AME consultation

Idk if there are any AME’s here, but I need some help. I went to a consult today and couldn’t go through with it because I didn’t have $350. Does anyone know if I can get some free advice or a free consultation somewhere? I just need to be told yes or no in regard to my medical conditions allowing me to get a medical or not. Thanks.

Simply put, I’m on 6 meds, one is an SSRI for depression and the other is an anti-psychotic for tics, what are my chances of getting a special issuance 3rd class medical?

You can Google 'AME guidance' for the specific medication names and types you are taking to find an answer. The documents that the AME will follow to defer or deny you are public on the internet. Just look up the FAA guidance document for each specific medication. But based on what little you've said here... I wouldn't hold your breath. Being on SSRIs and anti-psychotics? Big no no. Have you actually asked yourself if you're even remotely safe to fly?

The meds I’m on make my life better, I refuse to go off of them to appease the FAA, I therefore told myself the pilot thing ain’t happening, I just wanted a professional opinion, but I don’t have professional opinion money.

If you think you need to be off them to appease the FAA, then yea you probably shouldn't be flying alone for your safety anyway. Stay on your meds and have the quality of life, yeah. You will not have a career as a pilot. Especially if you don't have professional opinion money - if you think 350 is expensive, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Aviation is expensive in every way. 1 hour of flight time with instruction is 200. You can always fly for fun with an instructor. But again it will be expensive.

Yea I don’t have aviation money, I also have a bad habit of comparing myself to young pilots I see on social media and assume they have money and it makes me resentful.

If you don’t have professional opinion money 1) you don’t have pilot money and 2) you don’t have get-a-special-issuance money. I hope you took advantage of the offer here to message an AME willing to talk to you.

I did, and yes I don’t have pilot money or any type of money for this career, dispatch will likely be extremely expensive as well, I love aviation but I didn’t realize I would have zero options, oh well.
