In my early 20s (which was early 2000s), women would sometimes say I looked like Chris Martin from Coldplay. I soon discovered that any woman that said that, fancied me. Not saying the likeness was accurate, or that he’s good looking, or that he was cool, or that they said it in a way that sounded like a compliment. But I noticed a pattern and realised that this comment meant, subconsciously or not, that they were actively noticing me physically, that they were weighing me up in some way, that there was a compliment in there somewhere because to liken somebody to somebody else would otherwise be kinda rude. From that point on, any time a woman made the comparison, I would ask her out straight away and they always enthusiastically said yes. I think this happened maybe 5 times, the “…Chris Martin…” - “do you fancy going for a drink tonight?” - “yes!” thing. Just an observation that I found interesting at the time. I’d guess that it holds true for everyone, so if you get compared to any celebrity, congratulations, you’ve just pulled. These days nobody’s telling me I look like anyone, that’s for sure!
