I’m 43, saw the box in the office, and immediately started smelling. The scents were more potent in our day. Still satisfying.

Oh man, you got a mega box! We buy these at my workplace for meetings specifically so we can smell them.
New_Stats@reddit
I have those at work too! Blueberry is my favorite
JRose083@reddit
I owe a pack I got for my kids 10 years ago. Still smell awesome! Elementary art class had the best stuff.

I'm 43 in a few weeks, and if I saw these for sale, I would buy a box for me and a box for my Nieces and Nephews

my doctor gave me a smell test and it was basically smelling unmarked mr. Sketch markers and being asked to identity the smells. Who of our generation can’t do that?
SpicyChill77@reddit (OP)
I couldn’t do it with these new boxes. Dark green is now apple instead of watermelon and watermelon is light pink. Yellow is now banana. Brown is cinnamon.
Kellzy1212@reddit
Wasn’t green mint at one point? Yellow was lemon, because it smelled like lemon pledge.
she-dont-use-jellyyy@reddit
Light green was mint. Dark green was watermelon
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
Brown was always cinnamon. I don’t know about the others.
What_Up_82@reddit
Wasn't brown Root Beer? Or am I think of some other random scented writing apparatus from our youth?
Greedy_Street_891@reddit
I’d be hitting that like a coke head.
DramaticAge8866@reddit
That squeak of the cap hits like a Zippo click
Greedy_Street_891@reddit
Yup I’ve got a drawer full of zipppo’s and don’t smoke anymore. Well cigarettes that is lol.

I’m in this conference room alone so I’m grateful for the smelling time.

Markers that encouraged sniffing. Only in the '80s and '90s!

When we were kids, my brother and a neighborhood kid were coloring with Mr. Sketch. I'll never forget the neighbor kid saying, "Hey, smell the red! It smells just like red!"
LowandSlow90@reddit
I wonder if he has a brother named Ralph.
uhlemi11@reddit
My kid wanted and I was happy to have an excuse to buy some, lol. Didn't the yellow one used to be lemon though? She handed me the yellow one and was like, "mmm banana!" And I was like, "no that's lemon." Took a second sniff because my brain was just expecting lemon so I didn't really register. Definitely banana now!
Stinkerma@reddit
My former office had those too. Someone led a meeting with a black dot on the end of her nose once because she liked the smell of licorice a bit too much
RemarkablePaper1798@reddit
It looks like you can still connect them all together to make a huge marker sword though.
Melancolin@reddit
My 5 year old recently discovered this. I was very pleased to see it is a universal phenomenon.

Jealous!

Someone is having the best day at work! 😂
SpicyChill77@reddit (OP)
There’s a HIGH probability I do that now. Thank you for the reminder!
What_Up_82@reddit
The blueberry one always gagged me for some reason. I could feel the fumes in my brain from these lol.
BooBeeAttack@reddit
That one always got me as well. I felt dumber the rest of the day after I smelled the blueberry one.
The grape one however I practically shoved into my nostrils for how nice it smelled to me back in the day.
sarcasmexorcism@reddit
it's because it's the washables. they're not as good.
EL3MENTALIST@reddit
HR is going to have a very odd video of you huffing markers and giggling.
Also still pissed they changed lemon to banana.
jazzlike-sounds@reddit
I found the jackpot in my office recently. I suppose now is an appropriate time to share.
jdw1977@reddit
I used to love these! There ma or may not exist a photo of me as a little kid with my nose all different colors from smelling the markers.
gellshayngel@reddit
Took me a minute to realize "lavable" was a Spanish word and didn't mean you could throw them in a volcano and they'd still work.
WendyPortledge@reddit
Something tells me these are part of the reason I have extreme fragrance allergies now…
tettoffensive@reddit
My wife still had hers from back in the day. My kids used them up over a couple months
Common_Juggernaut724@reddit
I got the oddest looks when I grabbed these off the board at a corporate training session and started sniffing them. I guess most of them didn't grow up with Mr Sketch lol
Pretend-Tea86@reddit
Our training team buys a new box for every big training. Invariably, everyone immediately starts smelling them all and picking favorites. It's so nostalgic.

So now that we have identified how aging reduces the senses, let's talk about how COVID has permanent ranges to our bodies and especially our brains.
Recently I bought some electric lighters for the house. The kind that makes an electric arch to light candles and, for me, the one burner on my stove that refuses to light automatically (and the grill). It is almost soundless. My kids jump from across the room when I use it. To them it is super loud. All three of my girls. I looked into it and sure enough, my wife and I can't hear the thing but my kids hear it like it's on a megaphone.
For context, I get my hearing checked annually for work. I wear earplugs most of my day despite not really needing to. I have always been very protective of my hearing.
Forest_Green_4691@reddit
I smell it through the picture. Love grape.
