doing multiple things at the same time to save on labor? I can’t think of a specific example right now but I know it’s a thing to suggest “oh, you might as well do y at the same time as x because it’s right there and most of the cost is labor.”

Water pump and serpentine belt at the same time would save labor on the belt at least for the Lexus GS350. Wait for the water pump to start rattling first.

I do intend to follow it as closely as my circumstances allow. I’ll look up costs for those 3 things in my area. Thank you!
