Because gas prices are insane, we should bring back hitchhiking.

Personally, I wouldn't pick someone up unless I had some form of self defense, an internal vehicle camera, a really good mood, lots of free time, extra money, and a particularly carefree outlook. Which is to say, probably never. lol

I also wouldn't try to get picked up unless I was absolutely desperate. Even then, I'd probably prefer it was by a cop (despite the fact that I don't trust cops).

I've heard things tend to be better with hippies picking up other hippies, but I'm not sure I trust that either.

Hitchhiking was actually reasonably safe. There was some bad press and some horror movies that made it seem dangerous. Plus the entire "stranger danger" panic of the 70's and 80's pretty much killed it.

I lived in central asia in the late 2010's and it was still super common to just "flag down" a driver and offer some cash in exchange for a short lift. It was super convenient.

I picked up a hitchhiker a couple years back. I mean there just aren’t many people out there even trying. But I almost drove by , then it flashed in my Mind all the rides I had gotten when I was a kid. Pulled over, drove a bit out of my way to get them, neither of us got killed.

I can say in my area they’ve made it less hitchhiker friendly. The places that they/we used to stand that had room for cars to pull over without blocking traffic are all gone. So that makes the act of hitchhiking a lot more difficult I bet
