jchizzy88@reddit
In my opinion, pizza without some type of sauce can’t be called pizza. We call that flatbread.
Theperfectool@reddit
I paid for pizza and got flatbread at the brewery here. When I inquired about the lack of sauce they claimed that the roasted garlic was the sauce. Then they charged me extra for a tiny ass side of marinara. Almost everything here misses the mark by some degree.
HikariSakai@reddit
I'd have declined and asked for a refund lol
Theperfectool@reddit
I’m less confrontational. I’ll just tell this story every time they come up and never visit again
MustyLlamaFart@reddit
Getting food at brewery's is usually a scam unfortunately. Seems like everytime there's a food truck they're usually charging $20 for not a lot of food, and of course there's a tip option. Sometimes you get lucky and they're reasonable but I usually just bring my own food these days
Theperfectool@reddit
I’m just recently from the home of Sierra Nevada and its flagship brewery. They serve expensive but great food there.
jchizzy88@reddit
That’s actually a crime in 69 states.
Zakblank@reddit
Pizza was invented thousands of years before the tomato ever came to Europe though...
TKG_Actual@reddit
And that was called Focaccia probably.
Dounce1@reddit
And condoms were invented thousands of years before latex but you’re not still wrapping your dick in rotting fish skin are you?
SaoirseMayes@reddit
And they used olive oil as the sauce, what's your point?
Leroy_Jenkins24@reddit
Ok?
the_ammar@reddit
pizza is a flat bread
The_Poster_Nutbag@reddit
Exactly, it's like how all squares are rectangles.
luseferr@reddit
Bust squares and rectangles are also not flatbread... They're shapes.
ScrltHrth@reddit
You sound like someone with a favorite flavor crayon
luseferr@reddit
Not really. Surprisingly, they all taste the same pretty much.
Charming-Package6905@reddit
Some brands taste more waxy than others though
luseferr@reddit
Well, yeah. But why would you eat anything other than Crayola? That sounds silly.
RecalcitrantHuman@reddit
Crayon snob.
luseferr@reddit
I bet you eat CraZart crayons with your pinky out 🤣🤣🤣
It's OK to have standards, ya know.
Wobuffets@reddit
Own-Detective-802@reddit
It’s like how a circle is a shape, but a shape is not necessarily a circle.
luseferr@reddit
Like, pizzas are open faced sandwiches, but not all open faces sandwiches are pizzas, and just because open faced sandwiches have flat bread doesn't mean they are flatbreads?
Own-Detective-802@reddit
Yea that’s right! 😀
luseferr@reddit
🤯🤯🤯🤯
Own-Detective-802@reddit
But flat breads are not a pizza
Kiaz33@reddit
But what about when flatbreads have sauces on them? Are all pizzas just a subcategory of flatbreads that have sauce on them? Cause I've had flatbreads that are functionally just pizzas but aren't circle shaped.
jchizzy88@reddit
Flatbreads that are functionally pizzas but not circle shaped are still pizzas in my eyes.
Sicilians and Detroit style pizzas are square/rectangular in shape but still pizzas.
The shape doesn’t define if it’s a pizza or not - if the flatbread was baked with sauce, that should be called a pizza.
theangryjanitorOG@reddit
Tortillas are flat bread. Do I have to call my quesadilla a pizza? What about my soft taco? If I roll up a pizza is it a taco?
nothanks86@reddit
It’s a flatbread pizza. Otherwise, there’s going to be some crustal disappointment.
The_Poster_Nutbag@reddit
I got destroyed for saying as much in the Chicago food sub. Of all the places you'd think to have that opinion.
Anubis-Hound@reddit
:(
ckouf96@reddit
Yes. Drives me insane when people order pizza with no sauce. It should be illegal.
Bread. You want bread. I’d respect you more if you said that instead of calling it a pizza
AlexxMaverick666@reddit
That's naan
TKG_Actual@reddit
So what you're telling me is that someone made a ghetto-foccacia?
Hasd4@reddit
No, in Italy pizza without sauce has also a name, "Bianca". There's many kind of pizza bianca, because not all toppings are equally good with tomato sauce
UnhappyBrief6227@reddit
That’s just dough and barely any toppings. Not pizza
darklogic85@reddit
I don't think it has to have tomato sauce, but I do think it needs something. I even think it's possible to have a pizza without any sauce, kinda like a calzone, where they typically don't have sauce, but you have a cup of dipping sauce on the side. The pizza in the post sucks though. It needs more toppings, or more cheese, or sauce, or something. It's just way too plain.
There are a lot of different ways to make a pizza, especially if you're open minded to trying basically any type of topping on a pizza. Italians or traditionalists when it comes to pizzas might find a lot of toppings blasphemous, but in my opinion, it's a great platform and you can do a lot of creative things to make good food starting with a pizza crust.
donpuglisi@reddit
No, but it does need sauce... that is flat bread with some leaves and a sprinkling of cheese
Keyblader1412@reddit
No but it needs something to make it not dry as the Sahara lol even just a drizzle of olive oil.
OldFoolOldSkool@reddit
At first I didn’t even see the dough. I thought it was leaves abs cheese on a cutting board.
bananalingerie@reddit
It's the fucking squares that kill me
And the butter knife
LukaIncic@reddit
that’s a large baked dough with spinach
rdldr1@reddit
Left beef none pizza
hgeng22@reddit
Scrolled way too far to find this
OvechknFiresHeScores@reddit
No it doesn't but also what you made in that picture isn't even remotely "pizza"
aelliotr@reddit
My favorite pizza ever is Frank Pepe's white clam pie, so I don't think tomato sauce is required.
magniffin@reddit
As a linguine with white clam sauce fan, how have I never heard of this pie? Sounds delicious.
Mutts_Merlot@reddit
Hi, fellow Nutmegger (or honorary Nutmegger)! Agree that tomato sauce isn't necessary but moisture of some kind is preferable. At least Pepe's drizzles some olive oil.
aelliotr@reddit
Yeah some moisture is necessary for sure. I live in Western Mass but my family has a tradition of getting pizza in CT whenever possible.
Turbulent-Chef4164@reddit
Yes.
midwest_elder@reddit
no pizza is pretty open ended and vague, unless your a new yorker and know everything.
LeSkootch@reddit
I grew up in New Haven, Connecticut and the white clam pizza is one of the local specialities. No sauce on there. It's so fricken good. I miss New Haven pizza. It's simple. I think it's just got olive oil, parmesan, and parsley.
Sure_Lavishness_8353@reddit
That’s just a flatbread
tonyt0nychopper@reddit
Yes
celem83@reddit
No probably not
Theres a thing called 'Pizza Blanca' or white pizza, but its more of a focaccia/flatbread than just a pizza base minus the tomato. Its really nice though
NearbyPhilosophy8740@reddit
There is White Pizza Sauce, tbh I would consider this pizza lol
Select_Safe548@reddit
drahmus@reddit
no. you can substitute it with a cup of pineapple, few slices of pear and some dorblu cheese.
Alsweets0609@reddit
What needs is one gust of wind or a sneeze to turn that into flatbread 😂
thecrius@reddit
There is a variant called White Pizza which basically is without tomato sauce but you should at least have the melted cheese on it.
Dusty170@reddit
That's just some flat bread and some leaves my dude.
orblooper@reddit
After seeing this. I'd say yes.
Senor_Turd_Ferguson@reddit
None pizza left beef 2k26
balirosa@reddit
It needs some curry or tika masala or sumn
doodleysquat@reddit
Balsamic glaze and tomatoes could make it weird take on a caprese pizza?
Xarius86@reddit
Launchpad. Someone hasn't updated.
Sector_Black@reddit
No, but it needs to be more than bread with a few leaves on top
arthurdentstowels@reddit
Not necessarily. But this one fucking does.
AppUnwrapper1@reddit
That’s just bread
yveelik@reddit
That’s not pizza
kale_wine_stew_roast@reddit
No, I’m all about butter crust
poponachtschnecke@reddit
This could use a creamy garlic sauce.
jinjerbear@reddit
That’s a pita my man.
Various-Age-5792@reddit
Does a Bear shit in the Woods??? Huh does he??? Does he??? Huh huh huh huh??? Well?????????
Head-Bat-1054@reddit
Not if he lives in a zoo
Parking-Code-4159@reddit
Pizza yes. But there are other similar things like Flammkuchen without tomato sauce
a_angry_bunny@reddit
It needs sauce of some sort.
Josisdead@reddit
It looks like a flammkuchen not a pizza, either way looks disgusting😂😭
rietti@reddit
Well, it definitely needs "something"
Mammoth_Mixture4735@reddit
Nope. I worked at Dominos and id get no sauce cheddar blend with pepperoni and sausage then dip in ranch or mango habenero when im feeling spicy
tomax444@reddit
that's a flammkuchen
Dellgloom@reddit
Is the laptop just there for rage bait, because it's working.
Andromeda42@reddit
cracker with crumbs and leaves
Suitable-Fun-1087@reddit
No, white bases or pesto bases are fine for example. But you can't just sprinkle feta? On a base and call it a pizza
JustMyles1@reddit
Isn't fior Di latte just the cheese on the pizza? White sauce bases are usually bechamel sauce or a variation of that aren't they?
Potato_Kaelin@reddit
as long as you dye them red, that's the important part
mechshark@reddit
That’s a damn pita not no pizza
YumyRiceball@reddit
Might as well add more cheese and basil and roll it into a burrito and eat it.
drmoze@reddit
No, but it DOES need a visible amount of cheese, and some time in the oven.
Varvat0s@reddit
The sauce makes it a pizza. Don't gotta be tomato, I enjoy a garlic cream myself.
JustMeLurkingAround-@reddit
No tomato sauce is okay, but no sauce at all seems like a crime.
roadislong@reddit
I’ve had many pizzas in Italy with no sauce in them. Different toppings, cheeses, maybe olive oil, but no sauce. It’s extremely common. This is obviously not an example of that though lol
froggothegod@reddit
Mayonnaise time.
Reasonable_Diet7955@reddit
This is probably the type of person to make a "girl dinner" post
Theniceraccountmaybe@reddit
It needs more than that bullshit.
kilofeet@reddit
I think someone dropped your naan in the rake pile
Mike_Oxsmall_420@reddit
Just some bullshit with leafs
sporkachoon@reddit
r/pizzacrimes
Gutcheck21@reddit
Flat bread
ExcitementFederal563@reddit
Now this is peak shitty food
jonny_jon_jon@reddit
Pizza has been made with tomato sauce for only 400-500 years. Pizza was around well before tomatoes made it to europe
stocksandoptions2@reddit
This is a crime.
TacoManifesto@reddit
Yes
shFt_shiFty@reddit
Quite the amount of liquor there
West_Incident9552@reddit
Rage bait
hauttdawg13@reddit
Drizzle some olive oil on it ffs.
ColdPorkChop@reddit
No but it also can't be this
joppyb1399@reddit
Flaky-Collection-353@reddit
No, but it's much worse without it
Sophisticated-Crow@reddit
That's just bread with a few leaves on it. And I guess a few bits of cheese?
IvyEmblem@reddit
It needs *some* kind of sauce.
docobv77@reddit
Olive oil and Parmesan would've made a huge difference.
donkeyrocket@reddit
No but a flatbread with leaves isn’t a pizza if that’s what you’re asking.
Viking603@reddit
Nope. We use a roasted red pepper sauce.
jamatosoup@reddit
That’s a flatbread with basil and…feta???
anoftz@reddit
Not if you call it flatbread and charge an extra $6
mdjank@reddit
Salad on a bread plate to go with your soup in a bread bowl.
RunWild0_0@reddit
Alfredo sauce is way better. . .
ThatIckyGuy@reddit
Not necessarily, but it needs a sauce. I've had pizza with alfredo (which goes great with spinach and/or grilled chicken) and one with bbq sauce (goes good with onions and grilled chicken).
This is just a poorly made sandwich.
CRK_76@reddit
Enjoy your pita bread.
mailslot@reddit
Margherita pizzas don’t have sauce, just an olive oil drizzle on top of mozzarella & basil.
Palanki96@reddit
there are white sauce and other pizzas but yeah you need something to make it a pizza
otherwise you are just eating mid flatbread
Dependent_Pain1110@reddit
Yes
bacon-lettuce-tomat0@reddit
Gently warm minced garlic in olive oil. Drizzle before and/or after. To me, the crispiness of the crust is worth it alone.
DesignerCorner3322@reddit
It needs at least one sauce of some kind.
BuffaloFree8939@reddit
No this is what folks in the bizz call a white pizza. Is that feta cheese?
AsparagusOverall8454@reddit
That is not even close to a white pizza lol there’s no sauce even 🤣
TheGoldenCowTV@reddit
White pizza does not require sauce. The toppings on this one does look rather sad though
udumslut@reddit
Nah man, even white pizza needs SOME kind of sauce or something.
Honest-Reflection667@reddit
And some groceries
A0xom0xoa@reddit
Wait are you at a restaurant? What in the fuck did you order? That looks like shit. I thought for a sec. You just threw some garbage together at home cuz it outta ingredients and hungry. Goodness
Issyv00@reddit
It needs something.
Fun_Western164@reddit
No but it needs SOMETHING. That looks dry and unappetizing as hell.
AverageInfamous7050@reddit
Do people need water ?
ContingentMax@reddit
Looks like a very nice flatbread, without sauce I wouldn't call it pizza
haydnspire@reddit
Pizza has existed longer than tomato sauce, so you're good.
anon-accountD@reddit
Believe it or not, jail.
Jogi1811@reddit
From the picture it needs a little more love added to it
AdeptProductt@reddit
no but also cups don’t need liquor either
where_thefuck_i_am@reddit
It's not pizza, it's a lavash with lil' but of cottage cheese and random grass bullshit
demontwines@reddit
Saw a frozen pizza that had to label "NO cheese" being sold the other day so truly i think we can do whatever the fuck we want now and nothing matters anymore
Greaterdivinity@reddit
is that just some warmed up pita bread with basil and feta? that's not pizza lol
ChefAsstastic@reddit
asa1@reddit
This is just a giant cracker at this point.
johnaross1990@reddit
That’s an open faced sandwich, not a pizza
ashrich8992@reddit
Yes then it wouldn't be pizza!
LesbianSeagull911@reddit
We’re calling everything anything now, so yea sure why not? Excellent looking pizza there fella🤘
