BMW M2 Comp
Subaru BRZ tS

Neither of these money pits are a good first car
BurninCoco@reddit
You can replace BRZ parts as easy as Legos and those parts are cheap and aftermarket options galore.
BMW... well yes
InternationalBite690@reddit
Cheap doesn’t mean quality. Cheap means you may be doing this again real soon.
It’s a FIRST car. Maybe get something that will get you where you want to go and get the toy for playtime and financial ruins. If you can’t afford this option you definitely can’t afford a BMW!
BurninCoco@reddit
BRZ is a quality and reliable car. Not every answer is a civic/corolla
InternationalBite690@reddit
First car so yes it is
CommanderKrieger@reddit
A Honda civic for the next seven years till you can develop a fully functioning brain.
SuzeFabulous@reddit
Best answer!

You could try pricing out these for each to compare:
-A set of brakes
-Windshield
-Oil change/filter
-Air filter / cabin air filter
Also look at the fuel types. I know the newer BRZ needs 92+ octane fuel which isn’t just expensive, it can be somewhat hard to find.
SuzeFabulous@reddit
The M’s are all premium gas.

Need so much info. Age? Cost of each? Mileage, income? Pre approval? Long term or short term? Lease or buy?

18M
60K or less

Buy
SuzeFabulous@reddit
I can’t even imagine how much that M2 insurance would be for an 18 year old. Geez, my M4 insurance is really high and I’m no kid. 😂
Rare-Bet-870@reddit
I more so meant the age of the vehicles. First car? Ok listen Germans are expensive to buy and even more expensive to maintain out of warranty, buying used is good if you get warranty and you don’t deal with depreciation. I don’t know a lot about Subaru, but I’ve dealt with German and they’re quite finicky. But here’s my opinion. Find a certified dealer who will sell you a car with good warranty if you go used. But honestly unless you’re willing to risk money into losing like half just get something simple and fun. Honestly unless you’re willing to sink money into either be sensible. You’re going to get a payment on a depreciating asset, it’s not the worst thing to do, but you need to be mindful about the cost of ownership. My truck is more expensive to maintain because it’s a performance truck. You’re 18 you will want something different in less than three years I bet. I get buying a cool vehicle but there’s ways to do it smart. I suggest researching the price used and reliability. I get buying the thing that you want but some vehicles are not worth it. I bought my vehicle with three things in mind, it was long term, I can afford maintenance and depreciation and and I knew it would be relatively reliable. If you can’t for sure handle all three don’t buy it
Throttlechopper@reddit
Get an insurance quote before even considering each. The Subaru will be cheaper to insure, and for good reason, it has roughly half the horsepower of the M2, it’s the better choice for a driver who barely understands how ABS braking works.
jrileyy229@reddit
You can afford to buy and insure a 40 to 50k dollar, out of warranty, BMW M car... At 18 working at a pet store?
This sounds like fantasy land
jrileyy229@reddit
A pet store that you apparently don't even work at yet... Yeah, this is definitely fantasy land.
SuzeFabulous@reddit
First car? Lmao, you’d kill yourself in the M2 comp…. …..from and M4 comp owner.
micifaramustar@reddit
The amount of people recommending the m2c as a first car is genuinely concerning.
Secured54@reddit (OP)
whats wrong with it?
micifaramustar@reddit
411hp, rwd, lots of low down torque and can be very tail happy.
That thing will be wrapped around a tree within a few months.
Secured54@reddit (OP)
yeah if youre dumb with the vehicle, terrible reasoning
micifaramustar@reddit
It's not if, it's when. You are 18 looking to buy an m2c, of course you'll be dumb with it. Not to mention that with your experience you realistically couldn't even control a 220i at the limit, let alone an m2c.
No-Leading-4232@reddit
You are dumb with the vehicle -Indian accent
BurninCoco@reddit
it's your first car, you'll be dumb 100%
Particular_Buddy_165@reddit
its not dumb, its a lack of experience, you wont know what it feels like when it gets loose until it happens and then its too late because you wont have the experience to know how to correct it
no one is trying to shame you or say you are a bad driver
everyone is talking from experience and trying to protect you from a horrible misake
_no_usernames_avail@reddit
You can’t afford to keep either of these on the road.
Boxer_Yu@reddit
Neither.
Pure_Squirrel_1621@reddit
A 2001 Honda Accord with a 5 speed.
NathenJee@reddit
BMW M2. The BRZ is nice but the lack of torque will get old fast.
Particular_Buddy_165@reddit
nah it will not get old, the entire car is extremely engaging and you dont need oodles of torque to enjoy it
Particular_Buddy_165@reddit
these two are wildly different price ranges, with one being basically a complete step up from the other I dont even know why you are comparing these
its usually miata vs brz
that being said the BRZ but as others have said, youre prob too young, need more experience, and def cant afford either working at a pet store
skp4nda_@reddit
How much seat time do u have and will you increase your seat time with either of these 2? If u have experience and know the basics get the m2, if youre green and still novice/learning get the subaru.
Frequent-Felcher@reddit
Miata
Talentless_Cooking@reddit
2 equally bad decisions, as a Subaru guy I would recommend the BMW.
Secured54@reddit (OP)
why bad? im never buying a normal car lmao
Talentless_Cooking@reddit
Subaru is a cult, and I have drank the coolaide. BMW is just as bad for maintenance headaches. Both cars need you to be ahead of the maintenance schedule and upgrade parts.
Frequent-Felcher@reddit
There's no way bro said "coolaide" wtf
OkCartographer175@reddit
petsmart pays pretty good i guess
Frequent-Felcher@reddit
Is it Pet's Mart or Pet Smart?

pon_d@reddit
BRZ. Gotta learn to drive a slow car fast to appreciate driving a fast car fast. Conservation of momentum and all that.
Start with a fast car and the first time you come unstuck (and you will come unstuck) you’ll be going 30mph faster.
Bubbly-Pirate-3311@reddit
Absolutely neither of these. Unless you've got money that you're comfy lighting on fire, buy some other little sports car. This is coming from someone who has owned a Subaru and currently owns an Audi. The Subaru seized its engine after sneakily (no smoke no light) burning it all, and the Audi has actually been perfect (knock on wood I know)
Barra350z@reddit
An m2 shouldn’t be anyone’s first car. You’re going to wreck it and it’s probably too much of a financial burden.
A brz is a better choice for a first car in terms of not being a menace
jrileyy229@reddit
One car costs more than double the other...
SavageBean14@reddit
Two very different cars and price points. Depends on your budget, the BRZ is going to be less to upkeep. BMW is definitely the better car, but comes with higher upkeep costs.
