I thought you created that subreddit for containment and less input from others which you described in a quite colourful manner.

its for an ideologically classic-liberal libertarian prespective on linux
for example the most radical libertarians will entirely oppose intellectual property, not just from corporations imposing patents and copyright, but also including the "copyleft" licenses
the classic liberals and libertarians will also be opposed to discriminatory policies on distros or tech companies, which are usually known as "DEI policies", as treating people equally is a core tenant of classic liberalism
Marthurio@reddit
I much prefer equity over equality as every individual is different. Equality regardless of an individual's starting point is in fact discrimination. Everyone needs some...what's the word... Facilitation? This is where those DEI policies come into play. They're not meant to sour people's lives, but one must consider the fact that not everyone has the same abilities, but can accomplish much if given the opportunity.
I don't think I like classic liberalism.

yeah thats fair, i understand your point of view but i disagree, as a race-based collectivist "revenge" on people can be an extremelly cruel way to punish people who had nothing to do with the injustices of yesteryear, it just doesnt seem fair to me. When it comes to hiring practices and education, it should simply be about "whos best for the job" or "whos good at this class". If you put racial or gender quotas thats just inherently unfair
Also the idea of "to each according to his needs" creates a very toxic incentive in making people seem less abled than they really are, since the more well-off or abled-bodied they seem to be, the less they get, and if anything it will lead to them being punished more.
The effects of "affirmative action" type policies and "soft on crime" policies have been pretty awful afaik, theres a book called "Losing Ground" that looks into it, heres a free sample

If your view is based on inclusion being some sort of revenge enactment we likely won't get anywhere.
Equity before quality. Everyone deserves a chance according to their needs. No one has a background equal to anyone else's.
amogusdevilman@reddit (OP)
everyone deserves a chance on equal footing. a "chance", not a guaranteed position just because they're a protected group. You dont get to put a failed pilot on an airplane just because hes from a "disadvantaged" group, thats not only unfair to the actual good pilots, but it also endangers the people on the plane, and worsens the entire fabric of society in general
Marthurio@reddit
That's a strawman though because at no point has anyone claimed that this is a good idea, nor wanted inclusion to be handled in the manner you present.
You're discussing the topic in an unfair manner by constructing such obvious logical fallacies. No one wants to be flown by an incompetent pilot, or operated on by an unqualified surgeon. Presenting DEI as a road to such scenarios pollutes the entire discussion and is just wrong. It enhances polarization which helps absolutely no one but those most powerful.
Opportunity does not equal guarantee, so arguing against the claim that it is is also just yelling into the wind.
amogusdevilman@reddit (OP)
of course no one wants to, but the DEI policies lead to stuff like that, thats my point. DEI is a road to such scenarios
qualified people should be rated based on their merits and capacities, not in their color of their skin or their gender. In fact, rating them based on their skin color or their gender would be extremelly racist and sexist

Another link, no news. Guess this starts to be boring. Is freedos also required to ask for your age?
CardOk755@reddit
I'm deeply interested in how this will be implemented in z/os.
codeasm@reddit
Now you mention this. Probably a per user field in cobol? Ugh java... Intresting indeed
CardOk755@reddit
And, for a machine being run by your bank, handling the accounts of hundreds of thousands or millions of people, who's age will be verified?
codeasm@reddit
Its per user, or should be. So no underage users at all.
ronaldtrip@reddit
The way laws work, the answer should be yes.
codeasm@reddit
Maybe we can use it for msdos6 too. Age verification in windows 3.11
ronaldtrip@reddit
Of course this legal "solution" is stupid and nothing more than CYA for large internet companies. My guess is that historic OSes will not be covered.
With the way things are going, it will probably mean that e.g. Windows 3.11 will be queried for an age signal and lacking it, the website or "app store" automatically assumes < 13. Since < 13 is the most restricted category, it will probably mean that only sesamestreet.org will load.
codeasm@reddit
Social media wont work probably, the true real internet will continue to function without age restriction nor checking. The whole idea toncheck if someone is the right age is wrong, parents and educators need to be in controll of the internet accasible device. This whole situation is stupid.
This will only give everyone a police state controlled smart device. Unless you vallue your freedom. The USA is a great example how companies are free and the peollple are the product. Glad im not in the us. Sadly Europe loves these ideas, and i hope germany, and especially the privacy groups fight this. Meta is to blame
amogusdevilman@reddit (OP)
the link is the news, they're pushing this on a national level, the text of the bill is not public yet though
MatchingTurret@reddit
The news isn't that new anymore. This has been posted multiple times already.
amogusdevilman@reddit (OP)
damnit, im a day late
codeasm@reddit
Hope it fails for yall. And reworded in such a way that social media platforms still are responsible.
