Is china electric scooter a budget friendly option?

Yesterday I visited a scooter shop to find a China electric scooter for my nephew’s school commute. I wanted something small and reliable. But when I checked the scooters I felt disappointed. Some looked fragile and some batteries seemed weak. I could not decide which one to pick.
I visited another store. Some scooters were strong but expensive. Some looked simple but were fragile. Some seemed perfect but had small wheels. I remembered buying a scooter last month that stopped working after few days. That made me hesitate even more.
To check more variety and options while scrolling many online marketplaces including alibaba I found many China electric scooters. Some had strong motors and big batteries. Some were simple and cheap. Some had new colors and styles. Seeing all these options made me excited but also confused.
Now I am thinking should I buy this China electric scooter online for variety or check a store to feel the quality first? What would you do if you were in my place?

What company did you get your scooter from last month? Honestly, I think you should go for a known brand rather than just picking up any piece from the shop. I say this because the brand would have replacement parts, customer support and fellow buyers who can give you reviews and tips.
My neighbor's kid has Hiboy Max Pro. Decent for a newbie but not for me. I for myself though would get a heavier one. I am big man so TItan pro maybe.

Many products may be made in China, but higher quality products tend to be more expensive. I can help you select products from China.

Went shopping for something at various stores ,couldn’t decide , when suddenly I remembered buying a similar thing last month! Short term memory loss sucks! Sorry that’s happening to you!

I guess my question is once you've spent $500 how will you repair it? Some of these things are impossible to get parts for so ask the store if they do repairs and about the warranty.
We have two ebikes - one DIY, one I bought ought - and I chose based on how easily I could get parts. Both use very common commodity ebike parts, nothing proprietary.
Also scooters - be sure your relative wears a helmet. Heard a horror story recently about a rider w/o a helmet.

Alibaba/Temu… roll of the dice.
There’s a reason some products are cheap while others are expensive. Longevity is one of them.
If you want to get the most for your money, you need to learn what you’re actually buying. Power, battery, motor(s), brakes, suspension, weather sealing, build quality… then you can decide if something is underpowered or inadequate for your needs.
