I think it would be difficult.
Would a farmer trust a random person?
Modern farming is technical, or involves driving expensive tractors. You can't just turn up and have a go.
There would be issues around insurance and all sorts of things.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
noodlyman@reddit
I don't know what you mean by associations.
I think that technically you need a visa that permits you to work even to do unpaid volunteer work.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)

I think possibly you're expecting the UK farming situation to be more similar to France than it really is.
In France the dominant type of farm is smallhold farming - these are very rare in the UK. Most small farms went out of business decades if not centuries ago. Virtually all farms in the UK are very large and grow food or rear animals on an industrial scale, even if many are still family-owned.
That means there's not much call for volunteers coming in for a few days - they need experienced workers who can come in for an entire season and who know how to operate all the big machinery.
The closest you may be able to get might be to volunteer as a fruit picker? Maybe check out something like this?
https://thefelixproject.org/help-us/volunteer-farm
(but look for one in whichever area you will be staying of course)
Or maybe something like this, where the farms are more organic, less industrial are rely much more on occasional help to do simple but physical jobs?

The villages where im from it may work. The question is more around the legality of it. The farms near me to have short term workers who only work for a week or so picking fruit or cutting cabbages but those workers to get the correct visa in place and are paid for it.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Front_Society1353@reddit
It might be possible with some planning. I would look here

I like that you have a romantic, 19th century idea of life here but no.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)

Fuck off OP.

My dad is a farmer, and I’m afraid this just wouldn’t be possible - there are very strict laws about people working on farms. It’s a bit like going to a factory and asking to be allowed to work there for a day.
As you say you’re going to be near Bath, you could try contacting this place in advance to see if there’s any volunteer opportunities there. I think this is the closest thing to what you want that’s going to be possible. https://www.bathcityfarm.org.uk/
On a completely unrelated note - check out the ‘Yak Yeti Yak’ restaurant while you’re in Bath! They have the most delicious Nepalese food.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Merci j'essayerais 😉🥰
rusticusmus@reddit
If you were nearer my dad’s farm I’d ask if I could at least show you around, but we’re a five hour drive from Bath. I hope you have a great holiday!

ExposingYouLot@reddit
Weird behaviour and absolutely no one with even half a brain would agree to this, ever.
Leaves people open to so SO many problems, that people would just say no and close the door on you
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Désolée, c'était sans arrière pensée juste j'aimais l'idée
abrequevoy@reddit
noodlyman@reddit
The farmer has no insurance if you injure yourself and sue. You are not insured to drive his tractor, even if you know how.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Tallman_james420@reddit
You can do farm or zoo experiences for a day, but you have to pay to do it.
It won't matter where you come from.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Ok merci, ça peut être sympa
abrequevoy@reddit

This seems like a sweet idea! But I do think people would be confused and maybe a bit stand off ish if you just show up, out of the blue, offering to help! Unless you managed to stumble across a pretty open and generous person. I don’t imagine a lot of farmers would welcome the help as many people are naturally suspicious (it’s unfortunate really but the way it is), particularly farmers, who already deal with trespassers and might just tell you to get off their land! However, there are lots of charity’s whom I’m sure would welcome help, it might be best to contact them beforehand though! I just googled “uk farm charity volunteering” and loads came up, all over the UK, so farm volunteering whilst travelling to different locations would be possible. I’m just you’ll find something but might be worth reaching out to places that interest you before going as this would be considered most appropriate in the UK, Good luck!

Merci 😉🥰 pour tous ces conseils
loythboy@reddit
You could try the wildlife trust of the area you are in they do volunteer days
inide@reddit
A wildlife center would be a much more feasible prospect. And probably be more varied & interesting

CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Dommage 😭
Tallman_james420@reddit
Work isn't a novelty here.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
inide@reddit
Legally, it would depend on what type of visa you had, but it'd be extremely unlikely that someone hiring you for 1 day will check visa status.
It's extremely unlikely that any farms would allow it though as it'd be a massive liability issue for them
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Dommage 😭 J'adorais l'idée
HarissaPorkMeatballs@reddit
You can only volunteer with a registered charity for up to 30 days, assuming you're entering as a standard visitor.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Merci 😉🥰
TedWasler@reddit
I’m sure you could offer your services for free, but explaining what you are suggesting may be a little difficult with limited language. Google translate to the rescue I suppose. So maybe check the 5G coverage first, and get a good SIM data package.
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Merci 😉🥰
VegetableWeekend6886@reddit
Why is this happening what's going on
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
Bah j'aurais bien aimer aider, c'est mal vu ?
fredfoooooo@reddit
Bonne chance !
I don’t think this will work. Strangers turning up on a doorstep asking for work is no longer a thing in the modern world. You would be better off doing this via an organisation like https://www.theworkingholidayclub.com or similar. This is an example there are others. Good luck!
CocoTyg@reddit (OP)
