Any ideas for a stag do?

Hi all,
Basic question but feeling a bit stumped even after many google searches so looking for experiential advice.
Looking in Europe. Been on a few stags in Germany (Berlin, Munich) and thought they were brilliant. Likely going to be on this specific stag do around September 2027.
Ideally, looking for somewhere with decent nightlife/bars, good history/sights to see and isn’t too hot (I’m a sweater…).
Would also like to incorporate a football game into the weekend too.
Any suggestions welcome.

Go to Riga. It's amazing, and still cheap!
AwkwardTie9427@reddit
Loads of singers sites abroad. Amsterdam, go for it mate

I'd go for Dusseldorf or Cologne. Each having great nightlife and local beer. Cologne slightly better city on it's own terms imo, but Dusseldorf great for footy as there are loads of teams around. Bonus that you can use your footy ticket on the public transport too.
dannyscun@reddit
NRW for Football is absolutely top tier. Depending how the fixtures fall you can get three games in on a weekend.
The Altstadt in Dusseldorf is known as "the longest bar in the world" too - really great weekend there. And it's dirt cheap to get there

Bucharest. Cheap flights, cheap hotels, Cheap beer, cheap footie, decent weather, interesting history. It’s what Prague was in the 90s and Riga in the early 00s
jasmith2706@reddit
Prague, Krakow, Budapest as the mainstream places you can’t really go wrong, all great cities
rice_fish_and_eggs@reddit
Budapest is a decent all rounder and it's dirt cheap compared to most of Europe.

Budapest is great for a stag. The ruin bars are a lot of fun.

There is (or at peast was when I went) a medieval themed restaurant that serves massive platters of meat and has occasional performances from fire eaters and belly dancers etc throughout the meal. Very stag!
OptionalQuality789@reddit
We fucking went there 😂 it was indeed platters of meat with belly dancing. Very strange but very fun!
Happily-Incorrect@reddit
The day before I had had goulash served in a bowl made of bread as my full evening meal. At this place I had one the same size as a starter (probably shouldn't have eaten the bowl) before being served a goose leg, steak, sausages, pork chops, chicken thighs and a banana. An exhausting meal, but a great stomach liner!
OptionalQuality789@reddit
We ordered way too much food, because how can you really estimate how many platters you need? The guy wasn’t impressed at how little we ate and made us drink shots of Palinka.
simplytom_1@reddit
Funny how I see this as I'm off to Riga tomorrow morning for one
Pub golf, football, visiting sights etc. all good stuff but most important thing is just being with pals
Prestigious_Use_1305@reddit
Dusseldorf or Cologne probably fit your profile quite well. Both big cities with a bit of history and decent nightlife also have aboit 8 Bundiliga teams within about an hour so should be able to find a football fix as well.
yourefunny@reddit
Prague is great, lots of history and superb fun. Estonia is lovely and the women are gorgeous.
Other cities I have been that would be great. Budapest. Dubrovnik. Split. Barcelona.
Oktoberfest starts in September. Head to one of the smaller towns outside of Munich for a much better experience.
Loved Lisbon.
My stag was a ridiculous 10 day road trip through eastern Europe. Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro and Croatia. Loved all of those places.

Are we still opting for expense laden, loaded mag style, eurotrash drinking sprees as the best possible send off for married life? Thought those days were long gone.

Bore off

Said this above but different strokes for different folks.

Thankfully you're not involved so it's not an issue for you
Spadders87@reddit
Probably because its not your thing and thats ok. Plenty of us are more than happy to spend a bit of money to have a few nights out in europe with our mates to celebrate one of them getting married. If youre not aware, not everyone is the same and enjoys the same things.
MattWillGrant@reddit
Ok Deano.
MisterIndecisive@reddit
Prague and Barcelona are both great. Lots of different things to do and see, doesn't necessarily have to be just getting drunk - e.g. nice historical sites etc or just good parks and beach to chill
jollyspiffing@reddit
What do you actually want from a stag do? What do you actually enjoy doing with your mates?
You say good night life and good history and sights to see you can do both in a historic capital like Budapest but which part are you more excited for?
Theodoresdad@reddit (OP)
Obviously it will err towards the night life but it won’t be clubs. Like bars etc. Very keen on the football though.
jollyspiffing@reddit
I'd centre it on picking a match in that case. If the stag has a European team they support go there, if not get them to pick one. Go along to a home game on the Sat and then out into town.
Since you're miles ahead (Sept 2027) they have the time to get into that team a bit, start following their players etc. Bonus points if they pick a "lower tier" team.
NoFewSatan@reddit
Düsseldorf is good
DennisDunkdalk@reddit
Look up the K9 attack dog experience in Krakow. The stag basically puts on a protective suit and tries to get away from a ferocious attack dog. Top banter

Men are truly another breed. Let's celebrate our friends upcoming nuptials by having him chased by aggressive dogs! Lmaoooooo

Thanks for this, literally looking into this now for an upcoming stag. What a class idea

Prague. Cheap beer, incredible city.
Thank me later.

skets90@reddit
The plan is; get to the apartment, unpack, get some sleep and head out fresh tomorrow. First stop: The minoan palace of Knossos!
Commercial-Royal7086@reddit
Can see those fucking Greek ruins anywhere

When I was in Berlin, the day after the first night I was so rough I turned to seeing some sights for a few hours - rest assured, I was still drinking intermittently during this “down time”. 😅
asymmetricears@reddit
It is a bit cliche, but I went to a stag in Prague last year, and that was good fun. We didn't do much of the history stuff, but it's there should you want it. There's more than enough nightlife.
In September it shouldn't be too hot, and there are a few football teams so at least one should be playing at home. Sparta, Slavia, Dukla. We went to Dukla v Slavia on that stag.
clrthrn@reddit
Bruges. Ticks the awesome beer/bars plus history nicely. No football of note but you'll be up to your ears in 13% lager and moules frites so who cares.
Spadders87@reddit
Had a stag do in Prague a couple of years ago. The city is stunning, plenty of history (we went to the church the guys from Operation Anthropoid took their last stand in) ,theres two football teams (we watched sparta), night life is great, food is great, beer is great, accomodation and flights are relatively cheap. It was riddiculously hot though, we went in july and there was a heatwave, id imagine itd be a fair bit milder in sept.
Couldnt recommend it enough.
skets90@reddit
Heard great things about Prague
sharkkallis@reddit
Riga and Prague for being simultaneously loved and hated.

For mine I rented a 14 person lodge near cairngorms. 2 nights, stayed in the lodge on Friday night getting drunk. Next day did paintballing then got a minibus into inverness. Pretty decent.
Went to Dublin for another, and it was fun. Drinking, bubble football was fun (but sore after). It was fun, but bubble football we can do back home, the pub scene wasn't much different from UK ones and I wondered why we travelled all that distance for it. I wouldn't want to stay local but if you're going to go abroad, do something to make it worth it,
lordconcorde@reddit
I would recommend Porto. Shouldn't be too hot in September, there are a few streets with lots of bars where people spill onto the street (ie good for groups if you are worried about getting in), people are friendly.
We did a boat tour there with a free bar (there were about 20 of us) and was great fine.
Also can do port tasting!
Due_Figure6451@reddit
Go to Volksfest in Stuttgart. Organised a stag around it but did lots of other stuff too. Excellent event, Oktoberfest without as many tourists. Book tables inside the tents though if you can
Iwantedalbino@reddit
If you liked Berlin and Munich you’d probably enjoy Hamburg. Two football teams a go kart track and the Reeperbahn.
Rugby tours but Budapest is also great. We had fun in cologne also.
mrb2409@reddit
Hamburg is great fun. Highly recommend!
Whippywhipwhip@reddit
Prague would be my choice, great place for drinks and history. Cheap too.
Barcelona has a beach and nightlife but sketchy af at night with the migrants attacking drunks.
Bratislava is super safe, cheap and beautiful. Great drink there.
For a cheaper alternative I'd opt for Bucharest although not as clean as the others.
