Should I Upgrade my CPU from 9700X to a 9800X3D

I'm planning on buying and building a new PC as my laptop is just not cutting it anymore and can't run much at all. Its mainly for gaming as well as video editing as I'm a youtuber.
My budget is around £2000-2200. Right now I plan on getting a 5070ti but I am unsure whether to pair it with a 9700X or 9800X3D.
I normally play games rn at 1080p but would probably play 1440p and 4k on a better monitor. So not too many competitive titles like CS or Valorant.
Ik that normally means the bottle neck is GPU but was just curious whether its worth spending the extra £110

1080p yes but why?! 1440p no 4k no

That extra money could probably go towards an OLED monitor. At 1440p/4k, the 9700x would do just fine for most games. Obviously there are specific games where you will see improvements so you should watch benchmark videos of the games you play at the resolutions you're thinking off and see if the performance difference is worth it to you. I am running a 7700x + 5070ti at 4k, and for like 99% of the games I play the difference between 7700x and 9800x3d is like 2 fps.

Do you have a suggestion for which monitor to get

Personally I’ve been using Alienware AW3225QF monitor it’s a bit on the pricier side because it’s 4k and was about $1000 CAD before taxes. I’ve had no issues with it so I’d imagine other Alienware 1440p oled would be good. I don’t have any experience with other brands but 1440p oleds can be found for like CAD $600 (around £300) and sometimes cheaper with sales/open box deals so I would definently take a look at those.

If you play competitive, 9800x3d, but you said you didn't.
However if the difference is only 100 bucks, you are overpaying for the 9700x, so you should get the 9800x3d. If you keep it for long time, more than 5 years, you really want the x3d. That cache makes it act more like a 10core load wise, in games that do leverage it, and the 25% difference in performance in the very long run, it's gonna be more like 40-50% because of that cache.
5800x3d is 4 years old, and it's still good to pair with a 240hz display. Hell, it's almost the same performance as the 9700x.

X3D if you can afford it, but the 9700X will serve you just fine if you can't.

9800x3D and get a 9070XT instead. Better for the money
OddDistribution4030@reddit (OP)
Some people told me its worse for editing and content creation
EdoTheOnlyOne@reddit
Its a relatively minimal difference. Encoder is similar if not slightly worse, and you'll notice a slight delay when rendering edits compared to NVIDIA but for the £2-300 difference it isnt worth the extra, especially since you could spend that extra on a better stick of RAM, a more reliable PSU or a faster drive, alongside the better CPU, all of which make a larger difference than the 5070ti does compared to the AMD equivalent :)
UpstairsConnection57@reddit
Hardly a minimal difference. The 5070ti benchmarks at 250% that of the 9070XT when rendering Blender projects. The 5070ti is significantly more powerful with raytracing as well. And hands down the 5070ti is much better with AI software.

Video editing doesn't use the GPU as much as something like 3D rendering does.

At 1080p the cpu carries most of the load and the 9800x3d is the best choice. For 4k and generally for 1440, the gpu does most of the work and at these resolutions the 9700x will be fine.
For such a small price delta compared to your overall budget, get the 9800x3d.
UpstairsConnection57@reddit
That is technically inaccurate. The CPU carries no more load at 1080p than it does at 1440p or 4k. The GPU just carries less load in comparison at lower resolutions. It is a mistake that keeps being reiterated across the gaming community. It was taken out of context a long time ago when balancing CPU and GPU needs.
Zeduxx@reddit
It's worth it, but that machine is giga overkill for a 1080p monitor, so a new monitor should probably be included in your budget.
OddDistribution4030@reddit (OP)
Oh yh I'm gonna buy a new monitor as well but i didn't include in the PC budget i mentioned

For £110 on a PC that's going to cost over £2000, it seems like it's worth it to me to buy the fastest gaming CPU on the market.
