Which restaurant/takeaway has the best pizza and why?
Posted by Lightworker_2024@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 40 comments
I remember Pizza Express pizzas in the restaurant being very good. Are they still delicious?
Domino's used to be amazing also 5 years back. I've heard they are lower quality now.
I want recommendations for thin crust pizzas that have enough tomatoes/paste and cheese!

Rudys if you’re talking about a chain restaurant
mysilvermachine@reddit
Rudys at the moment are excellent.
I dread the day when they get bought out and they shift to having everything delivered frozen like other chains that used to do Neapolitan pizzas.
jammie_dough@reddit
Theyve already been bought out, they’re owned by BGF a private equity fund. Same group as the one that owns the Albert’s Schloss chain. It’s why they’ve opened up lots of branches over the last few years.
I remember the old Rudy’s before they got bought out, it was significantly better.
frodoisdead@reddit
It was better but it's also retained a higher quality than I thought when they got bought out.
For anyone who's interested, the OG owners of Rudy's opened a restaurant in Slaithwaite called Anello.
chez2202@reddit
I usually go local independent rather than chain for pizza. I have 2 nearby. One of them makes amazing pizzas and the other does the best garlic bread with cheese that I’ve ever had.
I have to say that the Domino’s in my town is actually really good. They always give me extra dips and don’t charge me!
BillWilberforce@reddit
Anything but Pizza Express. Got bought by private equity. Who by design ended up defaulting to the bond holders, who took over the company. So it's maximise short term profits, minimise the quantity of food and the quality then complain that the customers never come back.

Local delivery? Look for a kebab shop, or something with the word "junction" or "house" in the name, like Chicken Junction or Kebab House
95% chance it's the best place in the area - way better than Dominoes or other chain places, and cheaper.
Forward-Operation122@reddit
Pizza express is nice. But you need to put it in the oven once it's delivered. It even says on the box.

try papa john’s for sure
Distinct-Lion4658@reddit
Not even being sarcastic but if you like thin pizza you can't go wrong with Dr Ortker frozen pizzas. They are cheap and tasty and never failed me
HenryFromYorkshire@reddit
I really like Dr Oetker as well. They cook nicely in my crappy oven, whereas a lot don't. I like the hawaiian, but I'm a pineapple person.
Distinct-Lion4658@reddit
I've only tried the original and pepperoni ones. To this day I am yet to try pineapple on pizza
elbapo@reddit
Dominoes was amazing 5 years ago because you grew up
PapaJrer@reddit
I like Pizza Express, but they definitely hold back on the cheese
gerrineer@reddit
And the air-conditioning is good you definitely dont sweat in there.

Alright Beatrice, stop covering for him

Franco Manco. Great sourdough bases, imaginative toppings and regularly changing specials.
carpet_tart@reddit
I prefer a dirty one from the local “takeaway” being honest. Pizza Hut is decent as is Costco
b135702@reddit
Bossman pizza 🤝
Livid_Distribution19@reddit
Chilli saw?
Odd-Leopard4388@reddit
My pizza hut delivery place is so slow where i am it always arrives cold and i can always refund it via deliveroo cause it takes about 1hr45 to get to me. Also dont feel bad as its a massive corporation!
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
After a night out, it's gotta be some cheap dirty deep pan pizza with enough cheese and toppings to make an Italian cry.
soundman32@reddit
Pizza Hut/Dominos/Pizza Express are all overpriced horrible examples of the art. Your local kebab shop does a better effort. Im fortunate to have 2 artisan Pizza places near me, and they are cheaper and have better menus than the chains.
NotHumanButIPlayOne@reddit
LOL, Domino's was never "amazing".
b135702@reddit
Pizza express is good. You should see if you have any Italian pizzarias or new York style pizza places local to you though cause they're bound to be better!
bambonie11@reddit
Whichever dirty kebab shop is open when I've got ten pints in me.
NotoriousP_U_G@reddit
10?! What are you getting a kebab shop pizza at 7pm?
JoeBagadonut@reddit
I tend to go with Papa John's when ordering a pizza but that's mainly because they do really good sides. The pizza is decent but not incredible.
TimboJimbo81@reddit
Dominos was never amazing
Aggravating_Cloud657@reddit
The local Italian
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
Probably your local independent Italian.
Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc are good in a slightly different way in that they hit a certain spot, but they're not the best pizza.
biggesteegit@reddit
Is there a local Italian near you? Almost certainly in a different class to the pizza chains.
TapeDeckSlick@reddit
Had Pizza Express once in my life and it had a long hair baked into it, binned it all and have never returned
Even-Way9768@reddit
Many will probably disagree but I find Nandos consistently good 😁
Lightworker_2024@reddit (OP)
I had no idea Nandos does pizza!
Even-Way9768@reddit
I somehow misread the title as 'which restaurant does the best takeaway' 😁 sorry!
