GRANDLarsonyy@reddit
Science, make yourself, and morning view are all great.
Xjadebones@reddit
You forgot enjoy incubus and fungus amongus.
Raneynickelfire@reddit
Fungus Amongus is better than all of those and I'll die on this hill. It's at least organic.
GRANDLarsonyy@reddit
I had Fungus. Think Science was just as hard/good and way more polished.
toastman556@reddit
A Crow Left of the Murder wasn't bad either, but admittedly not all bangers like the 3 albums you listed.
harlembornnbred@reddit
Crow is a great album as well but Morning View is hands down their best album. Their sound mellowed out but they're still incredible imo
srlemp@reddit
Nothing beats the blend of insanity and beauty of SCIENCE. It's a wild experimental ride that for me is easily their peak.
Tack_Money@reddit
SCIENCE is so good as is their RHCP days of fungus among us.
I felt as if there was a drop off after make yourself. They just kinda became a Brandon Boyd’s voice tribute band. Like don’t get me wrong, dude can sing but they lost their funk.
daniel_observer@reddit
Losing Dirk Lance after Morning View changed their vibe considerably. I love Crow, Sick Sad Little World is one of my favorite songs of theirs, but they lost me after that.
Tack_Money@reddit
Light Grenades is ok, but that’s when I was out. I have not listened to enough of anything after that to have an opinion but what I did hear was a nope for me.
ShockNoodles@reddit
See, I liked a lot of the songs on Light Grenades, and my daughters really like that album. But I agree, Make Yourself and Morning View were like Peak Incubus.
michaelHIJINX@reddit
When Make Yourself came out I was underwhelmed because I wanted more of the raw energy of SCIENCE... But the album grew on me. Every album since had to grow on me as well, but I never got into anything after A Crow.
The Incubus that put out that first 5 albums is still my favorite band of all time!
srlemp@reddit
💯they are a fine but pretty generic rock band post Make Yourself. All of the crazy chords and funk that made them unique left the building.
DadofRoman@reddit
💯 💯 💯 💯
CastIronMooseEsq@reddit
On this page, we see a little girl giggling at a hippopotamus. I wonder why?
Matchew024@reddit
Aqueous Transmission on mushrooms. 🤯
NindieNation@reddit
I started losing interest in the band around Crow - Still loved them, but I just didn't vibe with that album... until I tried learning some of those songs on guitar and it completely changed my mind. A Crow Left of the Murder, Pistola, and ESPECIALLY Sick Sad Little World are so goddamn fun to play on guitar.
I listened to SCIENCE-Morning View so much, I kinda burned out on them and have found Crow is an awesome album to revisit when that's the case.
CastIronMooseEsq@reddit
They got super political and loss Lance Dirk, which didn't help.
GarblingCumfarts@reddit
I got Crow and likened it to Pearl Jam's No Code album. It was a left turn from their previous stuff, but once it grew on me I ended up being a huge fan. But that was pretty much the stopping point for me, I was more in to metal in that point in my life as NuMetal was finally dying out and better metal bands were getting that exposure finally.
Matchew024@reddit
Have you seen Sick Sad Little World Alive at Red Rocks? That performance was amazing.
_shaftpunk@reddit
That Red Rocks dvd is what made me fall in love with A Crow Left Of The Murder. All the songs they played from that one came alive for me. Now it’s my favorite album of theirs.
dadneverleft@reddit
Light Grenades had a few bangers too. Wouldn’t rank it higher than the others though.
CrumBum_sr@reddit
They really changed style after the bassist Lance Dirk left the band in 2003 - Crow is a sold album but they are almost a different band
burnerdadsrule@reddit
I was very burnt out of toothless bush-era protest rock by that point.
DreamsAndSchemes@reddit
Crow was when the original lineup changed and they started including Ben Kenneys sound into the mix
baberim@reddit
Fungus Amungus was awesome too. Super funky.
Jon_E_Mammoth@reddit
“Incubus?! More like… Stink-ubus!”
Semi-kidding, but they indeed mostly unjustly hated by “punk” audiences, and they were absolutely all over the radio and MTV so feel like the love quotient is higher than the hate quotient.
“I-I-I wiiiiiiiiiish you were he-y-ere!”
GRANDLarsonyy@reddit
I liked how hard science went.
DiamondAggressive@reddit
and Fungus Amongus
DarkenL1ght@reddit
The Alive at Red Rocks DVD was amazing.
Procrasturbating@reddit
I tripped balls at that concert. Brandon’s head kept looking like the couple in Beetlejuice when they stretched their heads out.
Powernick50@reddit
My first concert. Didn't realize how strong of a contact buzz I was going to get.
TheJugOfNugs@reddit
This was my first concert too, and probably the best one ive been to. So glad to have been there.
Matchew024@reddit
A group of girls i went with brought like 5 blunts hidden in the hood of their hoodie. Amazing night.
rsauer1208@reddit
I had an old friend that did this for one of their concerts with The Wu Tang clan. He only came out of during Aquarius Transmission.
flabergasterer@reddit
Was this before or after they got traded to Asia?
rsauer1208@reddit
Before. He had missed the Wu from a previous concert and wanted to see them live and it just lined up. The trip was long, he still enjoyed it in the end.
LiminalSapien@reddit
Fuck I forgot I had this, I'm gonna go watch it again!!!!!
Melliorin@reddit
I randomly rediscovered that DVD in a small leatherbound CD book I found inside a dusty box under the bed of our spare bedroom last year, and I was so happy.
keepcalmdude@reddit
The fungus among us I loved
Chasing-Shanks@reddit
I still revisit these albums yearly.
Homer007@reddit
I remember the Science CD had a game witht he head from the cover on it... lol.
macklin_sob@reddit
Even my 20 year old likes Summer Romance. Make Yourself was definitely a CD I soukd have worn out in the early 2000s.
OoT-TheBest@reddit
These albums were amazing!!
Don_Shetland@reddit
Also Fungus Amongus and Enjoy Incubus
divinecmdy@reddit
I was a big fan of Enjoy Incubus as well
SpaceCowboy_84@reddit
Definitely the three best albums. Fungus Amongus was another fun one.
fridder@reddit
If not now, when is pretty great
GRANDLarsonyy@reddit
That’s cool. After light grenades? I think I stopped picking up their albums. I’ll check it out.
Aezetyr@reddit
Well, no. As of 2022 they've sold over 23 million records worldwide per Wikipedia.
KeyAd5912@reddit
Has anyone ever heard of this band Metallica? 🤔
chazysciota@reddit
No lie, last year my MIL heard "Nothing Else Matters" on the radio and immediately called me to ask if I had heard it yet. Once I stopped laughing, I informed her that I played it on guitar for a HS talent show 30 years ago.
ailish@reddit
At least a boomer having never heard of that song makes sense.
chazysciota@reddit
an individual song, sure. But she wasn't sure if the band was new or not, lmao. She had two kids in HS when they were arguably the biggest band in the world.
ailish@reddit
Okay, well, you didn't say all that. You just talked about the song.
UnrepententHeathen@reddit
Context clues and a little knowledge about Metallica(and metal in general) would have clued you in.
ailish@reddit
Not me, genius. The boomer.
UnrepententHeathen@reddit
... Yeah, I know.
The person you replied to literally said they "informed her I played that for a HS talent show 30 years ago"
Which implies they were popular 30 years ago.
ailish@reddit
So? What makes you think a boomer knew every popular band 39 years ago? Do you know every popular band now?
UnrepententHeathen@reddit
Brother, what? Nothing I said even remotely suggests I think that.
They told their MIL they played that song 30 years ago, so clearly the band isn't new, like it was mentioned she thought. They played it 30 years ago in a highschool talent show, where you're showing off for your friends and acquaintances. Typically if you're going to play music for a school talent show, it's either original or popular, which means it's surprising that their MIL wouldn't have heard of one of the most famous bands of all time when she had kids in highschool when they were mainstream and popular.
ailish@reddit
That's exactly what I said? Why is it surprising to you that she didn't know who they were? Do you think everyone has heard of everything that you've heard of? I'll ask again, have you heard of every band that I'd popular now, or do you think that one day you'll be the butt of some post like this?
UnrepententHeathen@reddit
I expect parents to talk to and interact with their kids. Topics like music would typically come up. Especially considering how metal has been demonized, including when bands like Metallica were mainstream with the whole "satanic panic" bullshit.
I'm just saying it's surprising she didnt know, because it is. Its like being surprised a parent today doesn't know about what their highschool children are into. Do they not interact and share with their kids interests?
I didn't make anything a big deal, I made a single reply and after explaining myself after some initial misunderstanding, you have taken things out of context and now are acting like I was making a big deal out of things.
ailish@reddit
Sooo that means our parents all did that when we were kids? Really?
You absolutely made a big deal out of it, with your rude comment about "context clues would have clued you in. No need for that bro. You just wanted to be right. Get over yourself.
UnrepententHeathen@reddit
Most, yes? My mother was a single working parent who was often asleep when home. She still found time to get to know her kid by the time they were almost an adult.
Brother, if pointing out an adult should be able to use context clues is rude, I am envious of the life you've led. That's a basic fact. Adults should be able to use context clues. Its a basic skill.
Brother, again, I was referring to the MIL who isn't fucking here. I was just adding to the conversation in a public forum, I genuinely don't get why that makes you so tilted. That's how reddit works. People say things, other people respond, and then other people who weren't part of the conversation originally also respond. What's the issue?
Why are you so upset I dare suggest an adult woman be able to use context clues, that neither of us know? Seriously, chill the fuck out.
chazysciota@reddit
I got her back by telling her about this AMAZING (/s) new Disturbed song that I think she'd really like.
ailish@reddit
🤣 I'll bet that went over well.
cigarandcreamsoda@reddit
I’ve been more into this old British band called the Beatles. You’ve probably never heard of them.
Eldermillenial1@reddit
Wait till you hear this one band named after a blimp, Led Zeppelin, they’re pretty good too, not that popular but still 👍
BigBlueMountainStar@reddit
Named after a heavy blimp
enters_and_leaves@reddit
I really like the music put out by a guy who started a band with his siblings but then went solo for a bit. I think he was named Mike Jackstone or something.
Fresh-Vacation4191@reddit
Stones will always be much better imo
nilochpesoj@reddit
Never heard of them. Can I find them on Napster?
joshhupp@reddit
Yes, but you have to search under Megadeth
joshhupp@reddit
Yeah, they got big from Stranger Things, right?
tartacus@reddit

i_chose_this_shit@reddit

ailish@reddit
Right, has anyone else heard of this band???
ChillWaveSurfer@reddit
Right? This was one of the most popular bands of their time.
rojoshow13@reddit
I absolutely hated this band. There was a period when the radio station was a god awful Incubus song... something like "Whatever tomorrow brings..." And then immediately followed by, "I'm like a bird...". And then, "Do you believe in life after love". It was terrible. It actually made me look forward to the Bon Jovi and N'Sync song.
HeyYouTurd@reddit (OP)
lol your not wrong
Chance-Adept@reddit
Saw them play Morning View beginning to end live last year. They sounded so great, awesome show, they rock.
MechanicalSideburns@reddit
You think so? I caught them at HFStival in 2024, and I was pretty surprised at how much Brandon's voice has degraded. He can't get anywhere close to belting out the notes like he did in the early 2000's. Like, I wondered at first if they replaced him with another singer, but no it was definitely him.
Chance-Adept@reddit
Maybe I was better off because my buddy warned me his voice had aged, so my expectations were really low, and he way surpassed them. I don’t know about your show, but at mine they also changed some arrangements around to make them strain his voice less. So I took the whole experience as “they sounded great” but Brandon’s voice isn’t what it was, for sure.
HighSeverityImpact@reddit
I went twice! I saw them in San Francisco, and then I was invited to a private show by a friend in Las Vegas on New Years Eve.
Morning View was my jam. I used to listen to that album back to back as I drove home from college on breaks. It would end, and rather than change the CD I'd just listen to it again.
beeman311@reddit
Morning View is in my top 10 all time favs
enkidomark@reddit
I was 11 in ‘90, so I thought of Incubus as guilty-pleasure music.

The Fungus Among Us was the real banger. Science was also top notch. Started trending down after Make Yourself though IMO (still some good cuts on Morning View, but arguably lost much of if their pizazz after that...)

I HATE incubus. Hate them so much.
Da-Monkey-Man@reddit
What? They were so popular like every new band coming up was trying to sound like them for a few years.
lurk3141592653589793@reddit
Definitely not. They put on a hell of a show too. Still listen to a few songs off that album on the regular.

I swear, seeing that album cover, it made me hear that in my brain. And now that I’m middle-aged, I actually understand it. 😭😂
poopy_poophead@reddit
I mean, they had a couple of platinum albums I think... Pretty sure lots of people liked them...
I got three or four of their albums on this very phone right now.
Prior-Subject6077@reddit
Still my favorite band.
unclestink@reddit
They have 3 albums that I absolutely love and nothing else I want to hear

Not after SCIENCE. It got real soft-nu-metal.
troisarbres@reddit
GenX here... I saw them live and it was an incredible show!
drstovetop@reddit
I loved the first album. I was young and moody. It was a good blend of motivation, answer, and chill. The albums that followed were too stonerish for me and I didn't like them. The later albums have appealed to me more as I've gotten older.
lnc_5103@reddit
We got to see them perform a couple of years ago. It was a phenomenal show!
MommaOfManyCats@reddit
My boyfriend is still jealous I saw them in concert! He was a fan from the first album, but I was definitely a latecomer.

Incubus remains one of my favorite bands to this day. I hear songs by them almost daily on my Pandora “favorites” channel.

I saw Incubus in concert in 1998. They opened for Korn I loved them. But as others said science was awesome then they kinda fell over or sold out or something.
dbwedgie@reddit
You definitely weren't the only one. lol I saw them live in Dallas, and the pit was crazy. I'm retrospect out doesn't even seem like they were the kind of band for a mosh pit, but it was a different time.

You were the only one into this band. That's why they've sold 23 million records world wide.

PeachAggravating4680@reddit
Yes but Make Yourself was the turning point
foozebox@reddit
I should’ve been their head of marketing in college. Got so many people into them but that was SCIENCE era and I dug their FNM influence. When they became super mainstream I didn’t know how to feel.
Lones0meCrowdedEast@reddit
Yes. Unfortunately, you are the only one who was really into the band. The fact that this album was only 200k away from going triple platinum is unrelated.

Legitimate-Special36@reddit
You're definiltey not alone. I was suuuuper into them from '99-'03. Saw them three times. Waited such a long time for ACLOTM and was sorely disappointed. My fandom just faded after that. I still go back to the first 4 records occasionally, though, because they're all no skips.

ElayneGriffithAuthor@reddit
Omg Hoobastank! I forgot about them until just now 🤯 Loved Incubus in HS. Saw them twice in college era. Still listen to my fav album Morning View when I need to float down the nostalgia river. YaBoyTarkus@reddit
I wasn't, but ALL Of my friends were. So much so that for years, if there was any kind of gathering, Incubus became the default soundtrack. I wasn't really into them at first, but everyone insisting on them for years made me unable to even tolerate the band.
NindieNation@reddit
I went to a 311 concert in a parking lot in Columbus in... I think 99, and Incubus opened for them. It was all Make Yourself and older, so I got to hear a ton of Fungus and almost all of SCIENCE. I remember them being like "gonna slow things down for a minute, we're hearing this song is starting to take off, let us know if you have heard it" and the crowd was silent while they played Drive and everyone used it as a chance to light a joint.
Either way, Incubus is a top 5 band for me, probably top 3, and Morning View is my favorite album of any artist. I've played guitar most of my life and when graduating college, bought the same Telecaster that Mike uses. Mine specifically sounds exactly like A Crow Left of the Murder.
Love Incubus, dude. Great pull.
blancasanrio@reddit
I saw Incubus and Sugar Ray open for 311 in Morgantown, West Virginia in '97.
HeyCarpy@reddit
I saw Incubus open for Primus in a club in Toronto, that shit was excellent.
NindieNation@reddit
That is an INSANE combination that just feels impossible but I remember exactly when that could have happened lol.
So Sugar Ray had Fly and a bunch of pseudo metal/punk songs because it would have been before 14:59.... right?
blancasanrio@reddit
Yeah, it looks like 14:59 came out in '99
Ok_Highlight3926@reddit
I found a setlist. The website is terrible but it’s got the info https://www.concertarchives.org/concerts/311-incubus--2
Ok_Highlight3926@reddit
I was at that Columbus show. It was on a blacktop slab. I got lifted off my feet and nearly crushed during incubus’s first song. Sounds scary, but it was fucking awesome. Those were two of my favorite bands at the time. A bunch of my friends who I was in a 311 cover band with all came to the show too. We were so fired up. Tremendous concert from both bands on a very hot day. Nick Hexum climbed the scaffold and did an insane stage dive. Great show I’ll never forget.
Fast forward a few years later, incubus was super popular. I went to see them again at an arena show. The energy was not the same. In a bad way. During pardon me, the light cut out and when they came back on, Brandon had removed his shirt. This was part of the show. I was no longer the target audience for Incubus. Haha. They sounded great, but I haven’t had any interest in them since. I still throw the first three albums on all the time though. SCIENCE is my favorite.
NindieNation@reddit
Holy shit dude! Was that show a year later the Honda Civic tour in Columbus at one of the indoor arenas (I forget what it was called at the time)?
Because me and my 311 buddies went to the parking lot show, then after they blew up (and I think released 'wish you were here' but maybe not the full album yet), the next show was in the big venue.
Were we at both of the same shows? Either way - yeah that 311/Incubus show was an all-time great. 311 was probably at the height of their popularity (unless you count the Love Song era), and Incubus was at the peak of their pre-fame era.
Funny you mention getting crushed... I crowd surfed and when you get to the front when the security guard grabs you, I somehow rolled over and was unintentionally slammed against the rail - I have a little dent or chip on my right bottom rib that you can totally feel to this day.
What a fun coincidence, internet stranger :)
Ok_Highlight3926@reddit
I was not at both shows. The second one that was an arena show was in Cincinnati. I’ve seen 311 around 30 times and that was one of the most memorable. Great times.
I have been to a few bands and wrestling shows at that indoor Honda Civic center or whatever it was called back then. It was a decent place.
NindieNation@reddit
Also @Ok_Highlight3926 Might I suggest checking out "if Not Now, When?". I think it is an underrated masterpiece.
The songs don't sound like Morning View, but the overall vibe or maybe the perspective of how they wrote the album feels so similar to me.
fluffhead711@reddit
right there with you dude. they’re a top 5, maybe 3, most influential band for me in my music-loving career. that defined a big chunk of my youth, and as a wannabe guitar player, i was obsessed with Mike’s playing back then. SCIENCE > Make Yourself > Morning View is a very strong 3 album run, all quite different, and all 3 i still listen to this day. they’re very nostalgic for me and i love when i find someone irl that loved/loves them too.
NindieNation@reddit
Hell yeah. I was already a guitarist and becoming a drummer during that time, all my drumline friends were obsessed with Chad Sexton since he was in drumline before 311, and that same group fell in love with Jose - how he sat sideways on the stage, all his syncopation and just being a technical marvel behind the kit.
Also a really cool time to get into the band, you know? If you found Incubus during Make Yourself, you had a slightly pop/nu metal-ish album with much heavier stuff behind it... Then Morning View released and that 3 album run just outlines a band that somehow practically changed genres twice in a row, nailing it with each effort.
I was the singer/guitarist in a HS rock band, and senior year of HS (02) we played Summer Romance and You Will Be A Hot Dancer in the school talent show (which in hindsight is so wildly inappropriate lol). I passed on playing guitar during that show so I could put a guitar strap on a djembe and play that while singing like Brandon did :)
fluffhead711@reddit
haha i bought a djembe from a Guitar World just because of Incubus. i was also obsessed with Brandon’s tattoos and his art. i found that band at the perfect time in my life.
Effective_Cress_3190@reddit
I spent so long trying to emulate the effect in Glass
NYGiants181@reddit
Top 3?
NindieNation@reddit
Top 3 favorite bands? Alongside Get Up Kids and Jimmy Eat World.
FalconGK81@reddit
I bet that was a banger concert. 311 and Incubus have great synergy in style and energy. I imagine that the color of said energy is amber.
HeyCarpy@reddit
Saw them open for Primus at a club show before they hit it big, and I thought they were awesome. Their radio stuff after they got big, not so great but that's just me.
Nuthin-Fancy59@reddit
Saw them in Cincinnati a few years ago. Fucking awesome live!
adjust_your_set@reddit
Incubus has fantastic songwriting. I loved everything up through A Crow Left of the Murder then just kinda moved on and stopped listening to anything newer.
Light Grenades has some killer songs though now that I look it up. Dig and Anna Molly I like.
DaughterisaDancer@reddit
I liked this album by them.
Sorry_Challenge_4179@reddit
Fungus among us and science. Are the best
ahawk99@reddit
Essentially telling the Pope to stay in his own lane is just mind boggling.
xXsaberstrikeXx@reddit
Still am! My wife and I take our four kids to every Incubus concert that comes to our area. The whole family loves them ❤️
BlueBomber13@reddit
They're still one of my favorite bands. Those 3 albums are overall their best, but ACLOTM and Light Grenades are really good. If Not Now, When? and 8 aren't my favorites overall, but they have some really good songs on there.
Anarchy_Amber@reddit
WY proud! 💗💪❤️
kryptosis9@reddit
That entire album still burns my fingers... Every track was fire.

What the fuck is this post?
"Hey everyone who was a teenager when this band was selling out arenas, did anyone else like them or was I the only one?"
poneiras@reddit
I loved Fungus Amongus, Enjoy Incubus, and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. I really didn't give Make Yourself (or anything after) a fair shake because it sounded so much more mainstream. I guess that was me at my most hipster.
The_Secret_Skittle@reddit
Just saw them in concert last year. They are still amazing. Their bass player is this gorgeous badass woman too now.
OrigamiTongue@reddit

mnky_pnts@reddit
To this day, I still tell people the Morning View tour was the best concert I've ever been to.
lateral_moves@reddit
Yes. It was just you. They sold 1 copy of that album.
Figgggs@reddit
One of the band members was an old roommate's cousin, so we got free tickets and backstage passes to a stadium show. We hung out for a few minutes and almost had a Halo tournament with them.
OhTheHueManatee@reddit
I love that band one of my favorites to listen to underwater especially Aqueous Transmission and The Warmth.
One time my friend was on the couch with his girlfriend at the time and Drive came on. He said "I really like this song" so I put it on repeat without saying anything. I think it played like 7 times before they noticed. Bringing up that song became a running joke between us.
With the same friend I stated doing a thing where if I was at a concert I'd call him, away from the audience, and say "I can't talk right now. I'm at a concert." then hang up. This became another running joke.
After years of this nonsense I got to see Incubus live and called him during Drive. I wish I had recorded his reaction to it cause I found it hilarious.
dj_swizzle@reddit
This album in particular will always remind me of being 16 and free, driving around in my civic in the summertime. I still jam to it every once in awhile!
thatsagoodpint@reddit

Deut008@reddit
You were not. Went to their concert last summer. They played morning view in its entirety. One of the best concerts I’ve been to. Took me back to my younger years.
Ackbert1230@reddit
I just saw them a few months back for the Morning View 20th anniversary tour and the whole arena screaming Megalomaniac at the top of their lungs was peak. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps still.
Donmiggy143@reddit

No-Purchase-5930@reddit
Probably a faster count of those who weren't fans. Incubus is a common channel in my Spotify.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
S.C.I.E.N.C.E. was great. They got a lot more commercial like all the other nu metal bands.
Ralliman320@reddit
Can't say I've ever heard Incubus referred to as nü metal.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
I mean, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Fungus Among Us were definitely more hard rock/metal/whatever the fuck you want to call it. They were in that scene. Playing shows with other bands of that time that were considered "nu metal."
Ralliman320@reddit
That's fair, the first time I saw them live, they were the opener for Korn; that said, the first time I saw Korn they opened (along with Marilyn Manson) for Danzig.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
Yea it was an amazing time for music. Constant genre bending created so many unique bands.
Allaplgy@reddit
Like someone else said, never considered them to be nu-metal. But yeah, I'm with you. I'm an Incubus hipster. Saw them several times at smaller clubs in SF in the Science era, but the they got their big break and turned from this unique, funky, raw thing into polished college radio soft rock.
p4rc0pr3s1s@reddit
Well they didn't end up being nu metal, but they were definitely more aggressive on their first couple albums, something more akin to SNOT rather than the ballads and more pop oriented stuff of their later albums.
Allaplgy@reddit
I guess that's what I liked about them. It was unique. Hard to place in a specific genre. More like Primus than Korn or Linkin Park or whatever. It was funky, but not funk. Hard, but not metal. Melodic, but not poppy.
Then yeah, it just turned into ballads and blandness.
whoisbill@reddit
This album slaps. Not a huge fan of their later stuff. But science is an all time great.
NorthernLolal@reddit
They were much more funky originally!
PsquaredLR@reddit
Still love them. Make Yourself and Morning View are two of the best back to back albums ever by any band.

Yes, you are the sole reason that Incubus sold over 23 million records worldwide as of October 2022. Congrats.
Dezvinci@reddit
I wasn't, I was actually into their competition "hoobastank" which is a terrible name lol
Fit-Recognition-2527@reddit
I saw hoobastank open for incubus in 2002.
thehakujin82@reddit
I saw the same, maybe a year later? But at first everyone was confused because they almost kinda sorta looked like Incubus for a second. Like “is there no opener tonight?”
Within about 1/3 of Crawling In the Dark, they had everyone in the palms of their hands. They wouldn’t come offstage as their set ended, and the guys from Incubus came out and were taking their equipment away one-by-one, until the drummer was left with like a high hat and his kick drum.
Pretty fun bit.
Fit-Recognition-2527@reddit
After their set, the drummer threw his cover in the audience and I caught it along with like 3 other people. It ended up shredded. Just a random memory from the show.
sctrlk@reddit
I loved both Incubus and Hoobastank 😅

djsynrgy@reddit
I liked S.C.I.E.N.C.E. (and to some extent Fungus Amongus.)
I loved Make Yourself when it came out, but I inadvertently burnt myself out on it within a year or so, and I never really followed up on the band after that; around the same time I was kind of eschewing rock-ish in favor of electronic-ish.

Incubus is great. Was a really huge fan and was lucky enough to see them in concert! I always found it a shame, their best music is their non-radio stuff.
craighaney172@reddit
You say this in the past tense. I still love them. Although the morning view remaster was a let down. I bought it on vinyl and Brandon’s voice just isn’t the sand.

Not by a long shot. They were huge in the 90s. Still love them. I’m

I saw these guys open for 311 before they hit it big. I thought they were excellent; it was like trip-hop jammin' out with DJs, when that was still somewhat innovative. Then they took off and I saw them a few times at festivals and they weren't nearly as cool anymore.
They were cool at one point though, IMO.

Vegetable_Phone_6860@reddit
I remember reading the liner notes from make yourself and realizing that Incubus used all the same brand instruments as 311…Orange County drums, Warwick bass, Paul Reed Smith, guitars Shure microphones. Even the turntables were Technic and they used Ernie ball strings and Mesa boogie amplifiers. I thought this was very strange when I was in high school especially being a fan of both bands. Any thoughts?

I missed the last question because I said the wrong answer then yelled the correct. I was so mad at myself and still am to this day.

Fungus Amongus is an incomprehensible mess.

So, one of my favorite concert stories. My buddy and I went to see Incubus for the A Crow Left Of The Murder tour when I was living in Indianapolis. The night of the concert there was an absolutely hellacious thunderstorm, gusting winds, lightning bolts, the whole nine yards. The concert absolutely should have been canceled lol.
About halfway through the set, they are in the middle of Priceless and just as he hits the line, "water water water everywhere and every chance to sink" , a massive lightning bolt lights up the sky, the thunder clap was right on top of us, the power blanked out, and everybody went ape shit. The folks out on the lawn were absolutely soaked, and everybody had a blast.
Definitely the Best concert experience I ever had, and I hadn't even discovered drugs yet!

no_clever_name_yet@reddit
So last summer I went to their "Morning View and the Hits" concert. It was fine. An enjoyable time. But not mind blowing or anything. I. Felt. OLD.
My husband (he's a 75 baby) and I were walking back to the car and this young girl leans out of her vehicle's window while they were in the exit line and says "WASN'T THAT THE BEST CONCERT EVER?!?!" and before I could stop myself I said "not really". I then really quickly corrected with "but we're old and we've been to LOTS of concerts!" I didn't want to tell her that it's not even the best Incubus concert I'd ever been to. THAT was the FIRST Morning View concert I went to in 2002. Before she was born.
By the way? Sitting here typing this in an Incubus sweatshirt.

Low_Recognition_5602@reddit
What do you mean "was"?
rsauer1208@reddit
Still listen to this day. I always go back to Morning view and love SCIENCE. My favorite tracks are the ones with Brandon and Mike just going off, like New Skin, Here in my Room, Consequence, Aquarius Transmission. The newer stuff with Nicole Row really reminds me of Dirk's time with the band.
HappyKadaver666@reddit
I hate that band
AmputeeHandModel@reddit
Uhh no, they were pretty popular. I don't like them but they were out there.
guaztronaut@reddit
I can play this on guitar in it's entirety, so maybe just a little.
ScaryTransbian84@reddit
I wrote a paper on this album in college comparing it to the works of Emerson/Thoreau. The lyrics are so good and the music is excellent. 11/10
Emergency_Rush_4168@reddit
Im sorry but you were. Absolutely no one else ever listened to them. They put out serval albums that never sold a copy except to you.
Maleficent_Egg7436@reddit
So much so that I stretched my ears just like Brandon. I was the first person in my High school to have plugs in 2001. Still have them too, I can’t imagine not having them now.
Charming_Basil3761@reddit
Absolutely
OwnPlatypus4129@reddit
Same
cepukon@reddit
Oh yeah, they were huge. Drive is still one of the best songs ever made.
superficialdynamite@reddit
Used it as my senior quote in high school
RobleyTheron@reddit
Came here to say the same. Drive is one of my top 3 all time songs.
munchonsomegrindage@reddit
Was? I'm still into them lol
TrustAffectionate966@reddit
Never heard of ‘em.
🧉🦄
harlembornnbred@reddit
Still a huge fan. Actually listened to them yesterday and they're frequently my most played artist.
Incredible live as well
RustedMauss@reddit
Oh, Incubus was the JAM around 2001-5. Saw them live with Hoobastank in 2002. Got my first ticket speeding on the way to the concert.
megaspooky@reddit
I got into them after I saw the video for take me to your leader back in like 1996. Saw them live with hed pe. I liked their earlier stuff but they fell off when they blew up, science is an all time favorite album. Still a good band just not for me.
yamahowzer@reddit
I was but my ex was waaay into them so I can't really enjoy listening to them anymore.
AndrewInMN@reddit
I wasn’t until I saw them at Ozzfest one year touring this album and they were fantastic live. I didn’t really stay a long term fan but I listened to the shit out of Make Yourself and will still occasionally listen to it. I nearly bought tickets to see them in early 2020 then something happened that caused concerts to be cancelled/postponed.
CookieNo310@reddit
They were great until Alex left. No disrespect to ben kenney or whoever their bass player is now. But incubus ain't shit but a pop band without him.
Different_Incident65@reddit
I think I was the only one that REALLY wasnt into that band
drewcash83@reddit
Top 3 band for me. Listen to them weekly. The morning view tour was my first concert.
akr291@reddit
They’re my favorite band. I’ve seen them I think 11 times live. I have lyrics from Here in my Room tattooed on my arm. Sooooo, no 😂😂😂
lost0125@reddit
They were peak amazing late 90s early 2000s. Then were god awful. There was no middle ground.
LineImpossible3958@reddit
Incubus was really popular, you weren’t the only one.
Grinzy@reddit
I saw them live three times and it was great.
Nfgzebrahed@reddit
Youre asking if Incubus had a following at all? GTFO
richardsdar@reddit
Listened to this album on repeat. I got my teenage daughters into the album, too. Now they love it.
ColoOddball@reddit
The acoustic version of Pardon Me still one of the greatest tracks ever
snot3353@reddit
SCIENCE is legit one of the greatest albums ever. I cat believe it gets so little love.
Ultimatesims@reddit
They were my first concert in Jackson, MS.
Financial-Yak-4172@reddit
Bat your eyes, girl, be otherworldly
FreshStartFeelsGood@reddit
Why would you think that? Incubus was huge. They still play some good sized shows.
pious-walrus@reddit
Still am! Waiting on new release
BossRoss84@reddit
Top 3 bands: Sublime, Nirvana, Incubus. Not necessarily in that order.
AnElectricalMeatbag@reddit
I was obsessed.
the_kid1234@reddit
Listening to Incubus I can’t help but think why the hell were they compelled to add that dumb dj scratching? They are really good pop rock songs and that djing is so dated “of 2000”. Like when you hear all that glossy 80s production and synths.
Traditional_Ad_1547@reddit
I get various songs from SCIENCE stuck in my head often. Absolutely loved early incubus, and they were incredible live.
Guderikke@reddit
Still am, incubus and Foo Fighters are top on my radio to this day.
22nd_century@reddit
My favourite band in the world for a good three years.
flytingnotfighting@reddit
I loved megalomania so much
BeardedK@reddit
So sorry, but I must apologize as I’m about to spontaneously combust.
WorkingClassWarrior@reddit
You and millions of others. Hardly a hot take
Dude_1980@reddit
Never got into them, but I saw them at Ozzfest tripping on acid and it was one of the best sets of the entire show.
Future_Prompt1243@reddit
Yes you were the only one into the chart-topping, platinum-selling band known as incubus.
VibrantViolet@reddit
I saw them live in 2002, right up front in the pit. I remember Coca Cola was at the venue outside after the show giving people free 20 ouncers of Vanilla Coke (it was new at the time) and they gave me like 5 of them because I said I loved Vanilla Coke lol. Then, we went around to the back of the venue to try and meet Incubus, but they were doing a VIP thing so the opener (Phantom Planet) came out and gave us autographs. It was such a fun night!
Oh, and at that same show some dude kept trying to shove my sister around to take her spot up front, and he kept groping us by "accident", so I "accidentally" kneed him in his crotch.
Chemical_Basket357@reddit
Oh no, it was you and like two others.
donut-is-appalled@reddit
Right there with you, pal
GearJunkie82@reddit
I listened to the Morning View album a lot in college. Love Incubus.
LLcoolDZ@reddit
Still listen to them. Regret not seeing them live back in the day.
Senior-Design-7220@reddit
Great band. The best live concert I’ve ever been to.
Darkseid210@reddit
Their mtv unplugged has got to be one of the best live acoustic performances I've heard in my life! I remember the first time I heard it I got emotional it was overwhelming
taita2004@reddit
I saw them on tour with Deftones shortly after Make Yourself cane out. It was the first time I had ever seen them live...I was surprised by how rowdy the crowd was for them...even moreso than for Deftones.
Ewe_Search@reddit
My favorite band.
Advanced_Bluebird925@reddit
Still am, love them live!!!
carradio81@reddit
Loved Incubus! Also Brandon Boyd was/is perfection. Science was my favorite album but the chiller vibe to Make Yourself also hit the spot.
PartyFancy3634@reddit
I still jam them regularly
ravage214@reddit
I have a Blu Ray of them at the Red Rocks great concert!
anxiousnl@reddit
There was a period where I absolutely loved them then it's like a switch flipped in my brain and suddenly I couldn't stand them. Maybe their newer stuff colored the way I heard the older stuff? Idk, had a lot of fun with them though for a while.
Acceptable-Fold-3192@reddit
Liked Enjoy and Science. This album was the start of me not liking them.
bigfancydelta@reddit
I knew of them because of radio play, but they became a huge part of my music world in September of '00 when one of my best friends was killed by a drunk driver. He was very into Incubus and was trying to get me more into them every time we were together. His parents and sisters latched onto Incubus, and they always seemed to be playing or in the mix when I was around. Make Yourself, Morning View, A Crow left the Murder, and Light Grenades are great albums! Every time an Incubus song comes on the radio, I think of my friend, and I smile. Love ya Chad, miss ya brother.
brispence@reddit
"Stellar" is a fucking incredible late 90's banger.
cuteness_vacation@reddit
I still listen to this album. A lot.
MyVoiceIsElevating@reddit
Of course not! I guzzled SCIENCE. Was definitely my #1 band for a couple years.
I didn’t follow them after Crow Left of the Murder though.
x7leafcloverx@reddit
Incubus has been my favorite band since Make Yourself came out! Really the whole reason I got into music in general and why I’ve been singing in bands for 22 years!
damegloria@reddit
Omg really!!!
nola_mike@reddit
You mean the multi platinum selling world famous band Incubus?
Yeah, you were the only one who was really into them.
I'm kidding, no you weren't the only one. Most of my high school was jamming this record and Morning View.
damegloria@reddit
Were you the only person into this very popular band?
Yes. Just you.
MrBobSaget@reddit
Fungus Amongus
Krakledom@reddit
Science is a BANGER. Hell, I generally include it my Top 10 favorites of the decade. Make Yourself isn’t too shabby either.
Note I said favorites and not best.
ballen1002@reddit
I liked them, which was fortunate because my college roommate played this album at least twice a day for an entire semester.
MartyFreeze@reddit
A decade ago, I never thought I would be
At 23, on the verge of spontaneous combustion, woe is me!
In '99, I was 22 and reeling from the breakup of my first serious relationship. That lyric hit so hard then, and now I find it funny and sad how completely powerless I felt. Looking back at that time, I just want to tell my past self, "Buck up, dude. This is NOTHING compared to what comes later."
Smitch250@reddit
Huh? We all were they were one of the most popular bands of our time. You aren’t coming down with early onset dementia are you?
ShortBrownAndUgly@reddit
Wasn’t into them myself but yeah they were ultra popular
fridder@reddit
Brandon Boyd is one of the top rock vocalists in my opinion
metmerc@reddit
I first heard them in 1997 with Fungus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E and saw them play at a small club when Brandon still had dreadlocks.
My band covers Anna Molly and we're talking about adding A Certain Shade of Green. That one asks a lot of our bass player.
nipslippinjizzsippin@reddit
No you were not the only one into the massively popular globally loved band... incubus
GelflingMama@reddit
Still one of my top three favorite bands!
BigBubbaMac@reddit
That CD basically lived in my CD player.
I was really disappointed in A Crow Left of the Murder.
Important_Sound_8718@reddit
Listen to them often. Vocals are just unreal
JGrimm420@reddit
I absolutely love the song The Warmth. I put it on every playlist I make.
antisocialnetwork77@reddit
Their first two records were fantastic.
Letsgogehls@reddit
You were the only one really into this band

Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty ringing clear
AffectionateFig5864@reddit
Great mash up of that here.
And I can’t help but ask myself how much I let the fear take the wheel and steer.
MajesticLow@reddit
I still have that on my current playlist - love Incubus
greenwhiteredblack@reddit
I still listen to this song a couple times a year randomly.
climate-tenerife@reddit
Great album, went to see them perform it in Brixton. They were one of those bands who made better music on stage than on the record.
thoughtfractals85@reddit
I got really into them unwillingly when this was the cd that got stuck in the cd player of my car for....years. They aren't bad. I liked a lot of their music.
iameveryoneelse@reddit
Was?
drdeeznuts420@reddit
The Turnstile of our generation.
Jarvicious@reddit
I bought this album in 99, listened to the shit out of it until my roommate broke the CD, then bought it again. This album taught me guitar. I can't upvote this enough.
zoey8068@reddit
Nope I love incubus, Mike Einziger is one of my favorite guitarists of all time.
floodums@reddit
I knew a lot of women that really liked incubus. I thought they sucked but now I get semi nostalgic when I hear their stupid so I have a couple songs on my playlist.
I really really really try very hard to fight the nostalgia bug some things like music are guilty pleasures.
Danbarber82@reddit
They were definitely a top girlfriend band. They do have some catchy songs. If I feel nostalgic from an Incubus song, it's more about taking me back to memories of a person or place associated with the music.
coci222@reddit
It always amazes me that that song is the second to last song on the album. I love Incubus, still listening to them these days
Captain-Save-ahoe@reddit
Fucking love them. “Talk shows on mute” is an awesome song
AntiRepresentation@reddit
They were extremely popular. Of course you weren't the only fan. What a stupid post.
TheMeticulousNinja@reddit
Still to this day my all-time favorite band. I’ve never heard a bad album from them, even when they switched to a more R&B influenced sound.
Wak3upHicks@reddit
Wasn't my jam and yet they were every other song on the radio
okay1BelieveYou@reddit
I used to listen to Aqueous Transmission on repeat while I slept.
Driglok@reddit
One of my best friends in high-school played this CD non-stop in their car. I went to visit them 20 years later. We get in the car and Pardon Me starts playing. I laughed "You never changed."
flojo2012@reddit
Fuck to the yeah incubus was a serious matter
AvenerVex356Bj@reddit
Well I only liked that 1 song
Thin-Atmosphere3166@reddit
That album / song came out my senior year of highschool and we had gotten cable for the first time so yeah. I remember seeing the video and the videos for the rest of the singles off that album and buying the CD and listening to it so many times *sigh to be that young again lol . Love Incubus , saw them at SeaHearNow in 2018 they are incredible live ❤️
Fancy_Yak2618@reddit
Every time I see them a giant weed cloud erupts from the crowd and it is glorious as the first time I saw them.
HostilePile@reddit
They are great band to see live!
Neonlikebjork@reddit
Saw them a few times live. Great shows and music!🎵
IshtarsBones@reddit
I’m right there with you. Loved their science, make yourself, morning view era of music.
Bubbleguts420@reddit
I wasn’t a huge fan but thought they were pretty good. Went to a concert (I go to a lot of shows) and thought they sounded great.
Heck of a live show.
caffeinatedscientist@reddit
This specific song got ruined in my 20s by a tenant who lived below me and would call his girlfriend and horribly play/sing this song almost nightly. But, I have seen them several times live. The Morning View tour they did with Coheed & Cambria was fantastic. I don’t listen to a lot of their catalog that came out after A Crow Left of the Murder, but many of their songs are on my alt faves playlist.
CBakIsMe@reddit
I loved this band growing up. Used to practice playing Drive on the guitar, and Dig is still on one of my work playlists.
EastTXJosh@reddit
I think I just missed them. Obviously, I know Pardo Me and a couple of their other big radio hits. They were one of those bands that if they came on the radio, I wouldn't change the dial, but I didn't go out and buy their music or go to their concerts. I remember some of my friends 3-4 years younger than me were really into Incubus. It was their favorite band.
GeminiLife@reddit
I still go and listen to Morning View and Light Grenades pretty regularly. (Along with other tunes)
oronder@reddit
Never my thing, but sure, lotsa kids were into them.
Emotional_Signal7883@reddit
"My roommate is a DJ and he says we can't practice in the garage unless we let him in the band."

I loved Incubus and still do. Seeing them live back then was one of the best shows I’ve seen.
IIFireMissionII@reddit
I saw them in a small bar in Japan around 02 or 03. It was awesome.
inabighat@reddit
That's an awesome track
JeffTS@reddit
Great album. I particularly liked The Warmth.
Impossible_Memory_85@reddit
I loved them but it just didn’t hold up. I don’t know if I heard them too much but now if they come on I’m like meh.
platypus_farmer42@reddit
Excellent album but I always felt like “Science” was slept on. A bit heavier than their mainstream stuff but really good
gooby1985@reddit
My wife and I still see them any time they roll through town.
derp-L@reddit
Definitely my favorite song about spontaneous human combustion.
ScotterMcJohnsonator@reddit
The tattoos of their cover art and lyrics on my arms tell you you're not alone friend

Fire acoustic version. Awesome to learn.

SirLoinsALot03@reddit
Incubus is an amazing band. I saw them on the 2nd stage at Ozzfest in 1998 with about 50 other people and they blew my mind. Been a fan ever since.
bskdevil99@reddit
Bro everyone was into Incubus. In SD, they sold out every show they played. I saw them twice, they were amazing. Pardon me before I burst...
JeffBeckwasthebest@reddit
Awesome band and awesome song 👍 Everyone should know and listen to this !!! I still do.
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
That song was always played within an hour after the Stern show ended. They were just overplayed, and deserve their fair shot from me one day.
