Gonna bring my pet with me… tell me everything I should know!

Hello all. Recently I have no choice but to bring my dog OTR with me due to my home situation. Please let me know any tips you guys have for bringing your dog with you OTR. For example I just have questions like, what vacuum to use, what gear used to pick up poo, ETC. This will be a first for me, so excuse the broad question. I need all y’alls knowledge pls!

If youre going to be staying out for long periods (over a month) keep flea and tick meds with you keeps baby wipes or something like that for their feet theres oil, piss, hydraulic fluid and plenty if other mystery fluids in parking lots you wouldn't want in your bed much less them licking off theur feet

Make sure you get your dog every vax they need. Parvo, kennel cough and more are out there. Keep benadryl, vaseline and ace bandages, eye wash, a brush, wipes, two leashes, and teach them to not eat anything off the ground.

Arkansas I40 exit 56 (or close to it?) at the Love's. Park at the Love's go behind it otherwise known as East and there is a green walk that is paved, wide and not very crowded last time I used it. It's shady, so that means bugs in the summertime.....

The "dog parks" at a lot of the truck stops have fleas.

Dog shoes. We also wiped our dogs feet often. Parking lots are nasty nasty. Dog coat for winter. Biodegradable poo bags. WALKS. our dogs are there for us, make it worth it for them too. WALK EM. and treats

Keep in mind the dog walking around the piss soaked parking lot will then jump on your bed.

Yeah I thought about it. Will definitely get all our walks in as many rest areas as possible. But still gonna be cleaning her paws cuz ik them parking lots be VERY grimy

Try Earth Rated wipes instead of baby wipes. Much better for a dog's paws.

Yeah, I use baby wipes on his feet after a truckstop walk, but usually don't park at chains. Prefer places we can get out and play.

Dyson vac. Rugs. Baby wipes for feet. Towel. Large, bottom weighted dog bowls. Toys & balls. Independent truck stops are much better than chains. Really look into your route for cool places y'all can explore. You're gonna love having your best friend with you. It's such a morale booster.

Get a spill proof water bowl. I got one many years ago at a PetsMart. The sides angled in AND it had a top rim that curved back into the bowl so if water did sploosh up the sides the curved rim prevented *any* spillage. I bought puppy poopy pick-up bags by the roll and just kept a roll in my pocket. If your pupper is too big to pick up and put into/out of the cab then you’ll need a folding ramp you can store on the catwalk, but please don’t let them jump down cuz that wrecks their joints even if they can easily manage doing it. You are going to love this, I would never have stayed a trucker without a doggie with me (I went through 3 over the years). Be safe.

Get folding dog stairs on Amazon. Keep them in front of the passenger seat, place a pillow and blanket on top and boom your dog has a lovely dog bed as well as stairs to let them get out easy and save their joints.
