Episode 1x7 Lonely Among Us: Did Picard really want to go?

I always find it frustrating that when Picard is beamed back on board, he has no memory of being merged with the "pure energy" life form. But when he spoke with its voice, he said things like "it elates us" that they would return to the energy cloud together, and implied that Picard was totally on board with this idea. What do you think: did Picard really want to join the entity as pure energy, floating free in space? Or was the entity just trying to get home?
Also, RIP Assistant Chief Engineer Lieutenant Singh.

I always assumed the entity was just trying to get home. Picard's consciousness was pushed into the background and had no awareness of what he was saying or doing.

So the entity was just lying? How can this be?!?
I like to imagine that the Picard actually wanted to do it, but given his reaction to other adventure opportunities he's given, I suppose it doesn't really fit.

I don't remember the episode so I might be way off but it could be like a Tuvix or Curzon/Odo thing where their personalities merged and became something new. So Captain Picard just as himself wouldn't want to go, but the combination of the two of them did.

That's fair.

The entity was lying, fighting, struggling to get back. It got pissed when Crusher and Riker confronted it in the ready room.

The first time we witnessed Captain Picard's epic gaslighting abilities.
"I consider it equally possible that the two of you, and Counsellor Troi, are overworked."
